"Yang Kai," he heard her call out his name.
He opened his eyes.
Could it really be her?
He sat up abruptly in his bed and could see someone standing by his bedroom door. It was so dark he couldn't tell who it was. He waved his hand to light the candles on the table. The soft glow dimly illuminated the darkness. He could see her small form from across the room. It was really her. She was dressed in only her white sleeping robe as if she'd just woken up in the middle of the night and immediately came to see him. Her eyes seemed tired but her face was as lovely and alluring as he had last remembered.
He had not expected to see her in the Fang Xu Realm. It had been just a little over a thousand years since he'd last laid eyes on her. He still remembered how she looked up at him sweetly on the terrace that night of his father's birthday party. Her hair, flowing down, softly caressed the contours of her face. She had lit up in a wide smile when he said he had a gift for her.
He'd known her from when she was just a kit who would rough and tumble with him in her fox form. She loved his gifts. She had always been particularly cute to him, especially with her nine fox tails, fanning out playfully when she was excited, but as she matured, he couldn't help but be captivated by her undeniable beauty. He sighed softly as the images from the past flashed through his mind.
He could not remember the exact point in time when it happened, but eventually, he came to the conclusion that they were fated. Not only was there the good relationship between his father and the Fox Emperor, but there was also the fact that she had grown up before his eyes. She was always happy to see him and he knew how to make her smile. To him, the was destiny. She was his and it would be a perfect match. He would take her as his princess and bring her back to the Jiu Hua Mountains to spend the rest of her days with him.
He had been fixating on her and lusting after the maturing curves of her body for too long. That night on the terrace, he had decided he had waited long enough. Her intoxicating scent of peach blossoms and vanilla overwhelmed his senses and he longed to take her soft plush body into his arms. While he knew the alcohol was making him amorous and impulsive, even without the peach wine, he knew his self-control around her had been waning. When she eagerly nodded in agreement after he asked her to come to his room to see the gift he'd gotten her, he knew he couldn't wait anymore.
The truth was, he did have a gift, he had gotten her a coral bracelet from his most recent trip to the Western Sea. But when he stood behind her in his room as she was looking around trying to spot her gift, he could remember nothing else except how much he ached for her.
He released her hairpin to let all of her beautiful raven hair cascade down her back and he wrapped his arms around her tightly. She began struggling. He was regretful that he was so rough, but the sweet taste of the skin on her neck as he tore her pink robe down to expose her milky white shoulder, and the soft swell of her breasts, sent shockwaves through his body. He imagined his mouth and his tongue tasting and lavishing the most sensitive parts of her.
He was certain that If she would only submit to him, she'd see that he could pleasure her in every possible way, making her forever his. When she tried to bite him, the stain of his blood on her lips only made him want her more.
Now, seeing her before him in his room, his desires recollected the warmth he had felt radiating from her body that night. He climbed out of his bed and approached her.
"Feng Jiu, you came," he said breathlessly. "I haven't been able to stop thinking about you all these years. When I saw you earlier by the lake, I felt Fate had finally brought you back to me. You're even more beautiful than I remembered." His eyes devoured every inch of her, his breath became ragged with need as he stepped closer to her.
"I ... I ... came because I wanted to ask you why you did those things to me that night," her voice was soft and her eyes were hesitant and searching. He could see a glint of fear and anger. Seeing her so vulnerable before him just ignited the fire that was already growing within his loins.
He reached out, grabbed her slender waist and pulled her closer to him. He could feel her body tense under his touch. He ran his fingers through her hair and looked into her eyes.
"Don't you know how crazy you make me? I can't restrain myself. I won't restrain myself" he said hoarsely. "I need all of you. This time, don't fight me." His hands grabbed a fistful of her long hair and gently pulled her head back raising her gaze to him, as he leaned down to harshly kiss her lips.
A blinding blue shimmering light enveloped them and suddenly he felt his lips on something hard and cold. His hand was holding onto someone's hair. He heard someone cough. His eyes flew open and he realized he could feel the vibration course through the throat his lips were attached to a man's throat. He released his lips and let go of the hair, staggered back many steps in complete panic. It was then that he saw a white-haired god towering before him surrounded by a magnificent pearlescent glow.
Could it be? Is this the former ruler of Heaven, the almighty Dong Hua Dijun? But how? Why was he here? And where was Feng Jiu; he was just with her a moment ago.
Dong Hua stood there looking at the poor fool who seemed to be questioning his own sanity. The ancient god slowly wiped off the saliva still on his throat with the back of his sleeve. He thought to himself that he'd need to tell Xiao Bai how he'd expertly learned from her and his acting skills had indeed improved.
He gazed down on Yang Kai who he knew had most likely soiled his pants at this point.
"Duh....Duh.... Dong Hua Di..Di.Dijun!" the poor fool sputtered out and bowed deeply to the former Heavenly Emperor. Yang Kai's hands were shaking and almost convulsing at this point.
"I.. I.. I did not mean to offend Your Majesty. I don't know what happened. I was just here with Feng Jiu a moment ago." He was still kneeling on the floor and began frantically looking around his room searching for her.
"So, you do still have impure thoughts towards her. It is her Imperial Highness you've offended. And while you have known her for some time, you have lost the right to refer to her in such a casual manner," Dong Hua replied expressionlessly and matter-of-factly. He took another step towards the cowering Yang Kai.
"A gentleman always practices restraint, and you apparently, are no gentleman."
Dong Hua took another step closer to Yang Kai, towering over him and said "and if I may so myself... your seduction skills are........ poor." Dong Hua gave him a mock frown.
"But, but.." he bumbled on.... "Feng Jiu came to me...." he gasped confusedly until the air in his windpipe was obstructed. In a split second, the almighty god knelt over Yang Kai with Cang He drawn out lengthwise at his throat. While Dong Hua held no expression on his face, his voice articulated the promise of violence.
"Say her name again, and my sword will smear your internal organs and your blood vessels all ... over... this ... mountain."
Yang Kai stopped breathing for a moment before Dong Hua casually stood up and returned Cang He into its sheath. Yang Kai started hyperventilating and grasping at his throat, he looked down to see blood on his fingers. The perfect small cut was only a warning.
With a wave of his hand, Dong Hua transported them to another dimensional plane. It looked like they were in the middle of the Milky Way as Yang Kai could see the twinkling shimmer of stars in the distance, lighting up the hazy purple and blue darkness that enveloped them.
As Dong Hua was still holding Cang He behind him, he waved his hand again and a magnificent white Snow Lion appeared before him. The Snow Lion bowed deeply and came to stand by his master's side. The almighty god affectionately stroked the beast's furry head.
He leaned down and addressed his spiritual beast.
"This person has badly hurt someone I deeply care about. I need you to teach him a lesson. Terrify him, but don't kill him. Make sure you injure his head and make him bleed while you tear at his clothes. Make him know what it feels like to be ignored when he begs you to stop, alright?"
The Snow Lion roared in acknowledgement at receiving his orders. Dong Hua patted the beast and looked down at him. "Good, now make it so."
Dong Hua waved his hand and conjured a large energetic cage made of white light that now imprisoned Yang Kai as the Snow Lion growled and paced around him menacingly. Dong Hua could hear Yang Kai's blood curdling cries. With a wave of his hand, the almighty god had conjured a table, cushion, and tea set outside of the cage. Stoned-faced and snail-paced, Dong Hua leisurely sipped his favorite tea as Yang Kai was thrown from one side of the cage to another, begging the unrivaled god for mercy.
Dong Hua closed his eyes and effortlessly extracted Yang Kai's early memories of the little highness.
You have betrayed her trust. You no longer deserve to be the keeper of these memories.
Dong Hua smiled lightly as he gazed into the images of a younger Xiao Bai now in his own mind.
Dong Hua sat enjoying his new memories of his little fox with a far away look on his face. He regretted not taking the many chances he had to visit Bai Zhi in Qing Qiu over the years. The screams of his Snow Lion's prey interrupted his thoughts. He suddenly realized he had another directive for his loyal companion and enforcer.
"Sterilize him. You may do that in however way you wish." The beast roared back in acknowledgement of his master's instructions.
Dong Hua smiled and sat like this for what seemed like half a day.
It was time to get back to his little fox. He'd hope she was able to get some good rest. She had been through so much in such a short period of time. When he unhurriedly stood up from his tea, he noticed he no longer heard any screaming. When he looked into the cage, he could see his Snow Lion was bored and leisurely licking its paws.
In the corner, Yang Kai was barely conscious and huddled in a bloody mess. Parts of his clothes were so torn, it allowed Dong Hua to see that his Snow Lion had outdone himself when it came to the sterilization process. Dong Hua took pity on Yang Kai and conjured a bandage and a new pair of pants for him. He would leave the rest of Yang Kai's fate up to Xiao Bai.

When she opened her eyes, she wasn't quite sure where she was. Her whole body seemed to ache. She couldn't remember what she did the previous night to make her feel so sore. Did she have a nightmare? She felt like she had been fighting off one hundred attackers in her sleep. As she tried to sit up, the old bear rushed over to help her up.
"Aiya, little highness let me help," he said as he supported her arm and back. As she sat up and looked back at him, she smiled, and sat there still bewildered at what had happened last night.
"Lord Mung Su, what happened and why are you here?"
He sighed. "You weren't feeling well last night. Dijun had to leave to take care of something but wanted me to stay by your side to look after you. Here, let me go get the medicinal soup Dijun had left. I told the servants to heat it up. Let me check on it. Stay right here," as he tapped his hand on the bed. She nodded obediently. She did not see that before he left, he threw a protection barrier over her room.
As he shuffled off, Feng Jiu tried to remember what had happened the day before. She remembered that they went to eat at the restaurant and she and Dijun even pretended to be a couple to make the waitress mad. She smiled at this memory. And then she remembered them walking home. The sun was setting and it casted a magnificent dark orange glow on the lake. She had bought the old bear and her some glazed hawthorn berries on a stick.
Then... then?
Her heart sank. In a split second, everything came back to her. Her heart started beating faster as Yang Kai's face flashed to the surface of her mind.
The memories of what he did to her flooded in. She pulled at her blanket, clutching it closer over her body.
Then Dijun ...
She remembered him in the room with her as she told him everything.
I told him everything, she shut her eyes in shame.
She felt a lump forming in her throat. Then the image of her holding onto his hair came to her. The scent of sandalwood filled her nose as if she could smell it again. The memory of just the scent seemed to calm her. She remembered the feel of his cold large hand gently holding her foot. He had told her it wasn't her fault. He had told her he'd protect her and wouldn't let anything like that happen to her again. The lump in her throat dissolved and was replaced with a comforting warmth.
She smiled softly. She felt a wave of sadness slowly flow over her and descend. But, it wasn't a bad sadness. What was it, she wondered.
The moment of realization illuminated like a candle being lit. She would finally have the chance to grieve for every heartbreaking moment she had had to bury over the past thousand years. She could now start the process of feeling what she needed to feel and then she could hopefully let it go. She didn't have to run away from the pain of the past anymore.
She remembered Dijun allowing her to lie in his arms before drifting off to sleep while holding onto his hair. She had felt special lying there, looking up at his handsome face gazing down on her.
Am I special to him?
The stubborn need to know this answer bothered her.
We're friends, that was enough.
She was friends with the former emperor of everything. She realized that was already very good. This was when Lord Mung Su came in with her soup and she was glad for his return.
He sat next to her on the bed and started to stir the soup and blow on it so it could cool before he spooned it to her lips. She was grateful for this old bear. He was like family. He had been kind to her from the first day they met.
When she finished her soup he said in his gruff voice, "you know your little highness, in all the years that I've had the honor of serving His Majesty, I've never seen him prepare soup for anyone."
She blushed, she didn't know what to say to this, but secretly she felt happy.
"Oh, Lord Mung Su he's just repaying back a debt that's all," she said with a smile.
"Really? Tell me all about it!" roared the bear. Feng Jiu began comprehensively telling him the story of how she saved Dijun from the seductress at the restaurant. The bear had such a laughing fit he almost flung the empty bowl of soup across the room.
She noticed the bear cock his head to one side as if he was listening to something.
Mung Su, if the little highness is awake, bring her to the bridge to see me.
He then looked at Feng Jiu. "Dijun's back and he asked me to bring you to the bridge to see him."
"Oh. Okay."
As she moved the blanket off of her to sit and put her boots on, she was wondering what it could be. Where did he go? And what was at the bridge? When she stood up, she fully prepared to have to lean on the old bear but found herself surprisingly able to stand on her own without any difficulty. Any tiredness and soreness she had previously felt in her body was completely gone.
As if the old bear could read her mind, he nudged her softly with his elbow and winked. "Dijun's soup is the best," he said and chuckled.

When they arrived at the bridge, she saw Dijun standing looking very serious in his dark purple robe. She watched as he motioned for the old bear to leave them to which the bear bowed and magically disappeared.
The little fox princess suddenly felt very shy when she met his gaze. She felt like it took an eternity to cross the bridge to get over to where he was standing in the middle. She averted her eyes and stopped a few feet away from him. She didn't understand why she was feeling so weird around him all of a sudden.
It was as if she was meeting him for the very first time.
He could sense her hesitancy as she walked over to him. She barely made eye contact. He felt his heart drop, it was as if it was sinking into the water under the bridge. He wanted to reach out and lift her chin up so he could see her face but he felt like he didn't have the right to do that. Was this her hesitancy he was feeling, or what it his? He could no longer tell. He just knew that at that very moment, he felt she was a million li* away from him.
"Xiao Bai."
That was all it took for her to look up at him with that little smile that he become used to.
"Good morning, Dijun."
He studied her carefully but could not tell why she looked different to him. But she was undeniably different.
"Did you sleep well last night?"
Nodding, she bit her bottom lip and looked back at him. "Dijun, why are we here? Where did you go?"
"Xiao Bai, I have something for you." He conjured up a ragged bloody mess onto the bridge. It was Yang Kai.
She gasped. Dong Hua stood next to her as she peered over at him, bewildered at the sight.
"You did this to him??!" she asked as she pointed to Yang Kai and then to back to Dong Hua.
The almighty god threw both his hands up in the air as an expression of innocence. "I did not touch him," he emphatically replied. "If anything, he touched me," Dong Hua mumbled.
She looked at him with a confused look on her face.
Dong Hua then leaned over to her and whispered in his deep velvet voice, "he'll never hurt you again."
She looked up at him and tears started to surface in her eyes. His breath was caught in his throat and he felt his chest ache at seeing her tears.
"Thank you," she whispered.
And it was then that he knew it was a look of gratitude.
Her expression emboldened him and he touched her braid and took the end of it into his hand, rubbing his fingers softly over her woven hair. "I had some help," he whispered. "Do you want to meet my helper?"
She nodded eagerly.
Dong Hua summoned his Snow Lion onto the bridge.
Feng Jiu gasped in awe.
The little fox princess had never met a spiritual Snow Lion before. The Snow Lion walked up to her and offered a deep bow of respect. The magical beast was as tall as her. She leaned her head in and nestled her forehead into its head, greeting him with a nuzzle of her nose and then rubbing the side of her face into his.
"Thank you," she whispered to the beast and scratched behind his ear.
Dong Hua smiled as he watched them. He was glad his best fur friends were able to meet. He couldn't help but notice a ridiculous ache of jealousy arise, wishing he could switch places with the Snow Lion.
She knelt in front of Yang Kai pitying him. "Yang Kai, I liked and respected you like a brother. I wished you hadn't done those horrible things to me. You hurt me so badly," she said softy.
Yang Kai lowered his head in shame, unable to look at her. She noticed that there was a good deal of blood around his groin area. She looked up, realizing that Dong Hua was right next to her. She looked at him questioningly and he shook his head and just shrugged his shoulders up in befuddlement.
The little fox princess sighed and looked back over at Yang Kai. She rose up and looked back at Dong Hua who was standing closely by her.
"Xiao Bai, what happens to him next is up to you. I promise to honor and carry out everything that you decide."
Feng Jiu stood there thinking for some time until she looked down at Yang Kai.
"You never met me and Dong Hua Dijun. You were attacked by a wild beast and this is why you are so badly injured. Never tell anyone what you did to me."
Yang Kai nodded sullenly, still looking at the ground.
"Dijun, please erase his memories from when he attacked me. It makes my stomach turn to think of him seeing the images of me being violated by him. But leave the painful knowledge of what he did to me so he can repent and vow to never treat another person like that again. And please take ninety percent of his cultivation away. I want him to start over. It is my wish that as he starts to cultivate again so he can become a decent person, someone who the Jiu Hua Tribe can truly rely on and can be proud of, not this pitiful excuse for a second prince."
Dong Hua nodded.
Yang Kai crawled over to the little highness and kowtowed his head onto the ground. "I know Your Highness could have the almighty Dong Hua Dijun give me a terrorizing death this very moment, one that would destroy my primordial essence. I thank you for your mercy. I vow to do everything you say and if I do not, I will be struck with five bolts of lightning."
"Twenty," she replied firmly.
Dong Hua smiled to himself, that's my little fox.
"Yuh-Yes, Your Highness," he sputtered. Yang Kai raised his hand in the air and made his amended vow to the Heavens with Feng Jiu, Dong Hua, and the Snow Lion as his witnesses.
Dong Hua turned to her. "Xiao Bai, I'll take care of everything here. Why don't you go in and have breakfast with Lord Mung Su."
"Hurry, Dijun, I'll be waiting for you." She smiled sweetly at him. He gently let go of her braid and watched her cross the bridge and entered the house.
