understand- greer

"i'm viscount tewkesbury,"
the rather good looking boy says, putting his hand out for us to shake.
"the marquess of basilwether." he finishes.
i begin to raise my hand to shake his,
but enola pushes it back down.
"you're a nincompoop." she tells him.
i look at her and nudge her arm before turning my attention back to....
what was it?
ah yes.
tewkesbury.
he puts his hand into a fist and quickly puts it down, slightly smiling to himself.
"i'll have you know, i have just undertaken a particularly daring escape-" he begins to tell us gesturing towards the shelf he fell from, before i interrupt him.
"you have not escaped. there is a man in a brown bowler hat currently on this train searching for you, and once he finds you," i begin to say as enola watches me and he turns his head away.
"he will think we helped hide you, and we will be endangered by this. therefore, i ask you to get out of this carriage." i finish, still leaning slightly forward.
he's finally turned back to us and is looking me straight in the eye.
'i'm not sure how much i like this boy anymore, he's quite stuck up' i think to myself.
"you remind me of my uncle." he says to me.
"i've left him at the station."

-flashback-

"of course he's on the train! you simply haven't looked properly." an older man in some sort of uniform exclaims.

-end of flashback-

i look to the side before looking back at the boy.
"he's bossy too." he tells us.
"i can see it runs in the family..." i say to myself looking away.
"very funny." he says.
"left them all: my mother, my grandmother." he says, picking the bag up and putting it on the shelf above enola and i.
"but i'm fine. i'm free." he says looking at us.
"good. get out of the carriage, then." enola tells him.
he looks at the door and smacks his lips before looking back at me.
"a man in a brown bowler hat?" he asks more to himself, as i lightly shake my head yes.
he walks to the door opening it, and peeking his head out, looking to his right, then back at us.
"it'll be fine." he says, putting his head back out looking to the left.
he takes a deep breath before saying "it'll be fine." for the second time, more to himself as a reassurance.
he steps out and closes the door, walking down the hallway.
enola inhales before turning to me, as i smile a bit to myself.
"you fancy him don't you?!" she says rather loudly in my face.
"enola!" i scream at her, "of course not." i lie.
well not fully...
"ok then, that's good. he's too bossy and annoying for his own good." she tells me as i stare outside.

37 seconds later

tewkesbury barges back into the room.
"he's coming!" he screeches.
"of course." enola says, looking at me with wide eyes.
"he's checking every carriage." he tells us.
"wonderful." enola says picking up her jacket.
"you have to help me." he says to us.
"he didn't see me." he continues panicking.
"of course he did." i tell him.
"therefore, i say good day to you, viscount tewkesbury, marquess of basilwether." i say looking at him, before enola drags me behind her.
she opens the door and pulls us both out.
i stop at the door and give the boy a smirk.
"you really do remind me of my uncle. you have that same stare." he tells me nodding his head.
"i'm flattered." i joke in a flat tone before closing the carriage door and walking behind enola.
the man in the brown bowler hat walks by us and hits both of our shoulders, not even caring to say excuse me.
how rude.
i look back at him as enola just continues to walk.
"ah, there you are, sir." the man says to tewkesbury.
i hear him screaming and struggling in the carriage.
"enola we have to help him!" i shout at her.
even though i'm not the biggest fan of this boy, he doesn't deserve to be in danger.
enola just continues to stare forwards.

enola's pov-

-flashback-

"paint your own picture enola." mother said to the young girl. "don't be thrown off course by other people. especially men!" she tells her, who smiles at her foolishness

-end of flashback-

florence's pov-

i'm already half way to the carriage door as she stands still at the end of the hall.
enola sighs, and turns my way looking at the carriage door, then turning back around and exhaling sharply.
she started walking towards me as i wait for her to catch up.
we look through the glass on the door to see the man in the brown hat, pushing tewkesbury out of the carriage.
he's holding onto the door for dear life, not being able to fight back.
enola quickly opens the door with wide eyes and walks inside, as i stay outside.
frozen.
it's like i can't move.
i'm not sure why.
it's always been like this.
anytime there's violence, or yelling, or anything of that sort.
my body freezes up.
enola grabs a cane off of the seat and positions it almost like a baseball bat.
"help! help!" i can hear tewkesbury screaming, fear present in his voice.
"somebody help me!"
the train whistles as enola brings the cane up into the air and smashes it down upon the mans neck.
my vision becomes blurry as tears well up in my eyes.
"aah!" i hear tewkesbury scream as the door swings him to the side.
enola goes to the door and struggles to pull the boy back in.
i come up behind her and reach my arms out to help him as well.
he lets out an enormous yell, as well pull him back just in time.
the train door breaks, as it hit the stone tunnel.
we run out of the carriage as fast as possible with enola in front, me in the middle, and tewkesbury behind me.
"who is that? he was trying to kill me!" he screams pushing off of doorways.
"i'm not ready to die on a train!" he tells us.
"i'm not ready to die at all! we weren't going to before we met you." i tell him turning back to look at him.
we speed walk through the train.
"where are we going?" he asks us.
"i don't know yet. let me think." enola tells us.
we arrive at a carriage occupied by a man and lady, as enola looks inside.
the pair shriek at the sudden appearance, enola walks away.
"terribly sorry." tewkesbury and i say at the same time.
i turn around and give him a glare as he smirks at me.
we continue running, following enola, as she opens a door that leads to a different section of the train.
we hear the loud train whistle, and see the trees and bushes whooshing past us.

third person pov-

the man in the brown bowler hat has somewhat recovered from his injury.
he's walking down the trains hallway, looking inside the different carriages for viscount tewkesbury.

florences pov-

"is this truly the best way to come?" he asks enola.
"can you think of a better way?" she shouts at him, leaving me squished in between.
she turns back around, as tewkesbury looks down the hallway.
enola steps to the other section of the train, breathing heavily.
she looks up at me, as i look back at her with wide eyes, firmly shaking my head 'no'.
"you have to!" she shouts at me, she reaches her hand out as i take it in my own.
tewkesbury places a hand on my back helping me over.
i grab onto the train for dear life, as tewkesbury looks down and rolls his eyes.
he steps out of the train, shutting the door behind him, as enola moves over, closer to the edge.
i do the same, just with small steps, never looking down.
enola looks around the side of the train, as tewkesbury goes flat against the wall next to me, breathing heavily.
"do you trust me?" she shouts at us.
"no!" we shout to her at the same time, as she looks back around the edge.

third person pov-

the man in the brown hat makes his way down the train hallway, quickly peeking in each carriage, with a stern look on his face.

florence's pov-

"if we time it correctly, we can leave him stranded." enola shouts over the loud train.
"time what correctly?" tewkesbury asks her, as i look at her rather confused.

third person pov-

the man in the bowler hat barges into a carriage, startling a women. he quickly exits and continues down the hall.

florence's pov-

"listen, tewkesbury, and you flora.
we have two choices." she yells at us.
"and which one involves us not dying?" tewkesbury shouts back over me.
the train door bursts open, as the man in the brown bowler hat looks at us.
we're done for.
