Chapter 52: How Can I Go If You Don’t Let Go?
“My name is Song Xiao,” she told her name to Ye Sui.
“I’m Ye Sui; did you wait because of me?”
Song Xiao nodded. “I guessed you could see ghosts the first time I saw you on the shore the other day.” Last time, Ye Sui had really mistaken her as a malicious ghost, so she didn’t have a chance to speak with her and left immediately.
After being sought by the ghosts for so many times, Ye Sui was already accustomed to them. “Do you have any unfinished business?”
Song Xiao’s face hardened. Soon her tears fell on the wooden floor. “I have a long-time crush on that painter.”
Song Xiao was a victim of campus bullying. She and the painter were students from the same high school, and he was her senior. He was also the only kind person whom she had encountered in her short youth.
Song Xiao was the lead dancer of their school dance club, but because of her cold personality, she was considered arrogant and was despised by others. Therefore, she was often bullied by her schoolmates. They took away her dancing shoes, filled all the books in her desk, grabbed her long hair, and pushed her against the wall…
One day, Song Xiao was sitting on the stairs beside the dance room, covering her face between her knees and weeping.
Then a certain boy, whom she recognized, walked towards her. He was her senior who painted in the atelier downstairs and always held his album silently.
Song Xiao’s cheek was still red and swollen, and the tears could not relieve the pain she felt. Their dislike for Song Xiao only grew deeper and deeper, laughing at her time and again, isolating her and attacking her.
That afternoon, the senior sat down beside Song Xiao without any words of consolation. He just gave her a tissue.
There was too much malice in this world, but Song Xiao saw a small light seep out from the dark sky.
Later, Song Xiao was once again bullied by a girl who pulled her hair and smashed her to the wall. She was surrounded like a clumsy mouse and didn’t even have the strength to struggle.
Yet, a teaching director knocked at the door and took away everyone who bullied Song Xiao. After they left, Song Xiao saw a senior standing across the open door.
Song Xiao’s family was poor. People like her could only study hard to improve their condition.
She heard that the senior had entered the Academy of Fine Arts. She worked hard and later had to go to his city to fill in the volunteer form.
No matter how others bullied Song Xiao, she didn’t care. Only when passing through the studio, she thought there was a person she loved secretly from a distance.
The summer her senior year was over, Song Xiao fell into the water and was dragged inside by the real water ghost, becoming someone else’s scapegoat.
She never had a chance to tell her senior that she had a crush on him for so long.
Later, Song Xiao did her best to save the drowning people every time she saw them.
Song Xiao experienced three years of high school violence on campus. Even though she had endured so much bitterness, she still retained the kindness in her heart.
And those who bullied Song Xiao, those teenagers who were full of hostility, even if they were following the crowd blindly, were still quite hurtful.
But they already couldn’t remember how much harm they had done to Song Xiao.
The time in the lake was so long that Song Xiao thought she would never see her senior again. But one day, she saw him at the riverside.
Her senior’s family was in decline. He painted for others every day just to earn his tuition. When there was no business, he would paint what he liked.
The senior drew Erhai Lake with affection, and Song Xiao gazed at him from nearby.
One day, her senior’s paintings floated into the lake, which he had accidentally dropped into the water and was trying to pick up. Song Xiao was scared since she didn’t want her senior to become someone else’s prey. She must save him.
He had once aided her and brought her out of despair.
Even though Song Xiao was dead and her senior wasn’t aware of her crush on him, Song Xiao still hoped that his life would continue.
After all, his brilliance had lit up the darkness in her life.
After saving her senior, Song Xiao saw that he came to Erhai Lake more and more often. She would frequently see him, but she found herself running out of time, sensing that she was about to leave.
After hearing Song Xiao’s story, Ye Sui saw the teardrops falling from her eyes. Her eyes were already wet. “My request is very simple.”
Ye Sui listened patiently as Song Xiao continued. “Can you help me find him to draw a picture?”

Ye Sui listened patiently as Song Xiao continued. “Can you help me find him to draw a picture?”
After Song Xiao’s incident, her family had left Yunnan, this sad place. She told Ye Sui about her high school and said that she could find her photo there.
“The security is very strict, though. If you can’t get inside through the gate, you can jump over from the sidewall of the school.” Song Xiao kindly reminded Ye Sui.
Song Xiao told Ye Sui the exact location of the photo wall.
The next day, Ye Sui decided to go to Song Xiao’s high school. Even if she had to climb over the wall, she would endure it, but of course, she had to bring Chen Shu with her.
When Ye Sui and Chen Shu arrived, the school was still in class, and no student was walking around the gate. It was empty.
Ye Sui did not have school uniforms to sneak into the school and mix with others, so she had to find another way, and a shortcut at that.
Ye Sui stood outside the wall on the other side of the school. She looked up at the high wall for a while and then turned to look at Chen Shu. “Have you ever climbed over a wall before?”
Ye Sui was quite curious about Chen Shu’s schooldays. He looked so good that he should never have done such things to skip classes.
The atmosphere was quiet; Chen Shu didn’t speak, obviously not wanting to answer Ye Sui’s question.
Ye Sui fully understood Chen Shu’s thoughts. She felt that in order to help those ghosts, she had everything she could and couldn’t do.
Fortunately, there were no reporters here. If this scene was filmed, the headline of tomorrow would definitely be Ye Sui. She even thought about the title.

Ye Sui took out two masks from her pocket and handed them to Chen Shu like a treasure. “Look, I specially prepared it for you.”
Chen Shu looked at the mask with a complicated expression, not giving any reaction for a long time.
If Chen Shu’s fellow workers were here, they would sigh with emotion splendidly. In order to chase after his wife, the president of Huarui even did the job of climbing over the wall.
Ye Sui ignored Chen Shu’s thoughts and helped him put the mask on his face. There was CCTV here, so it would not be good if their faces were photographed.
After covering Chen Shu’s face with a mask, Ye Sui quickly disguised herself and then came to the edge of the wall. She turned around, smiled, and waved to Chen Shu.
“Since I’m not tall enough, you help me.” Ye Sui put forward her request justly.
Chen Shu bent down with resignation and held his hands together, lifting Ye Sui up. His movements were very steady. When Ye Sui sat down by the wall, he let go.
The next second, Chen Shu propped his hands up against the wall and exerted force. His whole body instantly turned over the wall in a clean move.
“You can climb over the wall more skillfully than me.” Ye Sui looked at Chen Shu’s series of actions and could not help but sigh.
Hearing Ye Sui’s sincere praise, Chen Shu, who had not yet established himself, almost sprained his foot.
Ye Sui was frightened and hurriedly warned, “Be careful.”
Chen Shu walked to the wall, at the top of which Ye Sui was currently sitting. The wall was a little high for her. If she jumped directly, she would probably get hurt.
Seeing Chen Shu coming, Ye Sui opened her arms towards Chen Shu immediately. However, she stayed on the wall for a long time with a posture of asking for a hug, unable to touch the ground. Ye Sui felt flustered.
Chen Shu pulled Ye Sui’s waist and helped her down from the wall. Because of coming from above, she was held by Chen Shu, and the skin of her side face was stuck between Chen Shu’s neck.
Ye Sui’s breath caressed his neck lightly. They were leaning very close, slightly hurried. Every move he made, though, he felt a tingling sensation all over.
Chen Shu was in a daze, his body stiff.

Before he could return to his senses, Ye Sui stood up straight. She didn’t find anything strange about his body, however, and ended this brief embrace.
“Okay, let’s go to the dance hall.” Ye Sui recognized their current position and turned to look at Chen Shu but unexpectedly found his stunned look.
Ye Sui wondered. “What’s the matter?”
Chen Shu paused for a second. “Nothing.”
At this time, there was no one in the dance hall, and the light was dim. Ye Sui found a group photo on the wall outside the dance hall, which was taken during a performance of Song Xiao.
There were many people in the photo, and Song Xiao was standing in the middle. Even among a group of beautiful people, she was the most outstanding. Ye Sui found her at first sight.
Song Xiao in the photo was smiling sweetly. She seemed to be happy with the success of the performance. Her mood also infected others, judging from the picture.
Ye Sui took a picture of Song Xiao with her mobile phone and solved the matter. She finally breathed a sigh of relief. “Let’s return from the original path.”
Chen Shu:”…”
Before Ye Sui and Chen Shu reached their original spot, the bell suddenly rang, and the noise began to fill the building. The students all came out of the classroom.
Ye Sui immediately panicked. She and Chen Shu looked abnormal from the get-go. Who would believe they were just here to take a picture of Song Xiao?
Ye Sui hurriedly looked around, searching for a place to hide.
The next second, Chen Shu tugged on Ye Sui’s arm and pulled her into a secluded corner with a slight force.
There were not many students here. It was so quiet, meaning that almost no one would pass by, but the laughter of the students was spreading over from nearby, making them feel a little nervous for no reason.
“Shh.” Chen Shu made a gesture of silence. He then took off his coat and gently covered Ye Sui.
Chen Shu pulled up his coat again in a flash, and the sudden darkness blocked Ye Sui’s sight. Her vision suddenly turned black, and the light disappeared instantly.
Chen Shu’s coat was full of his fragrance, so clear and familiar, filling Ye Sui’s entire nose at once.
Chen Shu closed his coat and covered Ye Sui’s face, leaving only a small gap. He lowered his voice than usual. “Just in case, I’ll trouble you a little. I’m sorry.”
Chen Shu’s voice came across from the coat, but it seemed to be very close, almost sticking to her ears.
Surrounded by the smell of Chen Shu, Ye Sui unknowingly blushed from one ear to the other. She could even feel her face burning.
Through the gap in the coat, Ye Sui saw Chen Shu’s back, and her heart beat faster. She instinctively panicked but had nowhere to hide.
A few minutes later, the students began to walk back to the classroom one after another. The school was mostly empty, and the silence was restored again.
Chen Shu saw that they had all gone very far and was preparing to let Ye Sui leave the school as soon as possible; otherwise, she would be recognized if seen.
“Let’s go.”
Then, he brought Ye Sui out, but his hand was suddenly caught by her. Behind him came her helpless voice.
“Chen Shu!”
Chen Shu’s hand was still clutching the edge of the coat tightly, and Ye Sui’s entire head was covered inside. At this point, the air was almost depleted.
Ye Sui’s emotions remained calm for a bit. Afterward, it all burst out as she pulled Chen Shu’s hand and took his coat off her head.
“How can I go if you don’t let go?”
