Chapter 8

"Where do the two of you keep sneaking off to then" Asks Rhoald during one of our mid-morning breaks between weaponry and archery. The five of us had found a secluded spot in the corner of the courtyard, monopolising the only shaded patch in the area.

"We told you already. The King and Queen have us waiting on them, I have to learn their ways from the ground up apparently and since you and Leon already understand the ways of the Royal household Ali here doesn't. They want him to train alongside me to help him with that."

"Why not us though?" Whines Rhoald for what feels like the thousandth time in the weeks since Edmon and I had been granted use of the roof and additional training during regular training hours. Rhoald and Leon both accepted our story and didn't really question it they both still felt like they were being kept from something important. They were of course but we would tell them soon enough, once we all have our knighthoods.

"Looks like they you are going to be summoned again." Jewles comments nodding in the direction of a serving girl conversing with Rohann and Jamie her head bowed and her posture showing utter obedience. They both take a look in our direction and nod back at the girl.

"I think you're right." Edmon replies, I know without turning back to look at him that he has rolled his eyes. What now? I ask myself.

It's not good Ali, serious news. Answers Sket as she trots into the yard from the door leading to our chambers.

I feel my heart sink and just hope that they don't want me but the way she is talking to be makes me feel like they need me.

"Artt, Dracul! Here." Shouts Jamie from the other side of the yard.

"Told you." Mutters Jewles rather darkly and I turn to look at him.

"Are you a psychic?" I ask getting the feeling like he knows something the rest of us don't.

"Nope, just observant." He answers matter-of-factly. I let it drop for now but I know there is something he isn't telling us, much like there is something Edmon and I aren't telling them. Why do I get the feeling then that his secret is much worse than mine? Getting up I dust off my breaches and straighten my shirt before falling into step with Edmon and quickly crossing the courtyard. I turn to glance back at my friends and am greeted with Rhoald's smiling form, no wonder I could feel teir eyes on us. They were just as curious as we were.

"Sir?" Asks Edmon coming to a stop in front of our two trainers. They take their time to look us both up and down. I stand there tall in an attempt to not show how curious I am feeling. I refrain from bouncing on my heels as the silence stretches between the four of us. I can tell Edmon is getting impatient and it is confirmed when he speaks again. "You called us over, is everything alright? Do we need to be somewhere?" He asks hoping to prompt them into talking. Finally it's Rohann who breaks and begins to talk.

"You have both been summoned to the Queens private quarters. We have been told not to expect you back so it would be an idea to clean up before you go." Rohann advices looking directly at me as he says this.
