I awaken smelling the fresh linen of new sheets, cold pillows, sterile room, and the beeping of a monitor.
All of my friends were around me, my mom and dad.. including Danny..
He scratches his head as I stare at him hiding all of my emotions. He walks up to me a cradles my face softly since it's sore, "I thought I lost you." As I searched his eyes I seen sincerity, fear, and so much love.
But I ignore it.. I need to know why he treated me the way he did. I push his hands away. "Babe?" I sit up slowly, "No Daniel. Not until you tell me how you could treat me so cruel but you "Love" me.. the moment you asked to be my boyfriend you signed up to become my body gaurd, care taker, best friend, lover.. you make me spend all of my time with you.. you're the one that never leaves my side. So I don't suffocate you.. I let you love me."
I couldn't control the tears. Everyone took a hint and left. "So Daniel.. what's your fucking problem? What could be so bad that you would ever hurt me like you did today?"
"I had a sister.. and she died on this day.. it's always been a hard day for me.. you're the only person that cared for me like she did and I'm so afraid of losing you that I push you away like you did to me."
He runs a hand through his shaggy hair, "There's more to tell you but I'll wait until you're out of the hospital. Until I'll sat in bed with you.. and I don't care what you say."
He slips in beside me and carefully holds me, "I'm so sorry princess.. I love you to where my heart explodes more than stars. I really thought I lost you.. the only good person in my life. I'll never treat you like that again baby. I'm so sorry.."
He started crying lightly at the end.. for the first time I've seen him as the vulnerable little boy he is.. my little baby. I snuggle deeply into his chest and kiss it, "It's okay Danny, I love you also babe."
"You could be dead because of how I treated you.. I just don't know how to handle someone that sees me to be perfect when I have flaws.."
I look at him and sit up to stare at him. "Daniel, sweetie.. I have flaws too.." I show him every cut I inflicted on myself and every bruise that has been handed to me from my mom, Lance, and Shepherd.
"I'm not perfect.. only sprinkled in gold to be able to give you so much love and for you to love me. And with you being abandoned at a certain age someone has to love you.. and I'm that someone. No other bitch but me. So that means Debra needs to completely fuck off. You can have other female friends but after that stunt you pulled today. You and the female need to know who the crap I am. So do some shit like that again. We're not breaking up.. we're fighting full on. And I'll push every single button you have."
His eyes got large and then he nodded, "Fine with me.. as long as we agree that we're not breaking up. I'm good. And to make this official.. I want to make a promise.." He pulls a ring of of his necklace that he never takes of.
"This is my sister. When she was um.. sick. In the note she left for me she told me to give this ring to girl that means the world to me.. just as much as she meant to me. If it doesn't fit we can get it resized.. that's no problem.."
"I want to promise you that I'll be there always. I'll take care of you. Love you.. I can't breath without you Maxxi. I'm not suffocating.. I'm getting use to the new atmosphere. I love you baby. I'll never leave and I'll hurt any and everyone that tries to hurt you. Baby will you let me make this promise to you?"
He grabs my ring finger and I nod my head yes excited about this. Before he slips it on he examines it, "I know it looks like a engagement ring.. it's real diamonds by the way. But as much as I would like to have you as my fiancé.." He smiles sheepishly and it's more like he's asking.
".. you can think if this as the step before the engagement.. the promise ring." I smiled, "As long as you're in my life.. this beautiful ring can mean anything. Just as long as we're together."
He slipped the ring on my finger and it fits perfectly (A/N there's a picture of the ring.)
He gazes at it, "Perfect.. you're perfect. I love you. I love you so much that words will never explain." He grabs me and pulls me into a kiss. The most passionate kiss ever. We were interrupted by the doctor and our friends and family.. including his parents.
"You're getting discharged Ms. Delano. You have no broken bones.. just bruised.. thank god you don't have a black eye. But you're all good.. just take the pain meds. Ice your face and the bruising will be gone."
As we get everything ready to go and put some clothes on me, A pair of Daniels sweats and one of his big tees. He grabs my hand and tells everyone that he's taking me home.
We get in the car and everything goes back to normal. We're singing and laughing. Kissing and hugging. But something was on my mind. Why am I just now figuring about his sister.. and why did she leave a death note behind?
"Babe..can we chat about your sister or are you not ready yet?" He stiffens but grabs my hand to relax himself. He keeps his eyes glued to the road, "You caught on. I don't like lying to you so when I can't tell you something I always try to leave hints. But the words won't come out.. to this day I'm in disbelief of the situation. And you take care and love me how she use to. And you use to do things she use to do.."
He rubs a old scar I gave to myself, "Maxxi, baby, If I lost you I don't know what I would do to myself.. I wouldn't breath. I wouldn't eat..you're my everything.."
He grabs my hand and plays with the ring on my engagement finger, "Though this is just a material.. this should tell you everyday.. every hour, minuet, and second that you are my everything." He smiles softly at me, "I love you."
I smile sheepishly, "I love you so much Danny." He smiles and cuts a corner, "Let me take you somewhere. I think I should tell you."
We keep driving until we're in the 'country' of southern California. We pull up at this house with a barn and horses, cows, and cute little pigs. I smile at him, "They're so cute. I want 'em." He smiles, "They use to be mine.. we use to live here. This is my grandparents house."
"My sister died 2 years before I started to live on my own. We were in our other house then. But in the beginning we lived here until I was 3.."
He pulls me over to a old tree that stands out more than the rest. He touched the base of the tree and sighed, "This.. This is where it happened. She came here after writing me a letter.. and she hung herself." I could feel his body language change by the tension in the atmosphere.
I reach out for him and he crashes his body into my chest trying to speak through sobbing, "Delilah left me Maxxi.. because of my parents. She just wanted to be herself and they wouldn't let her because that would make them "look bad."
"Lilah loved me more than anything.. but I'm so happy that you came along. I haven't felt love like this in a long time. I love you so much."
We lay in the grass together and I kiss his head. When he's done crying we get up and go to his car to leave. When we got to my house he got out with me. He put me on his back and we went inside giggling.
Lizzy threw her shoe at us, "Finally.. and Daniel if you act like that again I'll castrate you." Daniel chuckles lightly, "Okay Lizzy Maguire." Everyone laughs at that except Lizzy, "That was corny as hell."
We tell everyone goodnight and we go upstairs and lay in each others arms, "So your mom was at the hospital today.." He intersects or fingers, "Does your dad know yet?" I shake my head no. "Your parents were there also? What's up with that?"
He smiles, "They love you.. and we're starting to get along. My mom is planning our wedding." We both laugh, "Well I hope she knows we're jumping the broom."
He gives me a questioning look, "What why? You're Hispanic.." I look at him like he's crazy, "My mom is African American and Hispanic. I was raised around both heritages being raised by my mom. And my mom did it when she married my dad. And her dad did it and so on and so on. We're jumping the broom."
He smiles, "Then we're jumping the broom!" I smile and kiss him now realizing that we're talking about are soon future with each other in it.
