"This is so frustrating!" You scream at Cole across the room.
"I know, (Y/N)." Cole says walking over and putting a comforting hand on your shoulder.
"It just doesn't make sense! We've searched everywhere for him!"
"Don't worry, we'll find him." Cole says hugging you.
"But will we find him in time?" You ask hugging Cole back and finally letting the tears slip down your face.
"Yes, I know we will. Besides, Jay is stubborn. He will fight the whole way."
"Y-Yeah. You're right." You say giving a slight chuckle.
"Alright. Listen. Let's think. We've searched everywhere on land, and we've searched underground. Where else could Jay possibly be?"
"The sky, but that doesn't make any sense. Does it?"
"Actually, it does. There are sky islands. It doesn't hurt to look." Cole says finally breaking the hug.
"Yeah, but how do we do that?"
"We have the bounty." Cole says looking at you confused.
"I know that, but I want to rescue Jay myself. To prove to him I can do it." You say pleadingly hoping Cole would understand.
"Can I at least help? I can get you in the skies, and give you a quick getaway, but you get to go down, rescue him, and do all the work. Please? I just want to help in case anything goes wrong." Cole says with puppy dog eyes.
You really do need someone to get you to the skies, and it would be nice for a quick getaway. You know Jay's captures will be chasing you, and don't know what Jay's condition is.
"Yeah, that's fine. But how?" You ask thinking he doesn't have a plan.
"Follow me." He says leading you outside.
You watch as Cole stands there and concentrates, as a dragon materializes out of thin air underneath him.
"What? How'd you do that?" You ask taking Cole's extended hand and climbing onto the dragon's back.
"You can do a lot when you concentrate!" Cole says as the dragon ascends in the air.
You two ride around hoping to find something suspicious somewhere, but after several hours, it seems like there is no hope.
"Cole, what if we never find him? Do you think they'll kill him?" You ask hugging him from behind.
"Don't worry we'll find him. Besides Jay is too stubborn to kill off." Cole says trying to lighten the mood.
You keep going until you spot a ship in the distance.
"Cole, that isn't the bounty, is it?" You ask pointing at the ship in the distance.
"No, that's Nadakhan's ship. I bet you if Jay is anywhere, that is where he'll be." Cole says flying faster in the direction of the ship.
Cole flies up beside the anchor and stops, so no one can see you.
"Alright, listen. I'll stay here, you climb up the anchor and find Jay. When you need to escape, just come jump off this side and I'll catch you. Sound like a plan?" Cole says taking your hands in his.
"What if I can't get to this side?" You ask looking away.
"Then just jump. I'll catch you." Cole says smiling sweetly at you.
You kiss him on the forehead, and start your ascent up the anchor. When you land on deck, no one pays attention, so you hide behind some crates, and see if you can find Jay. You look around, and don't see him anywhere on deck, so you sneak around and see if you can find any place these people would be hiding Jay. You see a hatch that leads below deck and decide to look there. Just as you're ready to sprint out, someone spots you, and starts heading in your direction. There's no place to hide, and you hope they get distracted before they find you. Unfortunately, that is not the case, and you look up to see a green serpentine standing in front of you. He looks at you for a minute, and you hold your breath.
"You must be Jay's girlfriend." He whispers nervously.
You don't say anything, but nod your head.
"He is down that hatch. I will try to distract him." Clancee says tossing you a key, and walks towards Nadakhan.
As soon as Nadakhan turns around to talk to this stranger, you dart down the hatch looking in the cells for Jay. You come up on an enclosed cell, and look through the bars in the door to find Jay slightly suspended in the air.
"Jay!" You whisper as you unlock the door, and throw it open.
He doesn't look up, so you cup your hands on his ice cold cheek. You notice the gigantic cut on his arm, the wound on his chest, and the bruise on his throat. The dried blood coming out of his nose and mouth makes you cringe, and you want to take his pain away more than anything.
"Jay, it's me." You say a little louder.
"(Y/N)?!" Jay says in a raspy voice, and looks up.
You can't help yourself and kiss him passionately. He kisses you back, with hunger, and you feel the tears falling down both of your faces.
"Let's get you out of here." You say unlocking one of his wrists.
"Thank you, (Y/N)." Jay says as you unlock the other shackle and catch him.
"Let's go home!" You say and sling one of Jay's arms over your shoulder, to help balance him.
As you walk out of the hatch you are met face to face with Nadakhan. You feel Jay tense up beside you, but you try to show no fear. You look around and see your little serpentine helper on the ground, rubbing his head. He frowns at you and mouths an 'I'm sorry.'
"I see you finally came to help your boyfriend escape. So close, yet so far! Too bad you sent Clancee for the distraction."
"We're not done yet!" You smirk and make the world around you go bright.
"What the-" you hear someone say, so you take off towards the side.
"We can't leave Clancee!" Jay says looking in Clancee's direction.
Jay speaking allows Nadakhan to know where you are, so he quickly grabs you and yanks you away from Jay. Nadakhan laughs as his grip on you tightens.
"Leave her alone! Don't you dare hurt her!" Jay says wobbly making his way over to you.
"Jay! Go!" You yell trying to get out of Nadakhan's grasp.
"No! Not without you!" Jay says wobbly making his way over to you.
"All you have to do is give me your powers, I release you, and all this goes away." Nadakhan says.
"And all I have to do is give you my powers?"
"(Y/N), don't you dare!" Jay says starting to walk faster.
"I'll give you my powers all right!" You say making the world go brighter.
Nadakhan groans in pain, so you take the opportunity to elbow him. He drops you and you run over to Jay.
"Clancee! Come with us!" You yell extending your hand.
"I don't want to be intruding." He says walking over.
"You wouldn't be." Jay says smiling.
"Ok. I'll come." He smiles and accepts your hand.
"You three won't be going anywhere!" Nadakhan says drawing his sword and advancing on you guys.
You put both Jay and Clancee behind you and slowly start backing toward the wrong edge. You see your powers start to wear off as you start to panic.
Then you remember Cole's words: "Just jump. I'll catch you."
"Let's jump!" You say standing in the edge.
"Are you crazy?!" Clancee asks.
"I don't wanna die! I wanna make it home alive!" Jay says.
"Just trust me!"
"Ok I trust you." Jay says, and Clancee nods in response.
You make the world go dark before jumping off the edge. You feel yourself falling closer and closer to the ground, and look around for Cole. Finally, you hit the dragon's back and smile.
"Glad to see you guys could drop by. And I see we have a stowaway." Cole says looking at the three of you.
"He helped us escape." Jay says leaning against you out of exhaustion.
"I mean. You can always drop me back, but I don't think I'd be welcomed. I don't mean to be a burden." Clancee says.
Cole chuckles and says, "You're fine."
You hug Cole from behind and mutter a thanks. Cole looks at the three of you and smiles.
"You guys look a little rough. Let's get you home!" Cole jokes and makes his dragon fly home faster.
