He's tense at first but then he relaxes a bit, while his tail starts wagging slowly. If you get that specific spot behind his ears, his foot might tap on the ground a little. It takes a minute or more till he realizes what you're doing, and immediately stops you, and says you should ask first, so you don't accidentally do it in front of people. He don't want to be embarrassed.
Snake
He stops what he's doing, and let's out a noise of confusion. He realizes you're petting his head scales, and he's fine with it. But if you pet his whole body down to the tip of his tail, he shivers and shakes a little. He'd want you to stop there but that's when you started scratching right under his jaw. He gave in immediately, and purred. You giggle, then stops your hand with his tail, telling you to wait till you're somewhere private with him.
