Pestilence

You don't know her, but she died just the other day; not slow, wasting away, but in a gruesome, painful, horrendous way.

You don't know him, but he died alone in an ICU bed; with a sense of overwhelming dread and no one to bathe his wet flaming forehead.

You don't know them, but they fly to the bedside and try to save when the bells cry out; only to stand there by and watch them and others die.

You don't know the old ones, but they paid the ultimate price; a reckless society rolled loaded dice, and the elderly were the sacrifice.

You don't know them, but there's quite a few; they sit susceptible in a wooden pew as God's light passes through.

You don't know the many folks that believe this is all a hoax; while thousands lay in hospital beds and each attempts to breath and swallow, but only chokes.

You don't know this, but there are many more, a majority, in fact, that beg and implore; yet leaders find many reasons to ignore.

You don't know this, but are you the pestilence spreading like fungus and weakening the roots that support all the rest of us?
