✎ᝰ┆As you probably already know, this is a soulmate au (tip: Au means alternate universe or another universe) The trope I'll be using is: having the first word your Soulmate says to you tattooed somewhere on your body. Aka a soul mark
Eg: A person could have "can I have your number?" written on her arm. Her response, which for this example would be: "no, you freak" would be tattooed somewhere on said soulmate's body. We'll just say it's on their foot. So their whole lives they'll be waiting to hear a specific sentence in order to realize who their Soulmate is.
If a person is separated from their Soulmate for too long, by breaks ups or divorce their tattoo will start to fade and eventually disappear. The only way for that person to find love again is to date someone else who hast lost their tatoo. In this day and age there are dating apps to help locate and date potential people who no longer have a soulmate.
Now you might be wondering if they're soulmate's why did they separate? Aren't they soulmates?
In most cases people's soulmates die or go missing which makes them loose their loved one. But in rare cases the pair just can't make it work and they stop seeing each other.
One possible solution to this weird phenomenon is that soulmates are paired together because their atoms were near each other when the universe was created, which gives those atoms a kind of soul connection. When people don't work, it is hypothesised to be because the universe accidently paired two pairs of atoms that were too far from each other to have a strong enough connection for them to love each other.
