Summer At the Burrow

School was finally over. It truly was a relief for everyone, including Rose. As much as she loved learning new things, the poor girl was in need of a long, warm summer break. Every summer, the Weasleys and Potters spend a month at the Burrow. And here they were. Rose jumped out of the car and took in a deep breath. The smell of her Grandma Molly's cooking was probably the second best thing here. The first thing was the taste. Running to the short lady with equally orange hair, Rose dearly hugged Grandma Molly.

"Grandma! I missed you so much"

Molly laughed as she embraced the hug and prepared for the next kid to ram into her. Hugo sprinted across the grass and practically pushed the two over.

"Come in, come in. You guys must be starving!" Ron and Hermione followed shortly after, along with Harry, Ginny, and James.

As for Albus, he was hanging out with Scorpius at the Malfoy Manor. After a little convincing, Harry and Ginny both agreed that Albus could spend a week there with Scorpius, then both of them can come to the Burrow, where Scorpius could stay for a week. As shocked as they were to hear that Albus had befriended a Malfoy, their worries disappeared the moment they met Scorpius. According to them, Scorpius was nothing but courteous. When Ron found out Scorpius would be staying over, he flipped out. Well, that would be an understatement. Luckily, Grandma Molly and Herminone were able to calm him down. Although they were a little bit cautious of the thought of a Malfoy staying over, things didn't seem so bad when Albus' face lit up with excitement when they approved of the visit.

"Albus and Scorpius should be here in a couple of minutes." Harry checked his watch and then walked into his room to get settled.

"I can't believe we are letting a Malfoy step into this house." Ron huffed. "Have you gone crazy mom?"

Rose was on her fathers side and was baffled when she found out she would have to spend a week at her own house with him. But she decided it was for the best to keep her mouth shut.

"Oh hush! If Albus is mature enough to look past surnames, then so are we." His mom smacked the back of Ron's head to shut him up.

Just then, the two boys appeared at the fireplace. They were almost unrecognizable to Rose. Both of them had a major glow up, growing past their pubescent stage. They were both tall and lanky, but fit. Rose's eyes scanned past Albus and were stuck on Scorpius. His jaw looked sharp enough to cut a piece of paper. His white-blonde hair had grown a little, and it was messy and ruffled up. He was wearing some plain black basketball shorts with a loose white t-shirt. He had a thin silver chain hanging from his neck and many stone rings on his hands (they looked far too expensive to be worn inside this household).

Rushing past her, Grandma Molly squeezed Albus with her oh-so famous hugs. Malfoy stood next to them awkwardly looking down. He no doubt felt out of place. With everyone greeting Al and bluntly starting at Malfoy. Then Grandma Molly seemed to notice the presence of the boy next to Al.

"You must be Scorpius. How lovely to meet you. Albus has told us so much about you." She gave him a warm smile and led them to the living room with the rest of the family without giving him a chance to reply.

"Well, now that we are all here, I guess it's time for lunch."

Cheers erupted from the room and everyone rushed to take a seat. The table was filled with various kinds of homemade sandwiches and pies for dessert. Thanks were said and everyone dug into their meals. The room was filled with chatter; Harry chatting with Ron and Hermione, Ginny was yelling at her brothers to slow down, Fred and James were wrestling over the last chicken sandwich, Hugo and Lily were playing a game, and Albus and Scorpius were laughing over something. Then there was Rose. Glaring at Malfoy. The nerve of this guy. A couple of times Scorpius caught her eye but every time they met eyes, she quickly looked away.

"Rose. Rose! ROSE!" Dominique finally got her cousin's attention. "How does this look? I've been planning to do my hair like this-" She used her fingers to clip up her hair. "But I think it shows too much of my forehead. What do you think?"

"Why are you doing hair?"

"We're going to take pictures, silly! Now I could also do it like this..."

Rose zoned out once again and ended up smiling and nodding to whatever Dom was rambling on about. It wasn't that she didn't like Dom. In fact, Rose often enjoyed her company. They didn't exactly have the same interests but Rose liked to stick next to Dom because she was one of the few cousins Rose could stand.

When the table was finally empty and the only thing left was the plates and stuffed bellies, everyone headed out to play a game of quidditch.

"Can Scorp play with us? He's really good." Albus dragged Scorpius outside with the rest of the family.

"Why not. James told me you're not half bad." Harry walked over to Scorpius and handed him a broom. "You play seeker, right?"

"Yeah, I guess I'm alright."

Oh how modest. Rose glared at him as she took a seat on the grass with Dom. If they were anywhere else, he would be bragging about his skills on the broom.

They grouped into two teams: A and B. With James and Scorpius as opposing seekers, the game started. After numerous games, with slightly more wins from the A team, everyone settled down as the sun began to set. Rose didn't really pay attention to the game but rather the view. It wasn't everyday that she got to sit back while hearing the busy chatter of her family and the fiery sunsets. With that, she and Dom laid back and although they tried to look annoyed with their families loud chatter, they both secretly enjoyed the warm feeling of home.

"That was a good game you kept up boys." Harry was impressed by coordination and skill Albus and Scorpius played out on the field. Although he always knew his son was good at quidditch, seeing his son sore through the sky while scoring goals was truly the sight. And Scorpius wasn't as bad as his father. Hell, he was amazing. However James had more experience and often beat Malfoy by a second. James did have to admit though, Malfoy was a challenging opponent.

The clear sky was a pale navy and violet, the aftermath of a sunset. Stars began to be visible and it was a sign they should head back in. The rest of the day went by smoothly and Rose decided it was best to ignore Malfoy.

They ate dinner, then went outside to set up tents. Scorpius couldn't have been more confused.

"It's sort of a tradition. We all like to sleep outside while our parents stay in. It all kinda started when they kicked us out of the house for 'adult talk', but it's actually kind of fun."

"That's nice." Scorpius kept his voice down. It was clear that the other kids wanted nothing to do with him and the last thing he wanted to do was further complicate that. Albus and Scorpius set up their own tent and after hours of chatting about all sorts of stuff, Albus fell asleep. Scorpius was tired, yet for some reason he could not sleep. After an hour of trying to seep, he decided to take a light stroll.

When he walked into the Burrow, he saw the lady who almost squeezed the life out of Albus. Grandma Molly, they called her.

"Hello." His voice was very light but with only the sound of water running, it wasn't hard to miss. Grandma Molly turned around from washing the dishes and saw him standing there.

"Oh, hi there. Why are you still up?"

"I couldn't sleep...do you need help?" Scorpius noticed she was washing loads of dishes all by herself. His mother always had him helping her with the dishes.

"No no no, its fine darling. W-"

"No, really I can help. I can't sleep and everyone else is asleep." He gave her a small smile and gently walked over to the sink, careful not to bump into anything. Molly looked down at the boy besides her. While Scorpius scrubbed the dishes and she rinsed them, Molly found herself growing quite fond of the boy. They often struck up different conversations and for once, Scorpius felt welcomed here from someone other than Albus.

The next day, they went for a picnic. Grandma Molly brought her homemade, ice cold lemonade and they all enjoyed themselves near the lake. They jumped into the lake, splashing and laughing. Maybe the Burrow wasn't as bad as Scorpius thought it would be.
