Chapter 04

Sitting on the branch of a high tree, Suzana set her gaze in the northeastern direction. She removed her lips from the mouth piece of her saxophone and concluded. "The Clow... the seal on it has been broken."

She sensed the cards soar off to numerous of different locations, their presences vanishing quickly. "It seems that I have to wait a little longer to see a Clow Card in action."

A clock tocked in the background.

••••

Rhode glanced up from marking papers. Twirling the red ink pen with her right hand, a smile slowly crept on her face. "Seems like the story of Cardcaptor and Spell Caster will write its first chapters before the night departs." She glanced at the clock on her wall, seeing that it was only 5:25 pm.

••••

Eyelids lifted revealing azure blue eyes. "Ah, I have not felt the presence of the Clow Cards in a long time.... so nostalgic."

"Passengers, we will be landing in Tomoeda, Japan in the next five minutes."

He opened his cellphone, looking at the time.

•••••

Currently, the the doors of a music store were opened by young girl. She had no idea that her fate was intertwined with these cards. "Good evening! Excuse me, do you have the latest album of Suzana 'An' Croft?!"

'What a loud child!'

'Was she raised in a barn?'

'Did she run here?'

'Her hair is a mess and she's sweaty all over.'

Walking to the cashier that stood behind the counter, she closed her eyes awaiting his answer.

The cashier thought, 'seems like she really wants to buy that cd. How do I let her down that they're all sold out?'

"I see. You guys are all sold out as well. Thank you for your time and I apologize for disturbing you and the others." She bowed her head then made her way to the door.

'.... Huh? I didn't even answer her question yet.' He blinked somewhat confounded then watched as the girl who couldn't be older than nine years of age exit the establishment.

"That was the last store that sells her works." She murmured. She reached inside of her school's uniform skirt pocket to take out her MP3 player. She had to catch a crowded transportation -the bus- and did not need to hear the inner voices of everyone. Pulling out only her peach coloured wallet, she realized that she had left her MP3 player on her bed.

She sighed. Why was her luck so bad today? She had already missed the meet and greet. Then all the cds were sold out and now, she had left her MP3 player at home. The girl with dark bluish black hair couldn't deal with everyone's thoughts bombarding into her head to cause her get a terrible migraine or feel nauseous. The young girl decided to walk home on a path that little to no people took.

As a park came into sight, she heard a saxophone being played. She thought her ears were deceiving her. This saxophone sounded exactly like An's. Walking into the park, she saw a saxophone case leaning against the highest tree and up sitting on the highest branch of that tree was Suzana 'An' Croft.

Instead of disturbing the musician, she sat down on the swing and closed her eyes to listen. Ever since she first heard Suzana's music, it comforted her greatly back then. All the people who she had thought were her friends called her a freak .... a monster. And when she listened to her music, she could control her mind reading ability and not hear others' thoughts to a certain extent.

A little while later, the song came to a cessation.

Sensing someone on the side of her, she opened her electric blue eyes.

"Do you feel better?" Suzana inquired, tilting her head to the side with a soft smile.

Her blue eyes widened, surprised to see that Suzana was sitting on the swing besides her. She nodded head, "I-I feel much better."

"That's great then." Suzana pushed off on the swing, bringing herself a little higher into the air. "You seemed frustrated and unhappy mixed together into one."

Tears sprang to her eyes. "Yes, I was." The painful memories of her past played before her eyes.

A magenta handkerchief with white lilies outlining it appeared before her eyes. Suzana was in front of her holding the handkerchief. She accepted.

Suzana picked up her saxophone that rested in her case, "Cry. I'll play until you stop."

Hearing this caused Kano Misono to cry even harder.

When she was finished sobbing, Kano blushed. She couldn't believe that she cried in front of Suzana and she had made her handkerchief damp with tears and mucus. But Suzana playing with her saxophone as she had let everything out was just what she had needed. "Sorry for letting you see me in such an embarrassing state."

Suzana looked at her. "What's so embarrassing about feeling frustrated and sad then crying about it? Crying is a way to express one's emotions. And everyone has emotions. There is nothing you should be embarrassed about."

Kano's eyes grew large in magnitude, hearing this. This was the first time someone had ever told her that. "Thank you, Croft-san!"

The young sorceress in training smiled. "As long as you are feeling better. And you can call me An or An-chan."

Kano stood up. "I know of you but you don't know me. I am Kano Misono, fourth grader at Tomoeda Elementary. You can call me Kano-chan."

"Nice to meet you Kano-chan." She decided to properly introduce herself. "My name is Suzana Jacintha Croft. I usually go by the name 'An', but since I am in Japan as my mom said, it's 'An-chan'. I am nine years old."

Kano stared at Suzana.

"Um, is something wrong?"

"That profile chart was really right. You can really speak fluent Japanese without an American accent. Hey, is it true that you really can't speak Spanish but several other languages?"

Suzana's ears turned red. "Yes, that is true."

"Sorry for suddenly asking that. Even though you stuck with me as I cried."

"I understand. I know why you were curious about it." Suzana snapped her saxophone case closed. "What do you think about Tomoeda Elementary?"

"School?" Kano whispered, looking to the ground.

"You don't need to answer if you don't want to."

"I guess it's regular. The school curriculum is easy. But I don't know what to really say about the teachers and other students there..." She paused fiddling with her fingers. Then continued. "... since I don't really interact with them much."

The atmosphere suddenly went quiet.

'Does she think I'm weird because I don't interact with them?' Kano thought, subconsciously trying to hear the inner voice of Suzana. Then it took her three seconds to find out. 'I can't read her mind.'

Suzana was the first person besides her parents who's mind she couldn't read. And the only reason why she couldn't read her parents' minds was because .... they possessed the same ability as her. 'Could An-chan possibly be a mind reader?'

Kano wanted to ask, but she couldn't just pop out a crazy random question that like. And even if she was one, why would she have to answer her question?

"Oh, sorry for the long silence. I was trying to remember the curfew my mom had set. But it seems like you want to ask me another question."

"I don't know. You might find it freaky and think I am crazy."

Suzana giggled. "Everyone has different views on those two words. My view might not be the same as yours."

"Ok, here I go!" Kano stood. "Couldyoupossiblybeamindereader?" She closed her eyes, questioning quickly.

"I do have telepathy, but I really haven't really delved into that branch as of yet." Suzana answered.

"Sorry. I am a bit confused."

"Mind reading is a branch of telepathy. Usually if someone is a mind reader they could develop other branches of telepathy such as psychic communication, empathy, dream-walking, understanding and speaking all languages among with others." She briefly explained.

So that was why her mother magically seem to read and speak every language. She never did let her parents explain her ability because she hated it. Her thoughts went back to Suzana then about herself. 'Would I have easily and truthfully answer if I had a psychic ability? I would've probably said those things only exist on tv or in books. But she responded. And without hesitation.' She asked. "An-chan, why did you let me ask that question? Why did you answer?"

Suzana gazed up at the sky, seeing that it was getting dark. She started to swing again. "Because when you first came into this park, I sensed that you have a supernatural ability within you. Because I was planning on asking you to be my first human friend who is a female. Because since I want to be your friend, I don't want to pretend to be somebody who I am not- a regular person. If I tried to pretend that I was, only lies would be produced. People can get hurt by lies. And because you give off the feeling of a nice person." She turned her face to Kano, "these are all my reasons."

A large smile grew on Kano's face. "An-chan, you shouldn't answer questions about you having a supernatural ability or something like that. You might get taken advantage of. And it would be my honor to be your first female friend who is human."

"I wouldn't randomly do that. My empathy helps me to understand a person's characteristics or personality a bit. So, I know you're not a person who would take advantage of me." She clarified. Kano was the second person who she had revealed herself to.

"I see but still. You should be a little more cautious."

What Kano said reminded her of Cassidy. "I recall someone telling me something similar before."

"Well, that's good, then." Kano said. "An-chan, you said that you didn't want to be somebody you're not - a regular person. You don't make it seem like you only have telepathy. You have more abilities, don't you?" She deduced.

"I am sorry but I can't answer your question." Suzana apologized, bowing her head. " I have to be more cautious." She joked, winking.

Kano didn't say anything for the next few seconds. "Nice one, An-chan."

The two girls smiled then laughed.

••••

"I'm home." Suzana walked into the living room to see her mother doing yoga on a gym mat.

Rhode executed the yoga move that she was watching on the television. "Welcome back, An-chan. You're in a good mood."

"I made a new friend." Suzana said.

"That's lovely, honey." Rhode commented then casually changed to another subject. "And your interest about the Clow Cards has moved up a bit, hasn't it?" She hummed.

"Before I said I was somewhat intrigued, now I am intrigued." Suzana leaned on the wall, looking outside of the window.

"Just as I have inferred." Then Rhode remembered."Oh, Siri-kun was crying because you didn't wake him up, leaving him to sleep for the most of the day. Now he's all sulky."

Hearing that, Suzana discerned. "I can feel him from here. He was so happy when he was sleeping so I did not want to wake him up. Seems like I have made a mistake." Before she could even set foot in her room, a black wolf plush like toy flew straight towards her.

"An-sama!!!!!!" His soft body collided into Suzana's face and he clung to it. "You should have woken me up!!!"

"Yes, I should have Siri-kun. Forgive me." She spoke softly as if comforting a child and removed him from her face, gently patting his head.

"You will have to wake me up next time! And as an apology, I am only going to accept strawberry jello and crossword puzzle books!"

"More strawberry jello. New crossword puzzle books. Sure."

"I also saw a new kit of metal wire puzzles released by Daidouji Company."

Suzana giggled, finding Sirius cute. "Sure."

Rhode watched the two. 'I know my An-chan is a tad bit too patient and lenient. And understands why Siri-kun acts this way, but doesn't she have him too spoiled? Mommy worries for your future and how you will parent your children!!!'

If Suzana could have hear Rhode's thoughts, she would have replied like this. 'Mom, if buying strawberry jello, some crossword puzzle books and a new metal wire puzzle kit could make Siri-kun happy, then I would not mind. I know I am going to ten in several months, but aren't I a little too young for you to be worrying about my children. Mom, don't worry so much.'

••••

The air in Suzana's room was tranquil.

After dinner, a relaxing shower, and a chat with Kano over the house phone, Suzana's mechanical pencil was dashing on her music sheet notebook.

Sirius was laying on her bed while playing with his 10 x 10 rubiks cube.

Suddenly the tranquility was distributed when her windows clamorously slammed open and the wind made its entrance. Her music sheets danced into the air only to be brought down by gravity, onto the purple carpeted ground of her room.

Suzana stood up from her study desk, a smile slowly gracing her face. The white lily on her silver chain bracelet commenced to glow in a bright mixture of rainbow hues. A purplish pink (magenta) magic circle with numerous of perplexing script inscribed on it, illuminated brightly beneath her. "Mihi videtur particeps volantes! (My flying companion appear!)" Soon after a beam light shot to her left hand, her broomstick materializing.

••••

She held tightly onto the back of the gigantic azure blue bird -FLY- as it soared through the night sky. Wind pounded against her face, causing the brown hair that framed either side of her face to slap her cheeks.

"Wind become a binding chain-"
As Sakura chanted these words a golden magic circle with a large sun dominating the crescent moon surfaced underneath her. Reaching for WINDY, she threw the Clow Card. The brunette twirled the staff like a baton and finished. "-WINDY!" The nose of the staff hit the tarot like card and it glowed white in hue. The magic circle that had encircled Sakura radiated even more.

Unsealed from the form of its card, WINDY emerged. Starting with the bird's elongated neck, WINDY coiled around FLY as if she was a snake.

FLY loudly screeched and started to be force into landing by WINDY.

Sakura rolled from FLY's back and took this chance. "Return-"

But before she could complete her command, FLY screeched once more, louder than before. A magic black symbol that was the shape of a 'X' appeared on the bird's forehead.

••••

Cerberus who was a great distance away, eyes widened, feeling a familiar magical aura. "It couldn't be... this presence." His concern for Sakura grew even more intensely and he moved more quickly.

••••

At the same time, this magical symbol tremendously empowered FLY, allowing the bird to grow larger in magnitude and stronger, easily breaking from the constraints of WINDY.

The tables had turned in the blink of an eye.

"Oh no, WINDY!"

From the flapping of its wings, the air pressure forced the defeated WINDY to return to its card form and tossed Sakura high into the air as if she was hit by the gusts of a category 5 hurricane.
