THOMAS AWOKE TO THE SOUND of the maze doors opening, stone shifting into place making him curiously glance over. By the wide aperture, stood Andie and Newt, both waving off Minho and Alby.
The boy mindlessly wondered why the Commander was heading into the maze and not the girl. She was the runner after all, not him.
From his hammock, he watched Andie and Newt walk slowly side by side, straining his neck as if it would help him hear. He found himself desperately wanting to know what the two talked of. They seemed to be of the few who knew most of what went on around here, something Thomas was eager to know.
"How's that knee of yours?" Andie sighed at the blonde's question. She had overworked it the day prior, and at this point even she knew it would be stupid to run on it only the next day.
"It's healing. Slowly, but still healing." She muttered, clearly unpleased with the situation. She fiddled with the medallion around her neck, something she did often to distract herself from everyone and everything.
Newt snickered at her bad mood, all while tugging at her braid playfully. It made her head flip his way, landing however on someone else. Her eyes met Thomas' who had been observing all along.
His eyebrows furrowed when her gaze unmistakably narrowed on him. She felt an odd sense around him, making her wary. So far her impression of him wasn't too good. He would have to prove her otherwise to earn her trust.
