"I remember when I first heard your heartbeat
It had only been eight weeks
Standin' there, starin' at that screen, was the
First time you ever scared me
God knows I don't know
Exactly what I'm doin', but
Good news, we got her to get through it"

"I can't believe that tiny little bean is our baby." Jack says, awestruck. His hand rests lovingly above my belly as he stares at the ultrasound screen. This is the first time Jack has gotten to see the baby, because the last time I went to the doctor was to get the pregnancy confirmed and Jack had been on the road.

The doctor smiles. "Well, not only is that your baby, but they have a heartbeat that you will be able to hear today."

Jack beams so big that it has to hurt. My heart beats faster. I love how excited he is about all of this. He's stoked to be a dad.

"Did you hear that, sweetheart? We can hear their heartbeat!" Jack tells me excitedly, practically jumping up and down in his seat.

"Yeah, I heard." I run a hand over his hair to try to calm him down.

The doctor suddenly turns a knob and all of a sudden, the
room is filled with the sound of a quiet, steady heartbeat. Jack's eyes immediately fill with tears as he stares at the screen. He looks completely mesmerized.

"Jack, are you crying?"

He nods but doesn't wipe the tears from under his eyes. "I can't believe this." He whispers.

"That's our baby. Can you believe that? I can't." He mumbles as he buries his face against my shoulder. The doctor mouths to me that she'll be back and leaves to give us a moment of privacy.

"Jack, what's wrong?" I ask as he soaks my shoulder with his tears. It's rare for Jack to cry, and I don't think I've ever seen him cry this much.

"I'm scared." He admits.

"Why would you be scared, Jacky?" I ask, lifting his head or he has to meet my eyes. I wipe his tears and he smiles softly up at me. "Why are you scared? You have no reason to be."

"What if I'm a horrible dad? I've never had a kid before, obviously, and Luke and Quinn don't have kids, so I don't even have an nieces or nephews. I don't have any experience with this stuff."

I shake my head and laugh quietly. "You're gonna be an amazing dad, Jack. You love kids. You're a natural. I've seen you with kids before and you're amazing, Jack. Don't stress, okay? You're going to be amazing." I assure him, kissing his forehead.

He smiles and places a light kiss against my lips. "What would I ever do without you?" He whispers.

"You would beat the hell out of yourself."

He chuckles. "You're not wrong."

Jack's POV

"I hope you look just like your momma
And love her like I do
You'll see close to perfect patience
If you watch her every move
You can always run to daddy
You'll always be my baby
But, look at her, baby girl
And you'll learn
How to be a lady"
