Chapter 11
Sophie
When I got home the same day, my mummy was proud of me. She made small concoction Jollof rice.
Right now, I was lying on the floor. It looked like it was 6am. Mama was in the bathroom and Olivia was getting dressed for work.
It has been 2 days into the mid term break and the word " bored" is an understatement. Olivia got a job at Chicken republic. It was a job as a cleaner but It was still something.
"Please nau. Let me come with you." I pleaded with her for the umpteenth time
"Come to do what? Cant you follow mummy to her shop? What are you even looking for in Chicken republic?" She said as she wore her black bandage skirt that she recently bought.
"Ahan nau! What do you expect me to be doing at home? Let me follow you. I can keep you company as you wash plate and clean"
"I said --"
She was cut off by the voice of our mum. "Kilosele? What is happening here?"
"Mummy, Olivia doesnt want me to follow her to work". I whined
"Olivia, why?" She asked turning to Olivia.
"But mummy, what is she looking for there nau?"
"And you expect her to stay at home alone? If i give you backhand slap." She eyed Olivia before turning to me. "Go and take your bath so you can go with your sister "
I got up from the floor and with a smile on my face, I undressed.
"Better choose cloth out of the ones I bought yesterday. At least, look sensible." She said, eyeing me
"Ehen. Olly olly. Give me this your top nau. It would go with my jean skirt!" My mum said with a smile on her face, her brows going up and down
"Oh mummy now...but--"
"But what? But what?? If i slap you eh. Ordinary top you are doing shakara." Mummy dragged the top from Olivia' s hand.
As she wore it, she blew kiss to Olivia. "Dont you want your mother to look fine ni? I love you"
She said and I bursted into laughter. The laughter didnt last as Olivia shot me a death stare.
Mummy was always like that. She was in her early thirties but she didn't want to grow old. Always rubbing powder and using lip gloss like a young girl.
"If you don't go and enter the bathroom, she would leave you." Mum said, applying her powder.

Nathan's pov
"Guy, give up!! 2-0!" I shouted and did a little dance. Today was the second day of mid term break and well, it has been fun.
I was in my bedroom playing MMA fighting game on my ps4, my bestfriend right next to me.
"It's just luck! It's my console! It's having problems!" He said examining his console.
"You are just a sore loser!" I said as my phone made a ding sound.
Dropping my console, I unplugged my phone where it was charging as I read the text sent by my sister.

Well, 2 days ago, Lily was diagnosed with Typhoid and Malaria. Now, she sends me useless texts to get her things.
"I'll be back!" I took Caleb,who was laser focus on his phone. I knew he wasn't talking to any girl cause he seems so interested in my sister.
I didn't bother knocking as I barged into her room. She had her eyes glued to the t.v.
"For a sick person, you are sure enjoying yourself!" I said as I sat on her bed
"Get off my bed! And don't you know how to knock?" She rolled her eyes.
"Oya I should go ni." I made to stand up but she held me back.
She pouted her lips and said, "Oya stay nau. Please." She begged and I smiled.
Mehn I loved being in control.
"What do you want? Why did you ask me to come here?" I made to take a handful of the popcorn on her laps but she slapped my hand away.
"Well, I am binge watching Riverdale. I am in Episode three. Vanessa---"
I cut off," I actually dont care about you are saying. Go straight to the point madam!"
She passed me a death glare before she continued," I am craving chicken. There's chicken republic nearby or so. I want the big bucket of chicken. Then when you are coming back, grab me a tub of ice cream from the freezer. Don't grab the chocolate--"
Again, I cut in. "You are kidding me! Aren't you sick? See mouth like chicken! Abeg jo." I got up and walked to the door.
"Please nauuu!" She said in a babyish voice. The voice that always gets to me. She knows that once she uses that voice, I am useless
It's so not easy being a big brother.
Turning back slowly, I didn't miss the satisfied smirk on her face.
Idiot!
"So, what do you want?" I asked making my way back to her bed

Sophie's pov
It was 3 in the afternoon and I knew I messed up. If i had known, I would have stayed home jejely.
Since I followed my sister,who was a worker, the doorman (a fat and lazy man) left his duty post for me.
In his words, "If i refuse to open doors while he goes out to stay with his friends, he would lie against my sister and she would be sacked"
For the past 2 hours, I have been opening door like an idiot. I have perceived different scents. Some good, some bad, some smelt like the soap in their various houses have finished.
Nigerians and body odour eh
"Aren't you going to open the door for me ni?" A familiar voice I hadn't heard in a couple of days said, interuppting my thoughts.
"What are you doing here?"
"This is a restaurant. They sell chicken. Does that answer your question?"
"Ahan! Sophie, you didn't tell me your friend is here o! I'm Olivia, Sophie's big sister!" She said with a smile.
"Hey! I am Nathaniel. Sophie's boyfriend"
"Ehnnn!" Olivia and I said in sync.
