Trust me.

If looks could kill Angela and Jazz would be dead.

They were grinning from ear to ear as Angela retold the story of how Hunter

caught me in PE, and I could only glare as I brought out my checklist.

Q4: if you were falling, he would:

A) laugh

B) catch you

C) make fun of you

I ticked B.

Sad right?

"I told you."

I looked up to see Jazz smiling proudly at me.

"Okay, okay," I relented. "But it doesn't prove anything."

"Just you wait and see," Angela told me.

"When did you find out about this anyway?" I asked her.

"I didn't find out," she explained. "I made it with Jazz."

I glared again.

"Stop glaring at us," Jazz laughed. "You'll get frown lines and even Hunter

couldn't love you then." And then she and Angela commenced their rabid laughter.

I was going to prove them wrong.

*

The bell rang for the end of break.

"Angela," I said, "Come on, we have maths."

"Oooh," Jazz said. "Good luck, he's in a crappy mood today."

"He's always in a crappy mood," I commented.

"Well, then he's in an even crappier mood. Watch out."

Angela and I nodded as we headed to the class, waving goodbye to Jazz who had

geography.

*

She was so right. Again.

Mr Chambers was in a worse mood today than ever. I mean, he was always crabbing

at us for nothing, and moaning at us for not doing or work, but today he was not

even letting us sit next to who we wanted to.

Which meant that I wasn't sitting next to Angela.

Cue:

"What?!"

That was me.

"Denise!"

That was Mr Chambers.

"If you ever yell in my class like that again I shall be forced to send you to remove!"

The class snickered as he subsequently sent us to line up at the back of the

room as he read out the new seating plan.

"Here at the front," Mr Chambers began, "where I can keep a good eye on you, I want Denise and..." He looked back at the plan.

I knew from my streak of bad luck that my partner would be someone I did not like.

"...and Hunter."

"What?!"

That was not me. I was going to scream again but Angela, thankfully, clamped her hand over my mouth so it sounded like, "uguwha mffus."

Nope, it was Hunter who screamed.

The class burst out in laughter again.

"SILENCE!" Mr Chambers voice hit us like bricks. "The two of you sit down now."
