Chris P.O.V.
My family and I walked to the football field. Mom and Dad both got off at six to come to the game with us. My brothers and sisters and I each brought a blanket just in case we got cold.
We got to the field a few minutes before the game started. I see Xavier standing with a few people that's probably his family. A man with gray hair standing with Xavier saw and waved at us. "Dominic, nice to see you again!" He shakes my dad's hand.
"We saw each other an hour ago," Dad said.
"I know."
"You two know each other?" I asked.
"Yeah, I work for this guy at the police station," Dad said.
"I'm surprised you didn't tell him, considering Chris and Xavier are in the same class," Mr. Duncan said to Dad.
"So is Mariah and Preston," Dad laughed.
"Who's Preston?" I asked
"Shane's other son," Dad said. "Xavier didn't tell you. Or Mariah?"
"I barely interact with Preston," Mariah said.
"And Xavier's not much of a talker," Mr. Duncan said.
I thought about Monday when Jane and I tried to include Xavier into our conversation, but he barely said a word. "Yeah, he really isn't."
A woman with dark hair and olive skin came up right next to Mr. Duncan and linked his arms with hers. "Yeah, that's our Xavier. It's hard to talk to our boy sometimes."
Xavier came up to us with two boys and a girl; they must be his sister and brothers. They all have dark hair, green eyes, and olive skin. I saw that one of them is wearing a prosthetic leg. Nate started to stare at the boy with the prosthetic leg.
"What're you guys talking about?" Xavier asked.
"Mostly about you," Mr. Duncan said.
Xavier rolled his eyes. "Thanks, Dad."
"No problem, son."
Nate is still staring at the boy with the prosthetic leg. He has scars on his arms, a tattoo on his bicep, and is wearing a tank top and shorts. How the hell is he not cold?
Xavier noticed that Nate's staring at his brother and yelled, "Can you stop staring at my brother!"
Nate started to cry and hold onto Mom.
"Xavier Nolan Duncan!" his mom yelled at him.
"What? He was staring at Lucas!" Xavier said.
"That's okay, Xavier." Lucas bent down directly at Nate's face. "He's probably just curious about my leg, aren't you, little guy?"
Nate wiped his eyes and nodded his head.
"Well, I got into a really bad car accident a few years ago, and I had to get my leg amputated," Lucas said.
"What does amputated means?" Jacob asked.
"It means I got my leg cut off."
Mariah started to shiver.
"Cold, Mariah?" Mom asked.
"Yeah, sure," Mariah said. Liar.
"Now, Xavier, you apologized to this young man right now," his mom scolded him.
"Sorry," Xavier mumbled.
"Good. Now why don't you and Christopher go look for your friends?" Mrs. Duncan said.
Xavier nodded his head and he and I went to look for our friends. I noticed that Xavier's hands made a fist. He's probably still pissed about Nate looking at his brother's leg. I should probably bring something up to distract him from it.
"So I didn't expect to see you here at the football game."
Xavier looked at me. "Yeah, my brother Carson is on the varsity team." He pointed to the team. "He's the one wearing the number seventy jersey."
"What grade is he in?" I asked him.
"He's a sophomore. Oh, look there are our friends."
I saw our friends standing there with Michelle, Kalani, Sophia, the guy with the bangs over his eyes and...Brian? I thought he wasn't coming here-he must've changed his mind. They're also standing there with Mr. Franklin, a brunette haired woman, and two young boys and a young girl. They must be Emma's mom and brother and sister because they look like Emma, except Emma wears glasses like her dad.
Emma smiled when she saw us. "Hey, guys." She ran up to us and hugged Xavier. Xavier looks stunned, not knowing what to do at first, then hugs Emma. Emma lets go of him and smiles.
"Hey, Emma, where's my hug?" I teasingly asked her.
"Sorry." She gives me a quick hug. "Why don't you guys come hang out with us?"
"That's what were here for," I told her.
We walked with Emma where she was. Mr. Franklin looked at us and smiled. "Hiya, boys. Hope you're doing your homework for history, huh?"
"It's Friday," Xavier said.
"I know. I was just making a joke," Mr. Franklin said.
"That wasn't even funny, Dad," one of his sons said.
"I know, Liam."
"So, Tristan's on the team, huh?" I asked.
"Yeah, so is Malcolm and Jarrod," Danielle muttered under her breath.
"Really?"
"Yeah, but that's fine. Malcolm's not that good anyway," Austen said. "Oh, look the game is starting."
The game started when our team kicked the ball. I noticed I've never seen some of the players on our team before. "Hey, how come I've never seen some of the guys at our school?" I asked.
"Oh, they don't go to our school. They go to Red Lake Falls," Michelle said.
"Wait, so our team are the boys from our school and from Red Lake Falls?"
They all nodded their heads.
"Huh." The first half of the game is so boring, and so is the second one. The game is still 0-0. My mom always complains about football, and I can totally see why.
I felt someone put their hands on my hips and slide them around my waist and whispered into my ear, "So what do you think of the game so far?"
I turned to see Brian standing there. I recognize he's wearing all black. "It's kind of boring," I admitted.
"Yeah, well, that's football. We're going to get something to eat at the concession stand. You coming?"
"But I don't have any money."
"Don't worry. I'll buy something for you."
"Thanks, Brian."
He smiled before putting his arm around my waist and we both walked together to the concession stand. He whispered into my ear, "That's a nice hoodie you're wearing by the way. It looks great on you."
"Huh?" I looked down to see that I'm wearing an *NSYNC hoodie. "Oh, yeah, I love these guys. And the Backstreet Boys."
"So does my mom," he grinned.
When we got to the concession stand, Brian lets go of me and asked, "What do you want?"
I told him a Coke and a hot dog and he got himself a hamburger and a bottle of water. Just as we all got our drinks and food and started to walk back to Emma's family, I heard somebody yell, "Brian!"
We all turned to see Gabriella running to us with Ramona behind her. Great. What does she want now?
Gabriella slowed down and smiled. "Hey, Brian."
"What do you want, Gabriella?" he asked her.
"I want to know if you want to hang out with me and Ramona," she said.
"No way," he answered her.
"Oh, why not? I'm pretty sure you want hang out with me and Ramona instead of these boring losers."
Oh my God, I want to punch her in the damn face.
"Thanks, but no thanks," Brian said.
"But, Brian-" she started to say.
"I said no!" he snapped at her.
People who are standing by us started to stare at us.
"Fine! Be that way!" She turned and stormed off into the other direction. Ramona gave Brian an apologetic smile before following Gabriella.
"So she was getting flirty with you there, wasn't she?" I asked Brian.
"What? You thought she was hitting on me?" Brian started to laugh.
"Well, it looks like she was."
"She wasn't hitting on Brian. She just wants to hang out with him just to piss Malcolm off," Layla said.
"How would you know?" I asked her. We all started to walk away from the crowd.
"I overheard her telling Ramona once."
"Oh," is all I managed to say.
"Yeah, and besides, she wouldn't hit on Brian because she's knows he gay," Spencer said.
"Spencer!" Sophia yelled at him.
"Oops." Spencer covered his mouth.
I looked at Brian. Oh my God. Brian's gay? I guess I could've figured it out the way he was touching me in the library today. Does it mean I have a chance with him?
"Why would you tell him that?" Michelle asked.
"I thought it was okay to tell him since everybody knows already," Spencer said.
"Well, Brian's the one who should tell him," Kalani said.
"I know. I'm sorry okay?"
"Besides, Chris, why do you care if my sister is hitting on Brian. Do you have feelings for her?" Layla asked with a laugh.
"Oh no, I'm not into girls. I'm gay."
Everybody stopped walking and they all looked me with wide eyes and opened mouths. Oh, shit. Did I just accidentally told these guys I'm gay?
