‘Alex get back in your chair right this minute!’

‘You and I, we don’ wan’ be like them...’

‘Alex!’ I said, beginning to get a bit agitated with her. She laughed at me and continued to dance on the sidewalk.

‘This mix Liam is aw’some!’ she said bobbing her head and moving her arms awkwardly that I couldn’t help but laugh. This was a side of Alex that I rarely got to see. Today she woke up earlier than me and even helped Mum breakfast and then she walked me to my car when I was going to school. When I came back from school, she was in the living room with Mrs Watson watching the Discovery Channel and insisted she wanted to go for a walk immediately I walked into the living room.

So now here we were on a way back home from the park, where she’d also made me chase her around trying to get her to stay in her chair. I was happy she was so happy today but I was also worried she’d tire herself out so I didn’t want to risk.

‘Dance wi’ me!’ she said, taking my hand and swinging it trying to get me to dance.

I couldn’t help but laugh, ‘I can’t hear any music, sweetie.’

She removed her earphones from her iPod so I could clearly hear the music, ‘Now dance, lil girl!’

‘Oh my God, fine,’ I said laughing and moving my arms like the way she was a few minutes ago.

‘Gwacie you should really learn how to dance,’ she said and I rolled my eyes. Right, I thought with an amused grin on my face.

‘Okay, that’s enough,’ I said, taking her arms and sitting her on the chair. ‘Look at the sky, Alex. It’s going to rain soon so we better start going.’

She pouted at me but continued to sing along to the song and I started for home. God, I’ll miss her...so much.

I don’t even know where the thought came from. It immediately dampened my mood and tried swallow the big lump forming in my throat.

Think of something else, I thought to myself. Think...something like, Chris. Or in this case someone.

He’d not been really around as much as he usually is the past few days. He missed lunch today and yesterday he’d only come for half of it. I hadn’t seen much of him at Mrs Watson’s either. Was there anything wrong?

I doubt that though, I answered myself. He’d seemed really happy...maybe happier than I’d ever seen him. I wonder what had happened...I’d ask him the next time I saw him.

Then there was Ash. I tell you, people can surprise you. He really was a cool person to hang out with and I could see the whole bad boy image was just a front he’d put up to keep the real Ash from being seen. I s till didn’t have any luck trying to pry his real name from him. I’ll have to find away to get it though.

Chuck and Sammy...those two...I’m not sure if I should be glad they finally got it in their heads that they like one another or not. My lunch breaks will never be the same, I thought as I tried to keep out the images of them making out at the table today. Of course I’d left them there with Leroy who was filming the whole thing. Weird, I know.

‘Oh mah God, Gwacie...look who’ve come!’ I heard Alex squeal as we neared our house. There was a car parked at the curb in front of our house and...

‘Granma! Gran’pa!’ Alex screamed and shot off her chair and ran into the arms of my grandfather. What did Mum put in Alex’s supper yesterday? I thought as I wheeled the empty chair towards my grandparents.

‘Oh, Alexandra darling, I’ve missed you!’ Grandpa said, lifting Alex off the ground making her squeal in excitement as she tightened her arms around his neck.
