I stood there in the center of the kitchen as Dianna was getting some stuff ready for tonight, they were cooking out, Eddie was currently outside getting the grill read.
"Is this spicy?" Dianna told me as she basically poured a spoonful of sauce in my mouth unexpectedly.
"It's- it's great Dianna" But really that sauce was spicy as heck, my mouth was burning, I needed something to drink or I'll probably die of hotness. I opened the fridge trying to act casual and grabbed a water bottle and basically chugged it down.
"Well you're a thirsty one" I smiled at Demi's mom. My phone rang unexpectedly making me excuse myself from Demi's mom briefly
"Hello" I said as I arrived in the living room which was empty
"Naya where are you?" My sister said, she sounded a little tired
"Um sis...I'm with my girlfriend I told you and mom" I heard her clear her throat
"Oh yeah that's right. I forgot, sorry, how is it being there" I looked up only to find Demi standing a couple of feet away from me
"It's great, especially since I get to wake up next to my girlfriend everyday" I told my sister, I heard a soft aww through the phone making me smile
"Well take care sis, hope you have a wonderful New Years, love you, bye" I hung up and looked at Demi who was playing with the puppy on top of the couch, I went up to them pausing slightly in front of Demi who was sitting on the couch
"No invite?" I said playfully
"Me and Buddy are having a wonderful time, isn't that right Buddy?" He just positioned himself in front of Demi and started to sleep on her lap
"His name is not Buddy, it's Ash"
"Buddy sounds more cuter and adorable" I shrugged
"Ash sounds cuter"
"Does not!"
"Does too!" Demi crossed her arms
"I'm kidding babe, you known your name sounds perfect too but apparently Ash sounds better" I said making her hit me in the arm
"Whatever floats your boat."
The day went by incredibly fast, around 6 is when Demi and I started getting ready. Dianna said guest were supposed to arrive at 7 or 8
"How do I look?" Demi told me, since it was going to be cold outside she was wearing a coat and a scarf around and just some regular skinnies
"You look great Dems" She pecked my lips before grabbing a beanie and throwing it at me "Thanks" I put it on as we both made our way to the backyard. There was Eddie cooking, and basically the whole family outside positioned around the bonfire that Eddie had made. I looked through inside the house seeing that just then the guest had arrived. Once they passed through the slide doors I got a clear look of all 3 of the people that where there, and it wasn't hard to gather which one was Ruby. I kinda knew which one was her, I was right, she was the one that gave me a look when I was running outside. What was her problem?
"Ah the Benevides are here" Dianna and Eddie went on to greet them as I stayed next to Demi the whole time. They all sat on the other side of the bonfire
"Do you guys want to eat?" Dianna asked them, they all said yes except for Ruby
"No I already ate but thank you Mrs.Lovato" They all went inside leaving only Marissa and Ruby here, and of course me and Demi. Marissa started a conversation of how she has a theory that fishes have legs, I stopped paying attention and my eyes went straight to Rubys direction, she happened to be staring at my girlfriend, then her eyes moved from her to me and she only smirked before looking at Marissa. It wasn't hard to catch Ruby staring at Demi every time, it made me uneasy about it that at one point I had pulled Demi into me by putting my arm around her shoulder as she leaned her head against my chest
"Cute couple alert" Marissa said out loud making Demi blush and laugh
"We are, especially since I have this one right here" I poked Demi's nose
"Aww, stop! you're giving me the feels" I kissed Demi on the side of her head. It was nearing 12 and we decided to go to the front to start popping some fireworks
"You get this one" I told Demi, Ash was on a leash so he wouldn't escape, I was the one taking care of him while Demi and Ruby went on and popped fireworks together, they didn't talk or anything they just separately did them.
"Hi Buddy" I heard Maddie say
"It's Ash!" I groaned
"My sister calls him Buddy so it's Buddy" She kneeled down and petted him "you're so cute Buddy"
"Can you take care of him, I want to pop fireworks" I said not looking at Maddie but more to Demi who was talking to Ruby and Ruby seemed to be telling her something important, I thought they weren't friends? Maddie agreed to hold him for a little bit, I was okay with it I just felt the need to be with Demi when other people our age were around, especially Ruby.
"Just think about it okay" I heard Ruby say before she left off walking away
"What was that?" I said making Demi jump a little
"Nothing, just clearing things up" she nervously chuckled. I could tell she was lying
"Demi are you sure?" I said
"Yes Naya it's nothing"
"But Dem-"
"It was nothing Naya just drop it!" She said harshly before walking away
"I was just making sure" I said to no one in particular.
It was 11:28 and Demi had yet to talk to me, I wondered what was going through her mind? I didn't do anything did I? I shook my head and grabbed a lighter from the cabinet inside to pop fireworks
"Hello hot stuff" I jumped a bit
"Jesus, you have got to stop doing that" Marissa just went around me also grabbing a lighter from the cabinet
"It's a habit. Where's Demi?" I shrugged
"I don't know and I honestly don't care"
"You don't care about your girlfriend? What if she's in a ditch somewhere. Are you still going to be saying that you don't care"
"No-it's just, she was talking to Ruby earlier and after she was done she kinda went off on me. Do you think Ruby?..."
"No I doubt she would, maybe she told her something that made her think about it and she just didn't have her thoughts with her at the moment and was confused. She probably didn't mean it"
"What if she breaks up with me?" I said truthfully
"She won't do that. If she does there's always me" I looked at Marissa seriously "I'm joking...possibly" she mumbled making me turn serious for a moment "but she won't break up with you, just caught her at a wrong time" I nodded and looked at Marissa for a moment "Yeah um...I have to go you know... I have to give these to them outside...bye" she kissed my cheek briefly before leaving me shocked

I feel like shit, why did I lash out at Naya, was Ruby right? She doesn't like me, she's just here because she feels pity since she's one of the main reasons I got into an accident so she feels as if she needs to be here. But the accident happened a long time ago, she would've left by now, yeah she would've.
I saw Marissa handing out cups of hot chocolate "Hey Marissa have you seen Nay?"
"No-Nope....haven't seen her, why?"
"I just need to talk to her"
"Yeah I don't know" Okay weird. I went inside and went inside my room hoping she was there but she wasn't
"Well hello Demi...I mean Dems as your girlfriend calls you" I saw Ruby getting out of the restroom, wait what was she doing in my room?
"What are you doing in here?"
"Just going to the restroom. What are you doing here?"
"This is my room" she started laughing
"You got me there. Where's your little girlfriend? She left you already? Told you it was bound to happen." She stopped in front of me
"No I was looking for her"
"She's probably fucking your best friend," she said "or maybe it's the other way around" even in the dark I could practically see her smirking, she was standing right in front of me of curse, u felt her get closer until our foreheads were touching. "I'm telling you Demi, you and me, we should be together. Naya, she doesn't know you like I do, I'm better than her. I liked you since middle school"
"That's why you bullied me" I took a step back "because you liked me"
"It was more complicated then that"
"I tried to kill myself because of you and your little friends"
"I'm terribly sorry, we can make it work" She grabbed my face and kissed me. I didn't kiss back, although it took me a while to register what was happening until I pushed her off and slapped her
"Don't ever do that again" I told her wiping my lips with the back of my hand
"Demi!" I heard Naya calling my names grouch the hall, the door opened and Naya was standing there "Demi...and uh Ruby?" Ruby smirked and walked passed Naya
"That was wonderful Demi" Ruby said before leaving making my jaw drop.
"I...uh....there's ten minutes left, we should go outside" I grabbed Naya by the hand and led her outside, I knew she wanted to talk about why me and Ruby where together, I also was debating on telling her if I should tell her about the kiss. But for now I just wanted these last ten minutes to end well.
