Time skip
After that night, you have distanced yourself from people. You were scared to the bone to interact with someone after what your 'friend' tried to do to you. You were aware of the fact that you may be surrounded by ghouls that would want to kill you. No matter how hard you tried to get rid of those thoughts, you couldn't... Akiko's death and the moment you saw her true nature replayed in your head too many times to count now
On the bright side, if there was one, your red string popped out of nowhere in the same night and it made you smile a little every time you looked at it
"There is someone who loves me" you thought while smiling
You didn't care about the string at all, until one day, when you decided to follow the string and find your soulmate
On the other side, since that night, Urie wondered who his soulmate might be every time he was alone, until he, too, decided to follow the string when his job as a ghoul investigator wasn't draining the life out of him

Minutes were changing into hours, hours in days, days in weeks and weeks in months...
Five months of searching and still nothing
You couldn't find your soulmate...
And Urie couldn't find his soulmate...
Until you both decided to give up and focus on the things that really mattered
A week later, you were given the chance to fly in another country, more specifically, in Italy, to study and of course, you couldn't just miss this chance
"Maybe I'll find my soulmate there" you thought. "But what are the chances..."

Another week later
As you were heading to the airport, you heard on the news that the Aogiri tree, that ghoul organization, attacked again, but to the investigators and humankind's luck, they were eradicated fast
"Good thing that it didn't interfere with my fly" you thought as you were waiting for your plane when you felt a sharp pain in your left hand. "The fuck?"
You looked at your pinky and you saw the knot tightened again as you started to look around
"My soulmate... they're here..." you thought as you looked at your string when you noticed that the knot became a little loose again
Outside of the airport, CCG cars and vans passed by after their victory against the Aogiri tree
In a certain van, a certain squad, called the Quinx squad, were sleeping profoundly, worn out because of the battle they had earlier
The only that was awake was a certain dark purple haired man as he took off his leather gloves from his hands and stared at his red string
He let a sigh part his lips when he felt a sharp pain in his left hand when he noticed that the knot on his pinky finger tightened and came loose multiple times
"(My soulmate... They're here)" he thought, getting up from his seat. "Wait!" He shouted to the driver. "Stop the van here!"
"Huh? Did something happen, Urie-san?" Asked the driver as his eyes were glued on the road
"Just do it! Please!" Urie shouted again as a certain blond male tugged him by his white coat's sleeve
"Uri-boy, what happened?" He asked, rubbing his eyes
"I'll explain later, Shirazu" Urie replied as the driver did as told
When the engine stopped, Urie stormed out of the van, looking around, until he noticed the airport and the knot tightened again
On the other side, the knot on your finger tightened once again as your eyes started to shift around, following the string when you were about to pass the gate and give your ticket to the lady there at the gate
"Have a nice day!" She said, flashing you a bright smile
"Yeah, you too--"
"[Y/N]! [Y/N] [L/N]!!"
You flinched when you heard someone call your name as some people started to stare at you when the knot on your finger tied again. Your eyes started to follow the red string until your eyes landed on...
"Urie Kuki...?" You muttered, looking at the panting, dark purple haired male that stood at the entrance
It was clear as day now...
Urie was your soulmate...
...And you were his soulmate...
"Urie--"
"Miss, you have to go, you're blocking the acces and other people need to get on the plane as well" said the same lady as she pushed you to make you pass the gate when your petite figure slowly faded in that sea of people
"(No... No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! I took too much time to find you!)" Urie mentally panicked as he started to run to the gate when the guards stopped him
"Sir, you can't get in front of people that have been waiting so long to get on this plane. Besides, do you have a ticket?"
"But, my soulmate!" He shouted as some people started to giggle. "She... she can't leave! I didn't even got time to say goodbye to her! Please, I--"
"Sir, do you have a ticket or not?"
"I-I... I don't" he whispered
"That's what I thought. Now, will you, please, be so kind and let the others pass the gate?"
But Urie didn't answer. Instead, he looked at the ground, mad at himself that he let you go so easily and embarrassed that people laughed at him
"Oi, Urie!" Shirazu shouted after him from the entrance of the airport. "Why did you run off like that, man?"
Again, Urie didn't answer. He silently made his way back to the van where his squad was waiting, concerned about their teammate's sudden strange behavior
With you
The idea of calling him when you arrived in Italy was the first thing that came in your mind, but in that sea of people, as you were getting pushed by idiots and trying to reach your plane, your phone fell from your pocket on the ground, being crushed by someone by mistake
They offered you some money to help you get another one as an apology, but it didn't help at all...
It was the only way you could reach for him and now it was gone...
[Y/N] POV
"Maybe... maybe I should forget about all of this soulmate thing" I thought as I was staring out on the window of the plane. "Good thing that at least I remember mom's phone number"
"Had a rough day, miss?" An old woman asked as she sat next to me
"You can call it like that" I replied when the woman noticed the tears that formed in the corners of my eyes
"Your poor heart is broken, isn't it?" the woman asked as I flinched a little
"My soulmate... I just found him today, but it was too late" I replied as the woman gave me a sad smile
"That handsome young man that runned at the gate?" She asked as I furrowed a brow at her. "I was right behind him when it happened. He looked like he was about to fight those guards to get to see you. But don't worry, my dear. You two will meet again in the most unexpected time. Maybe in a rainy day while you're drinking your coffee in your favorite coffee shop"
"How do you know that?" I asked, looking a little confused at her
"I have a feeling" she replied with a chuckle. "Besides, you're soulmates, my dear. One day or another, you'll find each other again"
"I guess... you're right..." I sighed. "But what if... what if I won't see him again?"
"Don't be silly" she softly chuckled at me. "Soulmate's will always find their way back to each other. And I know you will see him again, you just have to trust your string and your heart" she continued as I could see her take a part of the string that was resting on her lap and swirled it around her finger
"I guess she's right" I thought, until I saw what she was doing. "H-how?!" I exclaimed, confused as hell. "I thought that I could only see my string!"
"I'm a sorceress myself, dear" she replied
"Or maybe she's not right" I told to myself as I panicked a little

One year later
[Y/N] POV
The time I've been in Italy passed by really fast and it brought a lot of changes here and there
I started opening up to people more and made a few friends, even if I was aware that they may be ghouls, until I saw what kind of binge eaters of friends I have
Luckily for me, some of them were japanese, so I didn't have to come back alone to Japan in the day of my arrival
"Ahhh, I missed Japan so much" the brown haired boy called Yuuki whined, earning a chuckle from me and my other japanese friend, a girl with short, pink neon hair called Kyouka
"I can't wait to go home and sleep all day" Kyouka whined
"Maybe you guys will show me where you live" I proposed to them as they hummed in response. "By the way, I heard that a new era of peace started between ghouls and humans last year, while we were gone"
"But there will be those ghouls who will still rail against humankind" Yuuki whispered as we shook our heads up and down
"Even so, it's good to see that we can live with each other in peace now" Kyouka said in a cheerful tone
"Hey, y'all wanna go with me to :re tomorrow?" I asked after Yuuki started the engine to his car
"You go to that shop, too?" Kyouka asked as I just hummed in response. "Of course I'm coming! What about you, Yu-chan?"
"Count me in as well" Yuuki chuckled at Kyouka's cheerfulness
"It's decided, then!" Kyouka exclaimed in the same cheerful tone

The next day
Author POV
"Where the hell are those two?" You asked yourself as you were waiting for your friends to arrive
The coffee shop was kind of packed with people and ghouls and you couldn't see if your friends entered the shop or not
You stared out on the window as the rain droplets hit the ground or the people that ran on the street, trying to find shelter
You decided to text your friends and you didn't hear or notice when the door to the shop opened, nor when someone's eyes spotted you
"Excuse me" a male's voice spoke up. "Is this seat taken?"
"Yeah" you replied, slowly looking up from your phone while you were sending the messages to your friends. "Actually, I'm waiting for my--"
But you stopped mid sentence when your eyes met with the man's
The same diamond shaped, grey irises looked into your [E/C] orbs as you got up, looking at him with a mixed look of disbelief and happiness
"Urie-kun..." you muttered, fighting back some tears
"You're finally back, [Y/N]" Urie muttered as well as he raised his pinky finger
"That woman was right" you whispered, doing the same thing with your pinky. "I got to see you again..."
Almost instantly, you wrapped your hands around his neck and he wrapped his hands around your waist as the customers, who were watching the whole thing, started to cheer and applauded for the two of you as you refused to let each other go
"I'm not going to let you go again" he whispered as the tears rolled down on your face
"I'm so happy... that you're my soulmate" you whispered back
The moment you two had got interrupted by a certain someone's giggles, making you let Urie go fast
"[Y/N]-chan" Kyouka called. "I didn't know you had a boyfriend"
"Wha! B-but I--"
"Why didn't you tell us?" Asked Yuuki, teasing you as Kyouka did the same, when...
"Why don't you two kiss already?!" Both Kyouka and Yuuki asked in sync as you and Urie flinched
"Well... uhh... I-I... w-we" you started to stammer when you felt two hands cupping your face
"Yeah, why don't we?" Urie asked nonchalantly as your face flushed red
You wanted to say something else while you were still looking into each other's eyes, until you noticed how he was staring at your rosy lips. You were a little unsure, but you closed your eyes and let the kiss happen as the others looked at the two of you in extreme tension
A new kind of adrenaline was pumping inside your whole body as his surprisingly soft lips met yours
It wasn't a heated kiss, it was a sincere and innocent one, like two high schoolers sharing shyly their first kiss as their lips made such a perfect pair together, looking like they were having a dance... dancing with each other as love is engulfing them, sharing a million of feelings and thoughts only by the simple touch of their lips
When you two slowly pulled away, you opened your eyes to see how his cheeks were rosy now, earning a soft chuckle from you
"You're my best friend, my human journal, my soulmate..." you whispered softly as his lips curled in a small smile
"[Y/N]... Stay with me..." he whispered back. "Be my girlfriend"
"I'll be glad to" you replied as you conected your forehead with him
"S-so sweet" Yuuki cried as Kyouka looked at him from the corner of her eyes
"Oh, come here, you little bitch!" Kyouka exclaimed as she grabbed Yuuki by the face and kissed him as the poor boy's face was a hundred shades of red as the others cheered for them and you and Urie chuckled at them until you looked again into each other's eyes
"That's right"
"(That's right)"
"You're my soulmate"
"(You're my soulmate)"
And between the cheers and Kyouka and Yuuki's excessive kissing, the two of you shared another kiss...
