20.

“When was he going to strike?”

“I don't know, he never told us an exact date. We only knew what were supposed to do for the day.” Nick answered as he watched his captors carefully.

“Why did they send one to my house to attack me and my family?” Connor asked calmly as he sat in a chair across from where Nick was chain up.

“Dean was never ordered to attack you. He was told to retrieve the girl. Jamison hoped to draw his son to him with her.”

“How does he know about Adaline?”

“He saw them in what I can only assume is a compromising position.” Nick blushed slightly at the thought of being caught by a parent. “Jamison wasn't sure of Griffin's allegiance so he figured either way the girl was just a way to get him to come to him.”

Connor sat there silent as the minutes slowly ticked by, no one spoke, all that could be heard was the deep breathing from all in the room. Something deep down told him that this young shift wasn't a danger to him. “You will remain here under our supervision until we decide what to do with you.” Giving no more clue into his plans, Connor rose from the chair and walked out nodding towards the guards as he left to secure the door once again.

“So?” Doyle asked once his father entered in his office.

“I doubt he is going to try anything. He seems awfully weak for a fighter so I think he was just supposed to be a distraction in the long run. But we are going to keep him here under our watch until we handle the rest of this situation.” Connor said as he slipped down into a chair in front of the desk.

“You look tired, Dad.”

“Yeah, I think I'm due a long vacation once this is settled.” Connor brushed his hand through his graying hair and sighed heavily.

“You can take all the time you need, Dad. You know you can trust me with the pack.” Doyle leaned forward resting his elbows on the desk. “So what do we do now?”

“Talk to Griffin.”

“We need to contact my son. Some how. Maybe we can explain Dean's presence was a big misunderstanding. That way we can get in the good graces of the pack.” Jamison was grasping at straws in an attempt to finagle his way into the werewolf pack.

“You're mental.” Adam tisked as he cleaned his fingernails with a sharp switch blade. “You really think that pack is that idiotic to fall for that pathetic excuse?”

“Watch your tongue boy, or I'll end you so fast.” Jamison snapped loudly.

“You may have strength, Jamison. But I on the other hand are far more clever and cunning than you will ever be. That makes me much stronger than you in any fight.” Adam corrected him as he never took his eyes off the blade that scrapped under his nails.

“If you are so clever and cunning why don't you figure out how to get my son away from that God damned pack of dogs.”

“Easy, just waltz right up to the boarder. They'll take you into custody and I'll still be free. And when the time is right I'll swoop in and set you free.” Adam shrugged his shoulders as if he knew the proper plan all along.

Jamison cackled as he looked at the younger man with an incredulously glare. “You actually think that Connor Baynes and my son would fall for something as preposterous as that?”

“Believe what you want old man. I have been breaking into places far longer than you have. I know how to get by things undetected unlike you and the pathetic excuse you call back up. But if you want to go in there teeth bared and ready to fight, you go ahead. They are ready for us, they are packing some heavy guns now.”
