IT WAS AROUND TWELVE IN THE afternoon and skylar was in the one place she felt so connected with her father. it wasn't in the hospital, but in her old seattle home. she was in her old living room, seated on her piano bench, notebook in front of her. one of the many reasons why she was never here, was because of the many memories that filled this one home, but here she was, in the piano she spent most of her childhood with her father
a knock on her door is what brought her out of her thoughts. she sighs softly before getting up and walking to the door. she furrowed her brows, before opening it skeptically. as she stared at the person in front of her she closes her eyes sighing "how'd you even know i was here?" she questioned
"you really thought you could come to seattle and not let me know?" jackson, the guy who's like a father figure to her questioned with a sad smile
"i tried" she shrugs her shoulders giving the same sad smile back. stepping aside so that he could walk in
"c'mere" he said bringing her into his shoulders
"it was my mom wasn't it?" she questioned
"she didn't want you to be alone here. and if i'm being honest...i don't want you too either, but if you want me to leave...i'll leave" jackson confessed to his niece
skylar sighs softly, collecting her thoughts and feelings for a few seconds before speaking up "i have a concept for this new song" she said, giving him a small smile, as a sign for him to stay. jackson smiled before pulling up the nearest small single couch. she pulled out her phone, but before she played it, she spoke up
"just the other day mom found this video, dad made this for me because there would be days and nights were he wouldn't come home because of surgery's" she smiled softly "i would feel all alone without him" before pressing play
"hey my little sky, this is daddy. i just wanted you to know, that you aren't alone. keep that contagious smile on your face, everything's gonna be fine. i love you, i'll always love you. always and forever remember?" mark's words echoed both their ears
skylar placed her phone on top of the piano before playing the familiar keys and singing the newest lyrics she wrote

"th-that's" he slowly nodded, both his hands intertwined
"too depressing?" skylar questioned with a small sigh
"no,no, no" he chuckled softly "it's beautiful" he assured before staying quiet
skylar knowing him best, knew he was holding something back. she furrowed his brows "what? what's wrong?" she questioned before shifting to sit in front of him. he stayed quiet but skylar kept giving him a look
he sighs softly "i'm proud of you. okay? there i said it"
skylar's lips tugged into a smile, before letting out a small chuckle "w-what was that?" she teasingly questioned "i'm sorry, did the jackson avery just say he's proud of me?"
"oh shut up" he rolled his eyes with a smirk
"can i get that in writing?"
