AS SHE PACKED, Diana could only think that when she dies on this quest - not if, when - she should at least be wearing something nice - a side effect of the amount of time she spends with Silena.

She should've refused. She should've stood her ground and said, "No. I don't want to go." They probably wouldn't have protested much and let her return to bed. Instead, she made the mistake of looking them in the eyes.

Diana saw the twinkle of expectations in Annabeth's gaze. She saw Grover's courage. Percy's eyes, however, were somewhat unreadable. Diana already had an issue with saying no to people, but the look in their eyes made it impossible. So, she went against every instinct in her body and agreed.

If you didn't count the trips to Olympus, Diana hadn't been in the outside world since she was 7. She was not eager to return, but here she was packing a sweater, gauze, ambrosia, a granola bar, a flashlight, and anything else she felt like she would need in the cold, cruel world outside of her warm, safe home.

Diana's anxiety was getting more and more palpable by the second. Her hands were trembling so violently, she couldn't get the zipper of her bag up. Tears of frustration and dread began to obscure her vision.

Diana then felt a tap on her shoulder and jumped 7 feet in the air. With wide eyes, she turned to see Percy standing there looking guilty.

"I didn't mean to- Sorry." He scratched the back of his head awkwardly. Diana waved it off, taking a deep breath, but didn't say anything. At that moment, he seemed to notice the moisture in her eyes and the shivering of her hands. "Hey, are you okay?"

Diana's first instinct was to nod, but as she opened her mouth to speak, she knew how obvious it was that she was lying. Instead, she shook her head and let out a deep sigh. She sat on the edge of her bed, Percy following suit beside her, albeit awkwardly.

"I'm just-" A pause while she rapidly blinked her teary eyes. "I'm just scared." She whispered. She saw him nod in her peripheral vision.

"You know, I haven't been in the outside world since I was 7." Percy didn't say anything, but he watched her as she spoke. "The last time I was out there... I just- I like my life here. I'm just scared if I go out there, I might..."

"Lose it?" Diana nodded. They were both silent. "I know I haven't been here long, but I like it here. I don't really want to lose this place, either."

Diana glanced at him. He looked just as scared as she felt. Diana swallowed her nerves, forcing a soft grin.
