That night I laid Renesmee down in her bed I suprised her with a beautifully wrapped rectangle package. Of course she already knew what it was before she opened it because of how and when I presented it to her. Normally, as she was going to sleep I or her father would read to her. It had been a while since I had done so because I had read her every story book we had and was so caught up in recent events I wasn't able to get another.
Luckily we had the internet so searching online for books was a cinch, plus the perks of having it shipped directly to your front door made it better.
I watched as Renesmee began neatly pulling back the tape that held the wrapping paper. When the tape was finally free she took her time unfolding the paper, unlike most children who just rip it off in a hurry. After the paper was removed and the book was in plain sight she refolded the paper neatly and set it aside before she picked up the book.
In her hands were two new books. Journey to the Center of the Earth and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I had read these books once upon a time during my middle school years and enjoyed them so I could tell she would too.
Renesmee was the type of child who loved to learn things and read actual books, not picture books. She despised anything written for children and only enjoyed books made for young adults or teens. I made sure that the books were appropriate though because there were some things I didn't think she was ready to know yet.
"Can I read the first page?" She asked me as she turned the book over in her hands.
I smiled sweetly as I shook my head. "If you read it then how are you supposed to fall asleep?" I asked as I gently took the books into my hand. "Tomorrow when you wake up you can read it to me and daddy alright?" I responded.
Renesmee slicked her bronze curls back away from her face and settled under her covers. After I tucked her in I took a seat on the floor beside the day bed and began reading Journey to the Center of the Earth. 5 pages in she finally fell asleep.
I carefully marked my page and rose to my feet to put the books away. Before I left the room I plugged in her docking station for her ipod and turned on her lullaby. She would sleep soundly tonight with her song. No Volturi interrupting her dreams if I could help it.
Before I left her room I placed a kiss on her rosey cheeks. Those were my rosey cheeks. Carefully and quietly as possible I opened the door and stepped out of her room only to freeze. In the room that was Jacobs I could easily hear talking.
If it had been any other voice it wouldn't have struck me with such surprise. But the voice belonged to Rosalie.
I moved as close to the door as I could and took a seat to eavesdrop on their conversation.
"Are you going to tell me why you are in my room blondie?" Jacob hissed through his teeth.
From the way he was talking I could tell he was still in alot of pain from the incident. I had the slightest urge to enter the room and ask Rosalie to leave him be but I, just like Jake, wanted to know why she was in there.
"I wanted to apologize." Rosalie said bitterly.
I had to focus greatly in order to keep myself from gasping in shock. Rose wasn't an apologetic person. The last time she apologized was when I went to rescue Edward from death at the hands of the Volturi.
I heard Jake laugh once before the laughter turned into a groan. "Spare me from having to talk and just leave. You don't need to pity me."
"I'm not pitying you. Pity is the last thing I dish out to people like you." She hissed. There was a long silence that was only broken as she spoke again. "Just bare with me okay, this isn't easy."
"Get to the point." Jake snapped. "I'd like to return to sleep."
"The point is I am sorry that I hurt you. I was angry and scared and you were the perfect candidate to release my anger on without giving an explanation." Rosalie said shyly.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Rose was expressing herself to Jake. She never expressed herself to anyone.
"So what you are saying is you are a cold hearted bitch who wants me dead." Jake replied in a voice that stated he already knew what she was telling him.
"No, I'm saying it was easy to point the finger at someone who used to be considered the enemy." She explained further.
"Used to be, meaning past tense. What am I now, your best friend." He said sarcastically.
"You are family. You stood with us and fought along side us. I wouldn't have expected that from a-"
"Dog" Jake cut in.
I wanted to go in the room and strangle him within an inch of his life. Here Rose was bearing her emotions to him and he wasn't making it any easier then I knew it was. From where I sat I could hear Rose grinding her teeth together. She was clearly frustrated.
"I wouldn't have expected that from someone who was supposed to be the enemy." She repeated.
Jake let out a breath. "Obviously."
I almost jumped as Rosalie unexpectedly hit the floor with her fist. "Dammit Jacob you aren't making this easy for me. I want us to bury the hatchet. I'm tired of fighting with you and having us bicker everytime we are around one another. I want us to get along."
I sat there replaying the words she spoke over and over again in my mind. Rose wanted to get along with Jake. She wanted to get past where they used to be and build something new. What shocked me even more was that it came from Roses mouth, meaning it was obviously her idea.
"So... does this mean you won't call me dog, mutt or any variation of the two anymore?" Jacob finally spoke up after three minutes and twenty-seven seconds.
"Yes, exactly that." Rosalie said. Her voice this time around was a bit more cheery, not much but lighter in the tone.
I wanted to jump up and down with joy. Rose and Jake getting along was something I would have never expected. Ever.
"So I guess that means you don't want me to call you blondie anymore or make any blonde jokes." Jake added, his voice slightly pained but casual.
"No more blonde but I'm always up to hear what jokes you have." Rose chuckled.
Rose just laughed. I couldn't believe that. I was definitely dreaming, or was I? Vampires couldn't sleep so this couldn't be a dream. Or maybe I got knocked out or something? I shook my head to the thoughts as they were all as ludicrous as the next.
"This isn't normal." Jake said out of no where. "Vampires and werewolves getting along and living under the same room." He sighed. "This isn't normal."
"What is normal?" Rosalie asked. I heard her get to her feet and dust herself off. "If you need anything at all just let me know." She said before she headed towards the door.
I had the urge to flee but I was confident that she knew I was here. She probably knew I was here the entire time. When the door opened and she stepped out I rose to my feet. She closed the door and then took a couple steps back before making eye contact.
"Did you really mean all that?" I asked as I placed my hands in my back pockets.
"When have I ever said anything I didn't mean at the time?" She asked before walking towards the stairs.
So that meant she truly wanted to get along with Jacob. This meant so many changes in the future. One of them being less bickering and more peace.
I felt his presence before he was even in my arms. My husband was home. I turned around quickly and embraced him before he could get his arms around me. "I missed you." I murmered into his ear.
"I missed you." He responded before meeting his lips to mine. Once we came apart again he spoke. "We were going over covens and battle techniques and so far it looks like the fight won't be fair." He finished.
"For us?" I asked slightly confused.
"No, for the Volturi. With just your shield alone Jane and Alec's powers are useless. I'm not saying that it will be as easy as squishing bugs under our shoe but I feel confident that the ending will be a happy one for us."
"God I hope so." I sighed as I leaned into his chest. "I just want us to have a normal life."
"We will never have a normal life, it will always be extraordinary when you are a Cullen." He smirked. "But, while we are on the subject I was thinking, maybe Renesmee can sit this year out of school so she can spend time with the family just incase-"
"No just incase. I don't even want to hear you speak those words Edward Masen Cullen." I said firmly. "Our daughter doesn't need to have her life interrupted because of the Volturi. They already took her sense of security away, I will not let them destroy her educational experience. It's a right of passage and I want her to experience everything humanly possible."
After I had finished speaking Edwards lips found mine again. "And she will." He added.
"She will starting this Wednesday." I said, adding to his response.
Once I was finished with my point Edward lifted me into his arms and carried me to our bedroom. More love was about to me made. More love then any two humans could. fathom. It was beautiful.
