Chapter 33: Hints
P R E S T O N C H A N C E R E Y N D A Y
I was driving to Alex's home, his parents were out at work and were only going to come back in the afternoon.
I pull up to his house and park in the driveway next to his car.
I then get a phone call from Aubrey.
"Hello?" I answer closing the door to my car and leaning on it.
"Hey Preston, just know that I'm going out now. Don't want you to throw a search party when you find me not there." I laugh and take off my sunglasses
"No problem pumpkin, I'll see you when I come back."
"Okay, Bye."
"Bye." she hung up but I still whispered to myself, " I love you."
I sigh and walk towards Alex's home, I knock but there's no reply. I turn the doorknob and I see it's open.
"Alex?" I shout closing the door behind me.
"Alex buddy? Where are you?" Still no reply.
I walk into the lounge and I see nobody, I walk into the kitchen and I see nobody.
"Alex?!" I look through the kitchen window to see if he's in his backyard, but no ones there.
I walk into his room and see him on the floor.
"What the fuck?! Alex!" I yell, turning him over and seeing him laying under a white powder.
"Fuck...fuck...fuck fuck fuck!" I yell kicking the bed.
I pull out my phone, but my hands were shaking and it was hard to type the number for the ambulance. I hope Alex is okay, I hope he's still breathing.
"Hello! My friend, he's had an overdose I need you to come over now! My friend he needs help."
"Okay sir, calm down we'll be there soon Just tell us where you are right now."
*** A Hour later ***
I'm waiting in the cold waiting room, to see if I can go and see my best friend again.
In comes an Aubrey in her crutches and helping her is Layla. I had called her to tell her that I was at the hospital, but I didn't want her to bring the cause if his overdose.
"Baby." She says and I hug her, as she balances on one foot.
"What happened?" Layla ask.
"Why do you fucking care. You do even love him!"
"Just because I didn't marry him doesn't mean I don't love him Preston. I love Hi. With all of my heart but..."
"But what Layla?" I'm livid at the point and just want to rip her head out. Love? You don't do that shit to someone you love.
"But I'm lesbian okay? I can't love him like that Preston and you need to understand that."
"You know what Layla...fuck you!"
Just then Alex's parents rush in the room and they went straight to me and bombarded me with questions.
"What happened to him?"
"Is he okay?"
"Any news about him?"
"Alex Ford?" A Doctor came out and he called us closer to him.
"I'm afraid to say that Alex took his last breaths on earth today." Alex's mother erupts in an earth shaking scream and Mr Ford pulls her into his arms as she sobs loudly. Tears went silently down my face.
"What happened to him?" Mr Ford asks.
"He had an overdose on an unknown substance. We are still doing tests to find out what it is exactly he had an unknown substance."
"Thank you." Aubrey said rubbing my arm.
My best friend just died today. The person I grew up with, since I was twelve. And it's all because of Layla'S fault.
I turn around to see her facial expression, in shock.
"You!" I scream stomping towards her.
Mr Ford stopped me and Aubrey stood in front of Layla.
"This is ALL YOUR FUCKING FAULT! IF YOU DIDN'T LEAVE HIM, FOR THIS LITTLE SLUT OF YOURS, MY BEST FRIEND WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN A CORPSE RIGHT NOW!" I fight against Mr Ford, but security comes in before I can even make it to her.
"Sir, I'm going to need to to calm down."
"I can't fucking calm down, now that my brother is dead okay?" Tears threaten to come down my face, and my voice cracks. I swallow hard and I continued speaking,
"My best friend, is dead. Do you understand that?" Mrs Fords cries could be heard from Mars.
"A son died today, a brother died today, a friend died today. Let me mourn in peace." I say and they all look at me.
I look at the doctor and ask him to send me to his room, as I take the long excruciating walk, I ponder on why he could've done this, anal the hints that's he'd dropped...
Flashback
"I'm sorry you guys came to see this shit show." He said before leaving the same way Layla left.
End of flashback
Hints that he was broken.
Flashback
"What do you want?" He rasped drinking his vodka down. He's hair, that was always his main priority, was now wet and hanging over his face. His green eyes that girls always admired were red and swollen.
His cheeks were tear stained, flushed and has a few bruises. His small pink lips, now purple and busted.
"What. The. Fuck happened to you?" I say.
He only smirked, "I experienced pain, physically and emotionally. She played me, it was not the other way around anymore."
End of flashback
Hints that he was hurting, we got the the door and saw him covered in a white blanket. And my heart stopped.
Flashback
"No, as days go by I'm just overdosed in my feelings. And I can't take it anymore."
End of flashback
He basically fucking told me, and I was dumb enough not to even notice. The doctor put his hand on my shoulder and smiled a tight smile.
"It gets better."
"What? Handling death?"
"Life." He walked away and I wiped my tears before I got in.
I hate crying, it makes me seem weak. I hate feeling week or inferior and it's all that I'm feeling right now.
I don't think I like the hospital that much. First it was Aubrey, I was so close to losing her and now it's Alex and I did fucking lose him.
I sit down on a chair and look at his motionless body.
"Alex why?" My voice cracks.
"Why the fuck would you do this?! Why would you Fucking leave me?! Why would you do this to yourself?" I sob and I put my head in my hands and cry hard.
After three long minutes, I feel a hand on my shoulder. I turn around to see Alex's parents.
"I'll give you guys some space," I say standing up and walking to the door, " I think I'm don't for the night."
I walk past everybody, Aubrey tries to slow me down and talk to me, but to be honest I'm not in the mood to talk about anything. She's gonna wanna make me talk.
"Preston, please speak to me." I stop in my tracks and stomp up to her. I kiss her forehead and hug her as she hugs me back.
"I just want to be left alone tonight."
"I understand." She says and I pull away, and kiss her lips passionately.
"I know you do pumpkin." My face is most probably, actually, most definitely flushed right now.

I walk out of the hospital and go to my apartment. And I drown myself in Alex's room.
I'm never gonna see him again...
This doesn't feel real.
I need to wake up, I don't believe that this is happing to me. It can't be happening to me.
Who's next, huh?
I hope nobody. I've spent way too many nights in the hospital. I think I've had enough now.
I look at his pictures that he has of him and I as newborn teenagers, I sob and I wipe my tears away.
I turn the photo down and pick up the next one, it's a picture of him in the pool with his mother as he kisses her cheek. Alex and his mother had a very good relationship.
"Why Lord. Why did I have to be the one, he was so young!" I sob kicking the dressers and punching the cupboards, breaking the mirror and screams in frustration.
"WHY?!" I cry on the floor.

A/n: Did anyone also cry? R.I.P to Alex King Ford, I didn't want it to end like this...but it did. I'm sorry 😭😭😭.
I'm literally so sad right now but the next chapter is gonna make me so much sadder, like oh em gee!
