The elves were kind enough to feed the dwarfs and let them stay in Rivendell as long as they needed. Thorin wanted to leave as soon as he saw Elrond but Gandalf somehow convinced him it would be better to stay here for a while. 'We've already stopped at the human town for too long, we can't risk any more delay' Thorin growled. Gandalf sighed and looked at the dwarf in annoyance. 'We have a map we can't read. We need to know what it says, lord Elrond may help with that.' You had placed your hand on Thorin's shoulder and gave him a weak smile when he looked at you. He huffed. 'Alright then. But we won't stay here longer then one day.' Gandalf smiled, pleased with how it all turned out for his benefit.
So here you were, enjoying the sun in Rivendell and wandering around the place with Bilbo. Of course you and Bilbo weren't alone. Thorin wouldn't let you out of his sight. And if, for some weird reason, you wanted to see this dump he decided he had to go with you to keep you safe. He would snort when you or the hobbit appreciated the art or show your admiration for the food but you didn't pay attention to him. It was nice to be with Thorin but you had also wanted to see Rivendell. And now, you finally had the chance to do so. Bilbo wandered off to the statue with the broken sword while you went the other way. 'Don't you think this place is beautiful?' you said in awe. Behind you Thorin looked at you with a weird face. 'You only think this place is beautiful because you haven't seen Erebor yet.'
You smile when you notice a large door across the pond. Curious to find out where it might lead to, you walk over the small bridge and place your hand on the handle of the door. Slowly you push the door open and your mouth drops in awe when you see what it hid. There are hundreds and hundreds of shelves filled with books. The shelves reach as high as the ceiling and in front of the shelves are several piles of books. You take a few steps inside and just stare at the beauty of the library. There are a lot of books with elven titles but some are written in normal English. Thorin stares at you while he leans against a shelf. He has never seen you like this. There is a sparkle in your eyes when you stare at the books and smell the paper. 'I can give you this, but better, in Erebor' he says.
You turn around and raise an eyebrow. 'Don't you think this is incredible? I know you don't like the elves but you have to admit that this is fantastic.' Thorin looks grim and chooses not to answer your question. You turn around towards the big window and notice a big chair in front of it. Immediately you grab a book from a shelf and run towards the chair. With a nice jump you land on the chair and cuddle up to the pillows. This is what you always dreamed off. A library with so many books you would have more then enough books to read for the rest of your life. Thorin comes after you, staring lovingly at you as you're reading the book. 'What's it about?' he asks, genuinely interested. You frown and flip some pages. 'I don't know. I can't read elvish. But the drawings are nice' you say and smile at him.
He chuckles and sits down next to you, not sure how to sit down in a relaxing way. You put the book down next to you and pull his shoulders back against the pillows. He let's you, not sure what you're planning to do. You move to sit down between his legs, your back against his chest, and you get the book back and continue to read it. You can feel his chest rising as he laughs before he pulls you closer to his chest and starts braiding your hair. 'This is not the ideal angle to do this' he mutters. You shrug. 'That is not my problem.' 'Remind me, how could I fall in love with such a stubborn woman?' he jokes. You lay your head down on his chest and look up at him. 'You're calling me stubborn, Oakenshield? I can name one more person on this chair who might be even more stubborn then me.'
He pushes your head forwards, off of his chest and continues to braid your hair. 'Just read' he says. You laugh and look down at the book in your hands. 'Can you read elvish?' you ask without looking up from your book. 'You didn't think that one through, now did you?' he asks with a hint of sarcasm in his voice. 'No, not one bit.' You lay there for a few hours, just enjoying each other's company, and you enjoying the books as well. Thorin made two braids on either side of your head and pulled them back in a high pony tail. He got two silver beads from his pocket and braided them in your hair as well. 'Now you are truly mine' he states and wraps his arms around you. The door to the library bursts open and Bofur comes running in. 'Come quickly! She's running away!' he shouts.
Thorin shoots up behind you and you jump off the chair. The book falls down on the ground as the two of you run after Bofur.

'You can't leave! Are you crazy? You will be dead within mere minutes!' Dwalin yells at Kim. She points a sword at them, shaking her head violently. 'You are all nuts! This world isn't real! It just can't be' she yells with tears in her eyes. Dwalin puts his hands in the air and tries to take a few steps towards her. 'Azyungal, lower your sword, let me talk to you' he tries but she waves her sword at him. With her other hand she takes the reigns of her pony and pulls him closer to her. 'Kim?! What's going on?' you ask confused when you see the scene in front of you. 'NO! All of you, go back and leave me alone. I just want to wake up and leave this dream behind me. THIS IS NOT REAL (Y/N)!' she shouts at you. Thorin wraps one arm around you and stands in front of you.
'I know this is a lot to take in Kim. But you need to listen to me. This is real' Thorin tries but Kim just laughs. She jumps on her pony and Dwalin tries to take the reigns from her. He isn't prepared for what happens next. Kim swings her sword at him and ,accidentally, hit's him in the shoulder. She takes her chance and her pony takes her away from Rivendell. Away from Dwalin. Away from you. The Company just looks at Kim without trying to stop her from leaving. It angers you and before Thorin can stop you, you jump on a horse and follow her. '(Y/N)!' Thorin yells after you, but you don't listen to him. You have to get your friend back. You knew Kim thought this world wasn't real but she couldn't take the risk of getting hurt.
Two nights ago you had talked to her about everything that happened and she explained to you why she thought this world wasn't real. Maybe she was right, maybe you did live in a fantasy. But right now you wanted to live this fantasy. And what if she was wrong? What if this was real? All your dreams would come true if this was real. You were sure of it. 'KIM!' you yelled. You were now approaching a wide, open field and you could tell this was the wrong place to be right now. Kim turned her head and slowed her pony down. You stopped your horse a few meters away from her pony and looked at your friend. 'What happened?' you asked. She shook her head, tears were welling up in her eyes. 'I don't want to give my heart to him if he isn't real. I can't do that (y/n).'
You sigh. 'Kim, I don't know if this is real either but it does feel real. Isn't that enough? Do you know how deep Dwalin's feelings go for you? He is a dwarf, he will never love another! And if that is not real enough for you then I don't know what is' you said. She looks up at you, her tears slowly fading. '(Y/N)!' you hear Thorin yelling far behind you, just as you hear the first orc cry coming from your right. The Company is close by and form a circle around you and Kim when they notice the orcs who've surrounded them. Dwalin stands in front of Kim and Thorin stands in front of you, protecting you with their own bodies. 'Hold your ground!' Thorin yells. The orcs come closer. smiling from ear to ear. You stand behind Thorin as you can see the pale orc making his way through the orcs.
'It can't be' Thorin mutters as he watches his old enemy, who he thought was dead, making his way towards them. 'Attack!' he shouts and the dwarfs follow their leader, surprising the orcs with their sudden attack. You grab your sword and follow Thorin, fighting off orcs as you try to keep up with him. From a distance you can see Kim fighting for her life. One orc almost hits her in her chest, but Dwalin notices and stabs his own sword through the orcs heart. They stare at each other for a few seconds before they have to fight for their lives again. 'Lass! Keep close to me!' Thorin yells. You spin around and notice the distance that has built between the two of you. You swing your sword and try to make your way closer to Thorin, but it seems like the orcs are trying to keep you apart.
An orc comes closer to you, pushing you back while fighting with you. You have to duck a few times to prevent getting your head cut off but somehow you manage to kill the orc. '(Y/N)!' Kili yells, pointing at something behind you. You turn around and that's when you realize you won't live much longer. Azog comes walking towards you, a grimace on his face. He holds his huge axe in his hand and keeps looking straight in your eyes. Fili and Kili try to fight their way over to you but the orcs are stopping them, leaving enough room for you and Azog to be undisturbed. The white orcs takes one look at Thorin and he laughs. 'So you're the dwarf's heart?' he asks, looking at you with interest. 'NOOOO! It's me you want, not her!' Thorin yells. Two orcs grab his arms and try to hold him still, making him look at you and Azog.
'What would happen to him if you would die?' he says softly. You can feel your heart racing in your chest. A thousand ideas run through your mind, but you know you're not skilled enough to put these thoughts into practice. Without thinking you run forward with your sword raised and try to attack Azog with it, but he sees you coming and swings his axe at you. The force is overpowering and you land a few meters farther on your back. Azog smiles wickedly and you can hear the dwarfs yelling. You try to get up but Azog is too quick, pushing you down with his foot on your chest. 'Watch, Oakenshield, as I will kill the One you love, one by one.' You turn your head and meet Thorin's eyes. There is an emotion in there that you never thought you would see, he is scared.
Kili tries to shoot an arrow at Azog but he grabs it right before the arrow hits it's mark. 'Get ready to die, human' he says and raises his sword above your chest. You think back at the talk you had with Kim. If this was nothing more then a dream you would wake up within a few seconds. This whole world would be gone, just like Thorin and Azog. The sword comes down at your chest in slow motion, and you watch it slide into your chest. Someone screams but you can't tell who it is. The pain rushes over you and you try to scream, but there is no air left in your lungs to make a sound. The last thing you see is the wicked smile on Azog's face as he watches you taking your last breath.
