Chapter 6

Aaron and I spent a few nights together like that during the following weeks mostly when we were not on a case so anyone else wouldn't notice.

There was no sexual element to those sleepovers though. We just enjoy each other's company and he talks to the baby almost every day, even if it will be for just a minute.

He also helps me with my morning sickness, gets me food when I'm craving something without carrying if it's 3 am. I didn't know he could be so soft and it is so adorable.

Tonight, we spent the night at his place and I was getting ready to leave because today I'm supposed to announce to my parents that they are going to have a grandbaby.

Aaron kept reminding me all night that everything is going to be ok but my overthinking doesn't let me believe it.

I was pouring coffee before I left when he came out of the bathroom.
"What are you doing?" he asks leaning against the counter and folding his arms

"I'm pouring myself coffee. I cut the alcohol but I can't stop drinking coffee. And like you said, it's my body so my choice. I choose what I put in it. Like you, you were a choice so you should be grateful and not argue with me" I say

"Ok..." he says and takes a bag of crackers from the cabinet.

"Ok?" I ask a bit concerned because I was expecting an argument

"Yes, as you said you make your own choices" he says and eats a cracker as he watches me

"Are you trying reverse psychology on me?" I ask

"No, I'm not" he says as he keeps eating

"Thank you" I say. But as soon as I get the cup on my lips, I stop. I felt guilty for some reason. He looks at me and smiles.

"Wipe that smile off your face and don't you dare laugh" I say and I walk to the door.
But I go back and I grab the bag of crackers for his hands
"I deserve it" I say and I take it with me.

"Wait" he says and I stop

"What?" I ask

"I'm coming with you" he says and gets up

"No, you really shouldn't" I say

"It's my responsibility too and I promised to be there all the way" he says causing me to smile

"Ok, go get ready" I say and I start eating as I wait for him.

"How strict are they? Should I wear a suit?" he asks from the bedroom

"Nah, black looks better on you" I say

"Good to know" he replies with a chuckle. In a couple of minutes he was ready and we left.

"We are here" I say as I park outside the house after a couple of hours drive.

"They are expecting only me and I think it will be better if I explain the situation to them before they see you" I add

"I'll go grab some coffee or take a walk and you call me whenever you are ready, ok?" he suggests

"Thank you" I say and he smiles.
"Just be careful a little bit. People here gossip a lot" I say as we get out of the car

"Ok, thanks for the heads up" he says and walks away.

I texted him that he can return about 30 minutes later but I waited for him in the car.
"Hey, why are you in here?" he asks as he gets in the car

"Let's get out of here" I say and I start the engine

"No, wait. Are you crying?" he says taking the keys from my hand
"How bad?" he asks
