“Sweetheart, wake up.” I heard my mom’s soft voice whisper in my ear, I only groaned in response “I have a surprise for you.” Oh, yeah. Today I was officially 18. Today was my birthday! “Put on some clothes and come downstairs.” she said before shutting the door behind her, I stretched in bed a couple times until I eventually decided to get up and change, I brushed through the tangles of my hair, leaving it at it’s natural state, I put on some simple white shorts and a black top with slits at the bottom and my black gladiator sandals, I put on barely any makeup before I finally made my way downstairs and was met wit the delicious smell that was my mother’s pancakes I smiled at the smell and sauntered into the kitchen and was greeted with various pairs of arms tackling me into a hug, making me stumble and fall onto the ground, along with them.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” Three voices echoed, earning a laugh that erupted from my chest, I groaned since Ashley’s elbow was digging it’s way into my stomach, she got up and Chase stretched his hand out to me and helped me get up, I was again tackled in a hug by an excited Ashley
“Oh My God!” she said excitedly “What’s it feel like to be eighteen?!” she said as we walked over to the kitchen, I smiled at my mom and hugged her tightly, but was slightly disappointed when I didn’t see my dad in the kitchen. I was then engulfed in a bone crushing hug, followed by the strong scent of Axe and I recognised it as Jase, he was hugging me so tightly he managed to lift me off the floor so I was floating, I laughed into his shoulder as he shook my around in his arms
“Happy Birthday!” He said before kissing my cheek and joining Ashley’s side, I then felt a pair of arms wrap themselves around my waist and I instantly smiled.
“Happy Birthday, princess.” he whispered into my ear and pecked my lips quickly before smiling down at me, entwining our fingers together, he dragged me over to a stool and sat me down on his lap; my mother smiled at the sight as she handed us our food, I tried to feed Chase as a joke, but it resulted in many pancakes falling to the floor since he kept laughing.
“Open your presents!” Ashley said excitedly as she handed me a neatly wrapped box with a metallic bow, I thanked her and opened it, smiling at it’s contents. It was a collage of just the two of us, of various pictures we’d taken over the last couple of months. Even if I haven’t known them any longer than two months, I am so incredibly grateful for all of them “Do you like it?!” she beamed and I nodded eagerly as I hugged her tightly
“I love it!” I said as I handed it to my mom so she could set it on my room; I could decide where to put it later.
“My turn!” Jase said as he handed a box to me, it seemed like a box for a necklace. “I hope you like it; picked it out myself.” he winked and I laughed as I opened the box, it was indeed a necklace, and it was gorgeous!
“Oh My God, Jase!” I said with a smile as I hugged him “I love it, it’s beautiful!”
“My surprise I have for you is waiting outside.” Mom said as she motioned towards the door, I looked at her confused and got off of Chase’s lap and dragged him along with me, but he pulled me back to whisper in my ear
“I’ll give you my present later.” Jase sniggered
“Ooh, kinky.” he said as he playfully wiggled his eyebrows but clasped his hand over his mouth when he remembered my mom was in the other room; I laughed loudly and shook my head at him with a smile on my face; once we reached the porch I frowned since there was nothing different
“Wait five seconds.” My mom said as she beamed, five seconds later, a Volkswagen Beetle pulled into the driveway and my steps faltered that I had to hold onto Chase for support.
“YOU GOT ME A CAR?!” I shrieked with excitement but when I saw who got out of the car, I ran towards the person and tackled him in a hug “Dad.” I breathed as I wrapped my arms around his neck, he pulled me close as he chuckled
“Happy Birthday, baby girl.” he whispered into my ear and I smiled at the sound of his voice, I really did miss him so much when he went away “Oh, and this is yours.” he said as he handed me the keys to the car; I squealed and hugged him again, he laughed loudly along with my mom, once I untangled myself from my dads’ grip, he went over and kissed my mom and then turned to the porch and his eyes popped open in surprise “Who do we have here?” he said as he walked up to the porch, Ashley and Jase introduced themselves to my dad with no problem. Chase however, was stiff as a brick, it was quite funny actually. My mom whispered something in my dads’ ear, his eyes opened for a couple seconds before narrowing in the slightest and clasping his hand around Chase’s, greeting him. I stifled a giggle at Chase’s flustered expression, I wrapped my hand around his arm and he looked down at me and smiled softly
“Your dads’ got a strong grip there.” he said as he clenched and unclenched his hand, I giggled as I took his hand in mine, smiling up at him
“He’ll warm up to you,” I whispered “don’t worry, yet.” I giggled as I started to walk away, but he pulled me back and kissed my forehead, I leaned my head on his chest, lingering there for a moment, sighing in content. Now, everything was perfect.

After about three hours of eating like crazy, and playing various games, we would always team up, in pairs of course (you can imagine how those were organised); Ashley, Jase, Chase and I were on my backyard just talking nonsense while my mom and dad stayed inside to talk business or just catch up, but I thought it’d be best to leave them alone for a little, even though I knew I would get 20 questions about Chase and my sudden group of friends from my dad, but I didn’t mind, he needed some explaining anyway,
“Chase, don’t be a cheap Romeo and give the poor girl her present already, I’m sure her and Ashley are just dying to know what it is!” Jase said dramatically, Ashley looked at Jase in shock
“He knows?!” she shrieked, Jase grinned triumphantly while Chase smiled innocently
“While you two argue, I’ll just go give Ava her present.” Chase said as he untangled my hands from his as I got up from the chair and started walking but he quickly entwined our hands again, we could hear the faint argue of Jase and Ashley in the background, but it didn’t matter; it was cute.
“So?” I said as I bit my bottom lip nervously, he chuckled as he rubbed the back of his neck
“You only have to wear it if you want.” he said and I frowned, why would I now want to wear clothes? HELLO!
“Okay…” I said as I chuckled, still confused as he handed me a box, before ripping it open, I read the little card
“For my good luck charm. Happy Birthday, princess. x” Good luck charm? Okay, then; I was even more excited now. I grabbed the box from his hands and opened the box and gaped once I saw it’s contents…
“Y-Your football jersey?” I stuttered “W-What?” I gasped
“Not exactly; I still have mine, yours is just a copy of mine with my name on the back.” I grasped it in my hands and touched the soft material in awe, this was so sweet! “But there’s a catch if you want to wear it.” he said nervously, I eyed him warily as I folded the shirt and put it back in it’s box, setting in down on the bench beside us; I really don't know why we hadn’t sat down, but oh well…
“What’s the catch?” I asked and he put his hands in his pockets as he glanced at the ground and then back at me with a nervous smile. What the heck was going on? I glanced at my right and saw Ashley and Jase were done arguing and were now staring at us intently. A little too intently for my liking.
“My girlfriend has to wear it at every single one of my games for the rest of the season.” he said and I nearly choked on nothing. Did he just…?
“W-What?” I stuttered, my hands were now shaky and I started to feel clammy. He took a hold of my shaky hands and whispered softly
“Ava Grace Williams; will you do me the honour of wearing my jersey by being my girlfriend?” he said and I gasped. This was really happening. he was asking me to be his girlfriend. Oh My God. WHAT DO I DO? Wait, what am I talking about? How about you start by answering first?!
“Yes.” I said and soon enough I felt his strong arms wrap around my waist as he pulled me into a kiss; once we pulled away, he spun me around in his arms as I wrapped my arms around his neck as he held me close, I heard the faint cheers from Ashley and Jase, so I assumed they already knew the plan, or Jase told Ashley. Correction, NOW everything was perfect.
