“Ah, at last,” the Sorting Hat’s voice echoed through Vinley’s mind immediately. “I was told that one such as you would come. One who has no place.” No place. Vinley felt the blood drain from her face as the words floated through her head. The very words she had been dreading ever since she received her letter. How could it be true? Was she to be sent home because the Sorting Hat could not sort her into any of the four Houses? Because she had no place? “Oh, you will not be sent home,” chuckled the Hat, reading Vinley’s mind. “No, I will choose a place for you. Slytherin could make you powerful—but it is obvious that that is not your ambition. Hufflepuff would tend your loyalty and devotedness—but would discourage your willpower. Gryffindor—now there’s a place for the courageous and just. . .” Vinley held her breath, hanging on the Hat’s words. “But I have a different path in mind for you. . . “Ravenclaw, I suppose!” The Hat said in a matter-of-fact tone. It took Vinley a moment to register that he had spoken the words aloud. (This is a fan fiction based on J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series.
