The next day came too soon. Just like I had promised my daughter I let her read to both me and Edward. It was nice to hear her voice since she rarely liked to speak outside using her gift - which was a habit of hers that I was hoping to soon break.
After she finished reading we joined Rosalie, Emmett and the twins in the kitchen for breakfast. As we walking into the kitchen Rosalie set Renesmee's plate on the table and then placed a napkin in her daughters lap before kissing her on the cheek.
"So-" I began as I pulled up a seat at the counter. "Have you and Rose looked into the childrens education at all?" I asked before lifting a cup of blood to my mouth.
I sipped lightly and then smacked my lips together. The taste was beyond amazing. From the salty taste in the blood I knew it was a moose. I had only drank moose blood once but I remembered the taste consistency as if it had been a million times over.
"We are going to homeschool for now, atleast until their growth slows down enough to not draw attention from the humans." Rosalie murmered as she leaned into Emmett's muscled arms.
"That would be a good idea." I responded before taking another sip. "Renesmee should start here in a few days. It will be nice to see her make friends and socialize like a normal being."
Just as I had finished my sentence my cell phone began to ring. In half a second I accepted the call and held the phone to my ear. "Bella Swa- Cullen speaking." I said. Edward chuckled at my slight mistake of name. Even after having been married and had a child with my husband I was still mistakingly addressing myself.
"Mrs. Cullen, this is Carmen Sandez from the Denali Elementary Administration. I was just going over a Miss Renesmee Cullen's file and it seems that she never went to school is that correct?" Carmen asked.
I nodded my head to her question. "Yes ma'am we didn't think she needed it." I cleared my throat uneasily. "Our daughter is, well, she's smart." I said as simply as I could. "Is that a problem?"
"Well it wouldn't be if she was just starting kindergarten but I read here that your daughter is 7 years old she should be in the 3rd grade but she has no previous education listed at all, not even home schooling." Carmen explained. "In order to have her begin she needs to take an assesment test to see what all she knows."
I rose to my feet and began pacing as I ran my free hand through my hair. "Okay, when are you available?" I asked.
"I'm available until 5 pm but I suggest if you want your daughter to not fall behind you come in now." Carmen said.
I stopped in my place. "Okay, I will head out now. Thank you for calling." I finished before I quickly hung up.
Walking the four steps back to the counter I lifted the cup to my mouth and drained it down. I didn't even have to relay the phone call to my husband because he could hear perfectly with his superhuman hearing.
He drained his cup as well and headed over to the sink to rinse them out. After he had finished he took Renesmee upstairs to get dressed.
I found it weird that just a little under a month ago my daughter was the size of a five year old and now she was old enough to look like she was seven. Of course her growing was slowing down but that didn't mean much.
Carlisle explained that after her first year she should be around the size of a twelve year old. From there she would grow as quick as a normal human would meaning that 6 years from that point she would be to her full growth where she would stop completley.
By the time I went upstairs and dressed myself Edward and Renesmee were heading downstairs. We headed out to the truck and got in before we made the journey through the woods that hid the house completely from human eyes. Once we broke through to the highway it was a 15 minute drive - with Edwards 100 mph driving - to the school.
"Renesmee." I called as I turned around in my seat.
I smiled as I watched her sitting in the 'adult' seat with a seatbelt on. It was weird how just a couple days ago she was still required to be in a booster seat -by my fathers word of mouth. She turned her head, causing her bronze curls to shake.
"Yes mother?" She replied, her rosey cheeks on clear display as she smiled.
"When we go in here you will be given a test to see what you know. I want you to answer as best as you can so they can properly place you alright." I said to my daughter.
She nodded her head causing her loose curls to bounce slightly. "Yes mother I know." She replied in her gentle voice.
I reached back and ran my fingers gently though her hair. The feeling of the silk-like hair was beyond what any human would have. Each strand was perfect, silky, shiney, bronze. Even her curls had the perfect texture. They weren't too tight nor too lose.
"You have no idea how beautiful you are Renesmee." I said to her as I ran the back of my hand over her rosey cheeks.
She smiled innocently.
We pulled up outside the school and when Edward shut off the car she unbuckled herself and got out. When we got out and walked to her side she slid her hand through mine and held it. It was a short walk across the parking lot to the school office to get out of the light drizzle.
When we walked through the doors I heard no sound what so ever, except one. The sound was a constant clicking, as if someone was typing on the computer. I sniffed the air lightly and tasted a low level of estrogen, the person was a female around her early to mid 40s. Possibly menopausing.
"Mrs. Carmen?" I called out as we walked down the narrow, dimly lit hall that let to an open office area.
A native woman with brown hair mixed with several greys looked up at me from over her glasses. She looked at me and then to Edward. "You are Bella Cullen yes?" She spoke.
"Yes." I replied. "This is my husband Edward and our daughter Renesmee."
From where she sat it was impossible to see Renesmee from over the counter. When Renesmee heard herself being introduced she went on tiptoe and grinned at the woman sitting behind the desk.
"That's me, I'm Renesmee." She said cheerily.
I heard the womans hear beat stutter a few times when she saw my daughter, but no more then when she laid eyes on my husband. He was known to 'dazzle' people with his attractiveness.
The woman rose to her feet and moved around the desk to get a better look. "Well aren't you the cutest thing. Well well, lets get this test on the road so we can get you into school." She added as she walked across the hall to another room.
She held back the door to let Renesmee enter and then had us wait in the sitting room. I stared at Edward who had his eyes on the woman as if he was studying her. After a few seconds he sighed and crossed his arms before he turned his gaze upon me.
"What is it?" I asked him. He raised his eyebrows at me. "Something is bothering you I can tell." I added.
Edward gave me his famous half grin before he turned his eyes to the floor. "Her thoughts are annoying." He began as he ran his fingers through his bronze hair. "I don't even want to begin to explain them to you."
"Whats the worst they could get." I chuckled to myself.
Most thoughts that belonged to women while they were in the same room as my husband was normally about how they wanted to 'be' with him.
Edward groaned before he began rubbing his temples. "Sometimes I wish I could just turn them off unless I wanted to hear something." He said.
I moved over to his side and began rubbing his shoulders. Even though we were indestructable we still had human emotions and could get overwhelmed. I hated seeing my husband going through this just because of his gift. Him and Jasper got the worst side-effects from their gifts.
Ten minutes had passed by before the door opened and Renesmee came skipping out of the room. The smile on her face was a proud one. She came up to me and wrapped her arms around me.
Seconds behind her was Carmen who had a scantron in her hands. I remembered those days back in my school in Arizona. All tests were taken on scantrons so they could be corrected quicker.
I watched as Carmen clicked into a program on the computer and then ran the scantron through the machine that read it. After a few moments I saw her expression harden.
"I'm sorry Mr. and Mrs. Cullen but your daughter has been declined. The test results have concluded that she isn't fit for this school." She explained.
At that moment Renesmee began to cry. Edward lifted her into his arms and began soothing her. I had to rationalize my mind because I wanted to rip her head off for causing my daughter to cry. Even though it wasn't her 'fault' persay I was still angry.
I clenched my fists as I walked forward to the desk and peered down at her. "Please." I said through gritted teeth. Let my daughter in."
She looked up at me and shook her head before she continued clicking away at the computer. "I can't let your daughter in her test scores don't fit here." She said to me. "If you want your daughter to go into school I can send her test scores to another campus but she is too smart to go here."
My eyes widened for a milisecond. "Ex- excuse me?" I asked.
All this time I thought she was implying that my daughter was 'dull' but now she was saying Renesmee could go here because she was too smart.
She picked up the scantron results and handed them to me. I read over them and saw that she got 100% correct.
"The test was made to place children of all different ages but it seems your daughter not only surpassed the elementary criteria but middle school and high school as well. Your daughter is a... a Genius."
I turned around to look at my husband and Renesmee. His expression was unreadable but Renesmee's was cheerful again.
When I turned back to Carmen I leaned in closer. "What do you recommend that I do?" I asked as I strummed my fingers lightly against the counter.
She sighed before she began typing away at rapid speed on her computer. "In order to get anywhere in society you need a diploma. I'm sending your daughters results to the high school and they will be notifying you within 24 hours. My suggestions is to put her in high school. If she is able to work quickly she can graduate by the next year."
"But thats 4 years of credits."
"It can be done with determination. If that doesn't work out she can continue on like a normal high school student and graduate in 4 years. It won't be easy though-" She nodded her head in Renesmee's direction. "Trying to fit into a high school at age 7 is like trying to fit in a cat with the dogs. 99% of the times they will be torn apart."
"Thank you." I said before I turned away to walked to my husband.
As we got into the truck I began thinking about this. I wanted my daughter to have the experience but not like this. I knew kids these days they weren't nice. In order to move on she needed a diploma and in order to do that she needed to go to school.
"There is always home schooling." Edward said to me.
I blinked once, pulling myself back to reality. "I want her to have the chance to make friends. I want her to have as normal a life as possible."
"Bella, she will never have a normal life, she is special." Edward said as he placed his hand on mine.
"But daddy I want to atleast try." Renesmee spoke from the back seat.
"She wants to try." I repeated to my husband. "Whatever she wants I want."
So it was decided from that moment. Renesmee would start Denali High school in two days as long as they accepted her. When the district calls they might decide it was too much of a risk for my daughter to let her in. If they wanted her she would be going.
