I randomly wake up from the sound of my phone ringing. Fuck. It's 8:30pm.
Detention was only 30 minutes long. It wasn't bad but I still considered cancelling with josh only because I knew I'd be drained for the day and I still have a project to do with someone.
It's Melanie Von Hansen, my literature partner.
"Leia are you busy right now? I hope you're not, I just wanted to know if you want to start the project now"
"Hi Mel, I just woke up from a nap" I answer while constantly blinking to wake myself up.
I'm hungry. Like really hungry. I didn't eat anything after coming home because I was so tired. I still am. Mom and dad probably tried waking me up for dinner but I was really passed out.
"Oh I'm so sorry"
"No no it's fine, uhm we can start it"
"I just don't want to procrastinate, I know you don't either" she speaks.
"Yeah, can you ft me instead so it's easier"
"Sure"
I set my phone on my desk and tie my hair in a messy bun.
"Can you hold on a sec, I'll just get something to eat. Sorry for looking bad btw" I mention .
"No, it's perfectly fine" she assures me.
I quickly go to the kitchen to grab the leftovers mom set aside for me.
"Mel you still there?"
"I'm still here" she replies.
"Oh okay okay"
"So what were we supposed to do again? I'm kinda still trying to process everything right now"
"So we have to come up with a dialogue containing 2 of the following themes: hatred, death, love, power, survival , and prejudice." She finishes.
"That shouldn't be hard"
"Oh and it has to last atleast more than 5 minutes less than 10. We're also doing it infront of the class too" she adds.
"Oh. Well it's fine, we got this. Do you have any ideas for this in mind already?"
"Well I was thinking death and love"
I hum in response to her ideas.
"And this is due when by the way"
"Next Wednesday" she responds.
"Oh right"
I hum in response to her ideas.
"Okay so what if someone had to relive the same day where their family member or lover dies and they have to bare w the pain and the loss of the person. They love that person too much to forget about them and let them go. But eventually they learn to do so and the day goes on instead of reseting?"
"Actually I like that idea. What if we make it a lover instead. The other is a friend that helps cope with the loss. Convinces the other person to let go instead of holding back. I hope that we don't get to cry. Do we need to cry? Should we cry?" I ask Mel.
"Well, I think we should since it'll show emotion in what we're trying to portray."
"You're right. Who's gonna be who though?"
"If it's okay with you to be the person who's hurting and all."
"Uh sure. By the way do you know when we can both practice for this?"
"Well right now we focus on the script and then once we get it done we memorize our parts. We can practice during lunch and after schooner week"
"That works"
"I heard that your cousin is in the city so you most probably be busy."
"Yeah actually, I'm so sorry if we won't have so much time to practice" I try apologizing.
"It's totally fine"
We continue to write the script and brainstorm everything in the process.
A FaceTime call from Josh pops up.
"Hey Mel I have to answer this ft call, it'll be quick"
"It's fine, go answer it boo"
"Hi babes" he talks.
"Hey, I was in the middle of working on a project" I mention.
"Oh shit. I'm sorry" he apologizes.
"It's fine, I forgot you wanted to facetime. I thought you wanted to before I go to sleep"
"Oh, well change of plans. So babes go outside"
"What?" I question.
I'm so confused
"Just come outside" he repeats.
"Why?"
It's 8pm right now
"Babes just do it, you won't die I promise" he reassures me.
I put on a hoodie before asking him about his whereabouts.
"Where are you Jo?" I ask him while I make my way to the front door.
"Stop asking questions" he chuckles.
I open my front door to see him standing infront of me.
I can't help but leave my mouth wide open.
"What are you doing here?" I ask while he pulls me into a hug.
It's only been a day but I miss his hugs. And I needed this after today.
"Well I stopped by" he mentions.
"Uhm how?"
"Sources"
"I also have bubble tea for you" he says handing me the bubble tea.
"You got me matcha bubble tea" he says with me.
"Yeah, I know. Sources" he adds.
"You're literally the sweetest" I smile.
"That's because I'm Joshua-"
"Taylor Bassett, I know babes" I finish."So what's up?" I ask while taking a sip.
"Oh nothing, I guess I kinda missed you"
"Awwh I missed you too"
"Do you wanna come inside by the way?" I ask.
"Oh I'm fine"
"Are you sure? It's kind a cold"
"I'm fine babes"
"If you say so"
"I also figured you had some type of metal boba straw" he mentions.
"Of course I do, sustainability Bassett"
"So how was your day?"
"Kinda shitty obviously" I frown.
"Tell me about it, I won't stay for too long though"
"I fell asleep in detention"
"You?"
"We did the karaoke today"
"That must've been fun"
"It was, but it would've been even better with you" he mentions trying to make me feel better.
"Awwh. Gosh when I got home I was soooo tired so I took a nap but I didn't know I'd end up waking up at this time"
"Come here" he speaks up.
I place the bubble tea on the window sill by the door and make my way to him, he pulls me into a hug and I wrap my arms around his body. His jacket engulfing me together with his arms.
"I'm sorry about today" I apologize again.
"Stop apologizing babes it's fine" he replies.
"I've been all over the place today"
"It's fine"
"So what's the real reason you're here" I ask him while still in his arms.
"Damn you got me. I came by to ask if youd want to go on a date with me on Friday"
I look up to meet his eyes. Tell me why they look like they're sparking.

"You came here just to ask me on another date?"
"Hmmm. I did. I did come here to ask you on another date"
"Awwh well then. Of course I'll go on a date with you. Any day." I reply.
"Well then-"
"HEY JOSH DID YOU ALREADY ASK HER ON ANOTHER DATE" we hear Liv yell out from the parked van a few houses away.
"LIV?" I yell out.
"HI, YOURE WELCOME BY THE WAY" she says.
Everyone sticks their heads out of the SUV and says hi to me.
"You thought you were slick huh Bassett?" I grin."No wonder you knew one of my to go to orders and where I live you stalker" I add.
"I mean, then how else would I get you bubble tea and be standing here with you right now?"
"I feel like a dummy" I pout.
"It's all good"
"I think I have to go now" he adds.
"Oh right, it's getting late. Not really but I know." I frown.
"I'll be seeing you tomorrow though" he smiles.
"Oh yeah, I will"
"Don't worry about FaceTime tonight okay?"
"Yeah, goodnight Jo"
"Goodnight babes" he says before pulling me into one last hug.
I watch him walk and get into the van before I grab my bubble tea and a straw.
