(Hiccup's P.O.V.)
There were dragons when I was a boy. There are dragons now that I'm an old man. And there WILL be dragons even after me and my wife, Merida, pass into Valhalla.
I have ruled a pretty long time, 69 years to be exact. Mer's ruled 70. We're pretty old, ancient as our kids say. I'm 92 and Merida will be 92 next month. We turned the crown over to Valka when we turned 90.
She's the image of her mom. Valka actually is married now. Dagur's youngest, yes, Hammer of the Beserker Defenders of the Wing married our sweet Valka. They have triplet daughters. Harp, Lyre, and Flute. They named them after musical instruments! It's great being a grandpa now that my kids have REALLY outgrown my lap!
Little Hiccup gained more self-confidence, like I knew he would. And to everyone's surprise, except for me and Merida, he abdicated his right to be Chief of Clan Berk. He turned it over to Fergus our baby. He prefers to ride Eclipse and work in our dragon military.
He's mentioned a couple times a young Viking girl he's met on diplomatic meetings. Her name is Camicazi of the Bog Burgler tribe. The chief's daughter. I predicit he will be officially betrothed soon.
Speaking of Fergus, who is now Chief/Lord Fergus Haddock, really has grown.
He was just a spunky kid with waaaayyy to much attitude. He was even more hot-headed than my dad and his mom! Often I lost my patience with him.
But, with Merida's help, I slowly saw what a gift he was to the five clans and underneath all that irresponsibility and temper, was a Viking hero.
Clan Berk is in good hands with him as Chief.
Merida and I have retired to a house in Clan Berk. It's much more peaceful. Fergus is married to Snotlout and Mindden's youngest child, Saundra. They have a son, Ari, meaning Brave.
Toothless and Whisp are older too. They however are still the strong, proud dragons they were when Merida and I met them.
Merida and I are still deeply in love with one another. We are enjoying our retirement. Though Merida's hair has turned silver and her face has much more laugh lines than I thought was possible, she still has the brightest entrancing eyes I ever saw. Her laugh is still musical to my ears. And despite her age she still is powerful when she bends her bow or swings her sword. She hasn't missed a bulls-eye yet!
I may have a harder time gripping my tools and writing instruments, but I'm thankful my memory is still fresh and clear in my mind. I have been writing all my experiences. Somehow I know future generations will need to know what I learned in my lifetime.
I once feared dragons would be extinct or vanish, but through Merida's friends, the whisps, I learned while the dragons would always be endangered and hunted they would always exsist. The whisps would make sure of it even after Valhalla claims me and Merida.
