26.

Adaline's mine remained in a fog as she could hear mumbling around her. Her eyes were unfocused and unwilling to move. She willed her limbs to move but was greeted with more frustration as her body was rebelling against her.

Her wolf whined painfully as she struggled over and over to move just her hand or even just a finger. Anything would do just to let them know she was still in there.

But soon the unrecognizable banter stopped and everything grew quiet, Adaline could still tell someone was in the room and by the scent she knew it was Griffin. His warm hand cradled her's as he began to talk.

At first his words were as muffled as all the others but soon they became more clear.

“Just come back to me.” His voice ringed so clearly in her head. Griffin's voice was heavy with anguish, it torn at her heart to hear him in pain.

With renewed vigor she willed her body to respond, she could feel her heart beginning to thump harder as she fought herself. One way or another she was going to make her presence known.

Kerra had brought several meals up to Griffin as he remain at her side. Three days had passed since the skirmish and Adaline had shown no signs of change. Though Griffin swore he had heard her heart rate begin to race over and over again in the past days, but still no sign of waking up.

Kerra had helped him clean her and change her clothes whenever she needed it. The doctor had come every day to start an IV and administer fluids to keep her hydrated until she awoke. But he still remained certain that Adaline would pull through this with a bit of time.

Time, the one thing that was constantly bearing down on Griffin as he watched the seconds tick away day after day. He missed Adaline so much. Her lively personality lit up his life and it was as if someone flicked a switch off.

“Anything I can get you, Griffin?” Kerra asked softly as she finished tucking Adaline back under the blankets.

“No, I'm fine.” Griffin's voice was gruff as he sat at the foot of the bed watching for a twitch or some form of movement.

“You haven't eaten in days. Every meal I bring up you haven't touched. Please let me bring you some food and you actually eat it.” Kerra pleaded with him as she rubbed her hand over the new baby bump forming under her shirt.

“Fine. I'll eat.” He didn't want to fight, the fight that was once in him was slowly draining with each passing day.

“I'll be back shortly.” She smiled politely as she made her way out of the room and down to the kitchen.
