Stargleam wanted to run back to the camp, but she walked slowly back, swiping at a tree root that was blocking her path.
"Jayfeather!" Stargleam yowled. "I think I'm expecting kits!"
Jayfeather sighed. He pointed at a moss ness next to a pile of catmint and poppy seeds.
"Lie down here." The tom purred.
Jayfeather gently put his paw on the she-cat's belly. Jayfeather poked a kit.
"Ouch!" Stargleam hissed.
Jayfeather looked stunned. "Those are definitely kits. They look like they are going to be coming in a few days!"
Stargleam's almost-closed eyes shot open. "A few days? How did I not know I was expecting before this?"
Jayfeather just shook his head. "Who's your mate?"
Stargleam froze. It was as if her blood had turned to ice. "How do I say this? It's-It's Jazzsong."
Jazzsong, who has just walked over, was shocked. Her eyes widened. It was as if they were about to fall out.
"What? But why?" Jazzsong asked.
"I know. But... I love you!" Stargleam said.
