Pax stared at the starlit sky. "How do you defeat a monster without becoming one?"

Kain remained silent. "With kindness," he eventually said. "Monsters aren't born; they're man-made. Monsters are forged out of harsh words, bullying and..." His expression darkened. "And more gruesome human activities. Using violence only fuels their anger, but if you give them what they've been missing for so long - if you give them kindness - they will learn to be kind again." 

He glanced at Pax. 

"You don't defeat monsters," he said, "you help them defeat themselves."
