Recap:

Jake and Josh put their arms around me for support so I could walk.

It started getting dark as we all walked in silence.

“Are you okay?” Josh whispered in my ear.

I thought about it for a minute.

I can’t keep lying to myself. I’m not really okay. I’ve just been saying I was okay. But, I’m not okay anymore. I have a bullet in my leg. My face is all beat up again and my ribs are more than likely broken. Physically and emotionally I’m not okay. At all.

“No.” I finally said.

Cody looked back at me when I said that.

Our eyes met for a couple seconds and then I looked at the ground as we approached the back of the haunted house.

Alli called her mom, and so did Mikala.

Angie was here within 5 minutes.

She told Cody and I to get in the car so she could take us to the hospital to get the bullets out of us.

We both climbed into the backseat carefully, and then Angie was off.

Alli sat in the front and turned around, looking at us worried.

“Alli, we’re going to be okay, don’t worry.” Cody said, as he saw Alli’s eyes start to fill with tears.

Mikala’s mom was going to take Campbell, Billy, Josh, and Jake to Cody’s house until we get back. Mikala wanted to go with, but her mom insisted she just come home, so Mikala agreed.

We arrived at the hospital about 10 minutes later.

Alli and her mom helped me out of the car and into the hospital. Once the nurses saw Cody and I, they rushed us immediately into operating rooms to get the bullets out.

They put me to sleep so I was very unsure what they were going to do.

I woke up and looked at my surroundings. I was in a hospital bed.

Cody was beside me asleep.

A sharp pain went through my leg so I immediately looked at it.

My leg was wrapped up in bandages from my knee to my toes.

I finally remembered what happened when I saw Cody’s shoulder.

We were shot by one of my dad’s friends.

Tears filled my eyes as I looked at Cody’s shoulder once again.

He wouldn’t have gotten shot if it weren’t for me. Why did he have to take me home with him that night?

Cody woke up to my loud sobbing.

“Maggie, what’s wrong?” He asked.

I looked at him.

“Your shoulder. It’s my fault. Why did you come looking for me?” I asked, sobbing into my hands.

“Because, Maggie. I love you.” He said.

I shook my head.

“You shouldn’t.” I said.
