De veritaea

Soon after Sam left the balcony, Lana headed to her room as well. The air that hung between her and Sam had been tense when he left, leaving Lana to wonder what she could've said wrong this time.

The next morning was an early one, against which Lana's head indignantly protested. Her companions had already gathered at the car when she finally emerged from the hotel.

"Good morning!" Victor cheered, enjoying the hungover look Lana was sporting.

The death glare Lana sent him was enough to slay an army, but it failed to phase Victor.

"So," Lana began. "Scotland is where we're going."

Nate chuckled at the sarcastic tone that laced her words. "Not a fan of Scotland?" He asked, one eyebrow risen.

Lana grumbled something that no one really caught, except for the words 'cold' and 'freezing'.

She never saw Sam staring at her from the other side of the car. She'd gotten dressed prepared for the adventure, which was a stark contrast from her elegant evening look the night before.

Her hair was slightly tousled and the dark line under her eyes showed a hint of her makeup she didn't take off completely last night.

He wouldn't admit it to anyone- not even at gunpoint, but he thought she looked beautiful.

He was thrown out of his train of thought once the group entered the car and headed off to the harbor.

The ride was quiet, with Lana sitting in the front seat, the two drakes sitting in the back, and Victor driving.

It was then Lana noticed Sam's eyes burning holes in the side of her head. She met his eyes a couple of times, but when she turned, he looked away.

Arriving at the harbor, Nate and Victor soon left to return the keys of the car they'd rented, leaving Lana alone with Sam.

The air was tense, Lana didn't know how her relationship with Sam fared at the moment. For all she knew, he was pissed at her, yet she couldn't remember anything she might've said last night that would create such tension.

Luckily the silence didn't last long, as Victor and Nate soon returned and beckoned for the two to follow them towards Victor's plane.

They all entered the small plane, and off they went.

Lana sat down opposite of Nate, who was analyzing a map that had yet to make sense to her.

He noticed her questioning look, and motioned for her to sit next to him.

"This right here," he pointed on the map. "That's the cathedral."

Lana swallowed hard. "That's where Rafe is blowing everything to hell, right?"

Nate chuckled. "Yeah, he is. But, luckily, we're gonna be all the way over here." He dragged his finger across the map to a place labeled graveyard, quite a while away from the cathedral.

Lana took the map from Nate. "This map doesn't show the terrain and elevation," she all but pouted.

"Well," Nate answered, shooting Lana a smile, "you should expect an awful lot of climbing."

"Always do," she mumbled in response.

In the front of the plane, Sam had joined Victor in the copilot seat. He glanced behind him every so often, looking at Lana and Nate talking and laughing.

Victor caught on. "Don't even think about it," he stated.

Sam turned back around, "I don't know what you're talking about."

Victor shot him a look. "I see the way you look at her. It's a no."

Sam squared his jaw, his pride hurt by Victor attempting to lecture him. "I'm sure she's old enough to decide that for herself," he spat back.

Victor glared at him through the corner of his eyes, decided not to waste anymore words on the matter.

Sam stood up forcefully and made his way towards the back of the plane, stumbling slightly due to turbulence.

He greeted both Lana and Nate with a smile, which relieved the woman's mind a little; he wasn't pissed at her after all- not that she cared if he was, she told herself.

He sat down on the small bench opposite of the two, and a comfortable silence ensued. Lana had pulled out her phone and was absentmindedly playing a game on it.

Exasperated, she put her phone down once Sam was once again looking at her, and said: "Nate, please tell your brother to stop looking at me all the time."

Nate looked up at Sam and grinned. "Couple days out of prison and already chasing the ladies?" He asked his big brother, who surprisingly took it with a smile.

"You've got something on your shirt," he told Lana.

She looked confused. "Where?" She asked.

"Oh yeah, right there," Nate said, pointing to Lana's shirt just under her chin.

When she tried to look down, Nate flicked her chin with a big smile on his face.

She looked at him, realizing the prank, and rolled her eyes.

"You two are so immature," she said, tuning out the snickers from the Drake brothers.

"Sorry, sweetheart," Sam mused, a chuckle still slipping into his words.

Lana got up from her seat, gave them both the finger, and took refuge in the copilot seat next to Victor.

"Help," she jokingly said.

"Ignore them," Victor said, smiling empathically before placing a hand on her knee.

Lana curled up in her seat and soon drifted off to sleep.

Victor noticed, and softly told the boys to get some sleep as well, as they would arrive in the morning.

Nate didn't need to be told twice, as he laid down on the uncomfortable bench and pulled two blankets over him.

"You can still sleep anywhere, huh?" Sam asked amusedly.

Nate cracked one eye open. "Yeah," he said, "and you still can't help but pine after every woman you meet."

"I am not pining after her," Sam sighed, getting annoyed at everyones insinuations.

Nate sat up again, lowering his voice slightly. "You'd better not be. That girl isn't what she seems, Sam. She can make you feel exactly what she wants you to feel, and drop you the moment she has no use for you anymore."

She's a loyal friend, capable, has saved my life more times than I can count, and I trust her to do it again when it comes to it, but I've seen the way she's treated lovers."

Noticing Sam's weird look, he continued: "I know you're the big brother and all, but I don't wanna see you get your heart broken is all. Kinda not what we're here for."

Sam nodded slightly, understanding what Nate said.

"I guess you're right," he mumbled. "Goodnight, Nate."

"Night," Nate replied, laying back down and almost immediately falling asleep.

In the front of the plane, Lana is still curled up in the seat, but not as asleep as thought to be at first, while Victor was worriedly glancing her way. The two of them had heard Nate's words.

His words had stung a little, but yet she couldn't say he was wrong. The way she had treated people who loved her in the past was despicable, and she wasn't necessarily proud of it either.

She met the eyes of Victor. He raised his eyebrow at her; a question: Are you okay?

Was she? She contemplated for a  moment, before deciding on yes, she was okay. Giving Victor a playful wink, showing she didn't care, she closed her eyes again.
