The second movie comes to an end and we lay still while soft music plays in the background, as the credits roll. I watch the words appear and disappear off the screen while V strokes my hair. I feel the steadiness of her heartbeat, like an old familiar hum while my heads on her chest. A few minutes pass and I look up at V - her eyes are closed and she's smiling to herself completely reveling in the moment. Maybe it's because I hadn't seen her for a couple of days but she looks so indescribably beautiful, with her hair flowing over her shoulders, a soft smile on her face. Her hands soft and warm on my back. She looks so happy and I feel like I'm on top of the world just to have her back.
I pull myself up and forward so my face is towering over hers and she opens her eyes and smiles at me. We look at each other almost as though we are communicating the mutual comfort, safety and love we're feeling in this moment, through our eyes. I lean forward, cupping her face with both my hands as she wraps both her arms around my back and I kiss her. She kisses me back, her lips soft against mine - the kisses passionate and full in the most innocent of ways. I pull away for a second to look at her once more as she opens her eyes, her face resting in my hands.
"I love you" I whisper to her. Although we've been together for a couple of months, we've never explicitly said these three words to each other. I should've felt nervous, scared, emotional to be the one to say it. But in that moment, it felt so right, so real. It wouldn't matter to me if she said it back or not, cause I was at peace with this new understanding that I really do love her. With every beat of my heart.
Her eyes sparkle as she pulls me in for another kiss, a long one. I feel her holding me even tight, pulling me closer. She pulls her lips away, bringing one hand up to my cheek and stroking it with her thumb. She looks far into my eyes and whispers
"I love you too"
