All the Magic Knights were assembled with their squads once again as we awaited the main event. My hands shook as I looked down at the ballot.
Who should I vote for?
I take one more look at my surroundings, admiring all the wonderful costumes. Upon doing so, my eyes lock with him.
He's the one.
Smiling to myself, I place my vote and walk back to my squad.
Now, we wait.

Unknown Point of View:
If anyone is Queen, it should be her. I've never seen a costume look so radiant. The way her dress hugs her torso and flows down from her waist is spellbinding. By the looks of it, other knights are thinking the same. Her ballot is overflowing with votes. I feel a small pang in my chest at the thought of her having more admirers. But then again, who am I to have her all to myself?
King Julius announces that there are seven minutes remaining to cast our votes. I've already voted, of course. I wonder who she voted for.
Narrator's Point of View:
While the voting portion of the party is exciting and all, the following event is what many guests look forward to. After Julius crowns the King and Queen, they'll bring out the alcohol, smoke machines, loud music, and whatever else they can. Sounds a bit out of character for the Magic Knights, yes, but what can I say? These people love their off days.
But I'm getting too ahead of myself, so let's check in with the judges while we await the final results.
Marx's Point of View:
"King Julius, the votes are in. Our assistants are counting up the points as we speak."
"Excellent! Are the crowns ready?"
"Yes, sir. They've been polished and locked away."
"Well then, all we have to do now is wait."
To be honest, I've never been a fan of parties. They're always too noisy and they tend to leave a mess behind. Last year, this area was cluttered with party decorations and reeked of booze. Captain Yami and Captain Jack even ended up in a drunken fight to the death. Julius broke it up before it got too serious, but still, someone could've been critically injured. And don't even get me started on (Y/n) and Leopold. Those two ran around with pumpkin masks and torches while screaming like madmen. Luckily, Captain Fuegoleon confiscated their torches after they nearly set someone on fire. Later that night, Julius announced there'd be open mic karaoke. Once again, (Y/n) and Leopold made a ruckus.
~Flashback~
(Y/n): SWEET DREAMS ARE MADE OF THIS! WHO AM I TO DISAGREE??!!
Leopold: I'VE TRAVELED THE WORLD AND THE SEVEN SEAS! EVERYBODY'S LOOKIN' FOR SOMETHING!
~End of Flashback~
They did eighteen encores. No-one stopped them though, leaving me utterly disappointed. This year, however, they've definitely dialed it back. I guess they figured disruptive behavior could cost them a chance at being King or Queen.
A mage hands Julius a scroll containing the results.
"Everyone, may I please have your attention? The final results are in! So if you'd all kindly quiet down, I'd like to share them with you!" he declares.
(Y/n)'s Point of View:
"Everyone, may I please have your attention? The final results are in! So if you'd all kindly quiet down, I'd like to share them with you!"
Oh shit. Oh shit. Oh shit.
Yuno appears out of nowhere and stands beside me. He must've taken notice to my trembling because he asks, "Are you nervous?"
"W-what?! No...maybe...sort of- yeah, I'm nervous," I begrudgingly admit.
"Hm. Well, you shouldn't be."
"Really? Why not?"
"Bell snuck a peek at the results before the judges got their hands on them," he smirks, "Needless to say, you won't be disappointed."
"Huh?! But that's against the rules!" I fume, "Speaking of Sylph, where'd she go?"
He sighs and shakes his head, "She's looking for the prize money. But she's too tiny to steal it, so I'm not worried."
"Good point."
As I'm standing here, I feel a distant pair of eyes on me. I scan the crowd, but before I can shake off the feeling, a hand ruffles my already disheveled hair.
"Yo, (Y/n)! If you're crowned Queen this year, you'll take me to the Transylvanian Resort, right?"
I turn around and sure enough, Leo's standing before me with a grin on his face. "Leo? Where have you been, dude?!" I tackling him with a hug, nearly sending us to the ground.
"I was stuck in the haunted house for an hour, sorry," he sheepishly explains, "I nearly burned the place down out of fear."
I give him a high five, "That's the Leo I know!"
King Julius clears his throat and holds up the paper bearing the results. Everyone pipes down and focuses on the sound of his voice. This is the moment we've all been waiting for.
"This year's Queen has superbly performed her duties as a Magic Knight this month by successfully guiding her squad through several perilous missions. Her valiant efforts have saved the lives of thousands and we cannot thank her enough. Tonight, she racked up 40,000 points in minigames. During the trivia minigame (the author forgot to mention), she placed 3rd, earning her an additional 300 points. And as for her votes, she received 204 more votes than last year. The amount? 312. And since she matched with her squad, she received an extra 500 points. Overall, she's accumulated a total of 41,112 points. So now, without further ado, I'd like to crown (Y/n) (L/n) as our Halloween Queen!"
Yeah, right.
The crowd erupts with cheers from around me. Yuno and Leo nudge me to walk up on stage, but my body won't move. Surely, this is a prank. The way he spoke so highly of me... Maybe there's been a mistake.
Julius scans the audience for me and calls out, "(Y/n)? Are you out there? Your crown's waiting for you."
Forcing my legs into motion, I walk up the steps of the stage. Once I'm within everyone's sight, the crowd grows even louder. I'm not really used to this type of attention, so I just awkwardly wave at them all. Julius takes my hand and leads me to the center of the stage.
"(Y/n), is there anything you'd like to say before we announce the King?" he asks.
I fidget with my costume jewelry a little bit before interjecting, "I'm sorry if I almost set you on fire last year during my sugar rush. I'll make it up to you!"
My apology earns a wave of laughter, but I'm dead serious. I still feel terrible about that.
"Well said! It's now time to announce our Halloween King!" Silence engulfs the audience once again, allowing Julius to continue. "This year's King has proved time and time again what it means to be a Magic Knight. His leadership sets an idyllic example of bravery on the battlefield. Words will do no justice in thanking him for his service. Tonight, he racked up 42,173 points in minigames. During the trivia minigame, he placed 1st, earning an additional 900 points. He received 258 votes this year. Since he matched his squad this year, he earned an extra 500 points. Overall he's accumulated 43,831 points. So without further delay, I'd like to crown William Vangeance as our Halloween King!"
Once again, loud cheers fill the area and I unconsciously begin to clap my hands. Heat rises to my cheeks when I see the Golden Dawn captain, my captain, walking across the stage in his costume. He still has a mask on, but it's styled to match the Ancient Egyptian theme we have going on. He smiles that freakishly gorgeous smile of his once his eyes make contact with mine.
Marx presents both our crowns on two tasseled pillows. Each year, the theme of the crowns change. Last year, the crowns were platinum with bone-like engravings, mimicking a skeleton. This time, they're bronze with skull-shaped black diamonds. And if you looked closely, you could see pumpkin-shaped carvings within the alloy.
You're probably wondering why I wasn't crowned right after being called up on stage. Well, basically it's tradition for the King and Queen to crown each other. I never thought I'd actually get to do it though.
Captain William gracefully takes hold of my crown and lifts it up. Before placing it atop my head he discretely tells me, "You look gorgeous tonight...as always." With that, he steadily sets the bejeweled crown upon my head.
My eyes glimmer with admiration as numerous emotions hit me at once. Julius sends a nod my way, signaling that it's my turn. Taking a deep breath, I grab ahold of the second crown and lift it above William's head. I'm much shorter than him, so I have to get on my tippytoes. Despite my minor struggle, I successfully place the crown on his head. Once I'm standing on the souls of my feet again, I ask him, "Would it be too bold of me to say you look handsome, Captain?"
His eyes widen a bit and I could've sworn I saw him blushing, "N-no, I suppose there wouldn't be a problem with that."
"In that case, you look extremely handsome, sir."
I bet everyone was wondering what I said to make the William Vangeance so flustered, but luckily the crowd couldn't hear us. I guess they'll never know.
Julius chuckles at our little exchange and then announces, "Now that we've crowned our King and Queen, it's time for the real party to begin!"
At that moment, everybody came to life. Confetti exploded from literally nowhere and carts of liquor were rolled out in a single-file line. The ground was covered in fog, making it look as if we were standing on a cloud. William turns to me and holds out his hand, which I gladly take. He then leads me down the steps of the stage and onto the foggy terrain. Leo runs up to me with a smug grin on his face.
"Congrats, (N/n)! To be honest, I didn't think you'd win this year. Guess I was wrong, huh?" he blithely divulged.
My eye twitches in annoyance, "Why am I not surprised?"
He pats my head, "Don't worry, I still voted for you. There's no way I'm missing out on a free trip to the Transilvainian Resort."
"Whoever said I was taking you?!"
"Well, who else would you take? You don't have many friends," he smirks and then shifts his attention to William, "Who do you plan on taking with you?"
He thinks for a moment before replying, "I haven't really thought of that...I guess could invite a few Captains. What about you, (Y/n)?"
"Hm...it depends. How many people can I take with me?"
"Three," he answers.
"I'll bring Leo, Yuno, and [to be determined]."
Leopold jumps up and down in excitement, "Wait, seriously?! You're bringing me?!"
I nod, "Yep. Like you said, I don't have many friends, so I might as well."
"You're the best!"
"I know, I know."
~Time Skip~
We've been partying for hours. My feet are sore, my limbs might fall off, and my mind isn't working properly. I've spent the majority of my night stuffing my face with cotton candy, soda, and chocolate-covered treats. I challenged Magna to a candy eating contest and let's just say it didn't end well for me. Consumed by a horrid sugar rush, I dragged Leo up on stage with me for a karaoke battle. He gave his all, but I won, of course. Currently, I'm coming down from my high, but I have no idea where I am. I somehow got separated from Leopold and I can't find William either. My head's pounding and I might hurl at any given moment. With muffled ears and blurred vision, I find myself in an alley...alone. My back slides down the wall as I sit down with adverse posture. I grab my crown and place it in my lap, clutching it tightly. Exhaustion plunders my body and I drown in a deep slumber. I should've stayed with William when I had the chance.
"(Y/n)?"
"....(Y/n)!"
"Wake up."
My eyes flutter open to be greeted by a bright light. I shut my eyes and roll over on my side, away from the light. I'm about to fall asleep again but a gentle hand nudges my shoulder. Groaning, I open my eyelids once more. Upon doing so, I'm faced with an angel.
"D-did I die?!" I shoot up, only now noticing the plush surface beneath me.
Mind you, my vision is still quite blurry, so I was taken aback when a familiar voice replied, "Oh my, I'd hope not. However, you did pass out."
I rub my eyes and gawk at the sight before me. Captain William is standing beside the bed wearing his usual mask. Usually, this wouldn't be enough to surprise me. It was the fact that he was in his pajamas that stunned me. He looked...dare I say...cute.
"C-Captain?! Where am I? How long have I been sleeping?!" I stammer, studying my uncharted surroundings.
"This is my room. I noticed you'd disappeared from the party, so I went looking for you. How exactly did you end up in an alley?"
I blush in embarrassment and explain, "I felt dizzy so I figured I'd find somewhere to sit down. Granted, I wasn't in my right mind so I thought an alley was somehow a good place to rest. Thanks for searching for me, by the way. That was very thoughtful of you."
He takes a seat on the edge of the bed and smiles, "It's no problem. A King should look out for his Queen, right?"
"Y-yeah, I guess you're right," I smile back, feeling a prosperous warmth within, "I still can't believe I won though."
"I can. I wouldn't have voted for you if I didn't think you could win."
"W-wait, you voted for me?! But why?!"
He gives it some thought and says, "I just felt like you deserved it the most. You work harder than anyone else in the Golden Dawn. How could I not choose you?"
I scoot closer to him like a dazed puppy and place my hand over his own, "I can't believe we voted for each other! I didn't even think you noticed little ol' me."
Shades of pink cast over his face, "W-well, of course I noticed. You need to give yourself more credit."
He's right. I always have a tendency to look down upon myself. No matter what I do, I never think it's good enough. Winning Halloween Queen tonight has taught me not to underestimate myself. Speaking of Halloween, where's my costume?...WHERE'S MY COSTUME?! How am I just now noticing my new attire?!
"By the way, Captain. What happened to my costume?" I timidly inquire, tugging on his sleeve.
"Oh, right. It was covered in dirt, so I had Mimosa change you into something cleaner. I figured you wouldn't mind since you've always hated germs," he casually explains.
He's not wrong about the germ thing, but how'd he know?
"That makes sense. I'd take clean pajamas over a dirty costume any day."
He nods and points to his nightstand, "I also set your crown over there, if you were wondering. When I found you in the alley, you were holding it as though your life depended on it. I had to use a spell just to take it from you."
I sigh at my odd behavior and bury my head in my hands, "Sorry for causing you so much trouble, sir. Is there any way I can make it up to you?"
The masked captain pries my hands away from my face and replies tactfully, "In return, all I ask is that you call me William from now on."
"Really? A-are you sure?"
"Of course."
"Okay, Ca- I mean, William."
Yeah, I'm gonna need to get used to that.
William stands from his bed and leans down, giving me an unexpected kiss on the forehead. He then walks to the door and looks back at me, "I'll ask the chef to bring you some tea. For now, just relax, okay?"
I give him a puzzled look, "You've already done enough for me. I can return to my room."
He shakes his head. "You're not going anywhere, (Y/n). After tonight, I'd feel more at ease if you stayed under my supervision," he pauses for a moment, "We also need to discuss our arrangements for the Transylvanian Resort, so don't fall asleep just yet."
He shuts the door behind him, leaving me in his room alone.

A Long Author's Note:
Well, this concludes my Halloween series. This one definitely could've been better, but I hope you still enjoyed it. Now, I wasn't sure what I was going to do for Thanksgiving. So, for next month, I want to continue this story. It'll be about your trip to the Transylvanian Resort. I've already mentioned that you'd be bringing Leo and Yuno along with you, but your third guest is all up to you.
