December sixth was the day that Dani was done with her final exam. She felt relieved. However, she hadn't felt always relieved on December the sixth. Three years ago she actually called December the sixth the worst day of her life. She fell asleep feeling like the luckiest girl in the world, but of course, that couldn't last long.

The night before was prom night. A night she actually was excited about. She didn't had a date or anything, but no one from her friend group did, and most important; Daniel, her best friend, also didn't had a date. Which meant she could spend all her time with him that night. Dani and Daniel became best friends when they only were small toddlers. She was two and a quarter and he was three when they became best friends. They shared a nickname and that was enough reasons for them to become best friends. Daniel always got called Dan or even Danny on some occasions, and Daniëlle never was called by her real name. Only her mother used her real name. Daniëlle always got called Dani. Dan if they wanted to use even a shorter name for her. Growing up they were unseparated. They lived in the same street, which made things easier to sneak to each other once they got into their teenage stage. However, Dani always kept one secret from Dan. She had the biggest crush on him once she got to her teenage stage and found out about the whole love thing. She never reacted on those feelings as she thought her friendship with him was too important to ruin. That changed on prom night.

When Daniel picked Dani up from her house in a suit her feelings for him started to react immediately. He looked good in a suit. Handsome. But she wasn't the only one that had those feelings. When Kurt, Dani's brother, had opened the door for Daniel he expected the cliché thing to happen where Dani would walk downstairs from the stairs and he would look at her with wide eyes and an open mouth, because she would look like a princess. But that didn't happen. Kurt had yelled from in front of him to his sister that Daniel had arrived and was waiting for her. And she just came half jogging from the kitchen Daniel knew all too well, into the hallway with her dog, Terry, running after her. She had her heels in her hands, but that wasn't something Daniel had noticed first about her. She had a long gala dress on which ended on the floor and therefore she almost tripped on it. It looked very clumsy, but that's what Daniel loved about her.
'Have fun idiot,' Kurt had said in an amused tone to her sister after he saw her trip over her dress and as he rolled his eyes he walked away from the two lovebirds as he always called them when they weren't there to hear him say that.
'Can't believe I'm already making a fool of myself and I haven't even put these once on!' Dani laughed as she showed Daniel the high heels that she picked out with her mom. Daniel slowly showed his big smile that took over his whole face as he helped Dani balance so she could put on her high heels. Daniel was relieved but not surprised that Dani still wasn't taller as him with those high heels on. The whole week leading on to this night she had been teasing him that she might be taller than him with her high heels. Which was nothing wrong with if she actually was, but he liked it that she was smaller then him.
'You've been making a fool of yourself as long as I've known you,' Daniel grinned as Dani was done putter her shoes on. She looked at him and hit him playfully on his shoulder.
'That was the moment you should've told me I wasn't making a fool of myself,' Dani said back and gave him a pouty face as an extra respond. He laughed and shook his head.
'Does your mom wants to take pictures of us?' he asked her, ignoring the comment she had made seconds ago. Dani couldn't help but roll her eyes as she knew her mother was already waiting with her camera in her hand.
'Yeah, but if we go now we could escape it,' Dani had said, already taking Daniel's hand and making herself ready to make a run for it. Unfortunately for her, her mother heard her and called for them immediately.

'Not so fast Daniëlle, you promised me those pictures of the two of you. Come to the back, I want you guys with the sea as background,' her mom already walked out of the hallway with her camera close in her hands. Dani had sighed while Daniel looked amused at her. He came closer with his mouth and started to whisper something in her ear.
'We have to work on your escape tactics,' His breathing tickled against her ear as he had whispered the sentence close to her side. She tried to ignore the fact that he was standing so close to her and instead give him another playful push against his shoulder.
'Let's just get this over with,'

Prom was held pretty close from Dani and Dan's street in a big hall that was on the opposite side of the street from where the sea was. They could've easily walked there as both of their houses had the sand and the sea as a garden. They didn't walk though. Daniel was getting more and more recognized in his sport, racing, that he had fixed a really nice ride. Dani was Daniel's biggest fan when it comes to him racing. She would go to every race that was possible for her to go to and learned about all the rules she had to know about racing. She loved watching races, but that didn't mean she had a big knowledge of cars. She wished she had, but she just didn't and so that means that she was fine with whatever car Daniel had fixed for that night. When they arrived at the building time went on fast. They met up with their friends and had fun. They hadn't had a moment with each other until later, when all of their friends had too much to drink. Even though alcohol wasn't allowed. Daniel had pulled Dani away from their drunken friends.

'I would regret it if I didn't take my best friend for at least one dance,' Daniel had said before he put his hands around her waist. Dani couldn't help but smile at him while her cheeks started to burn.

'Just one?' Dani asked jokingly, although she was hoping for an answer that would tell her he wanted more.
'Is that you trying to flirt with me?' Daniel laughed, obviously not the answer she wanted. Dani gave him a half smile. A reaction Daniel actually hoped to get. They knew each other so well that Daniel knew her disappointed smile. The disappointed face was a sign for Daniel. He kissed her softly on the lips, waiting for a reaction. Dani was surprised by his action, mostly because she never saw a sign that he felt the same. She felt like she was flying above the clouds as she kissed him back. Both of them got into it deeper and deeper until at the end of the night they ended up in a hotel room together. Everything felt so natural between the both of them. Like it was supposed to happen all along.

However, the morning after Dani didn't know how to feel anymore. Not because she suddenly regret the night before, but because Daniel was nowhere to be seen. His clothes, gone. His phone and wallet. Gone. Everything that he brought with him wasn't in this room anymore, except for Dani. She looked around in the room, trying to find any sign of him still being here or a note for why he was gone. She tried to keep the tears in, while putting her dress from the day before on. She was hoping she knew Daniel good enough for him not to just leave her after they spend the night together like that. But she wasn't sure. Daniel always left a note or a text when they had a sleepover (just as friends) and he needed to go somewhere unexpected or even expected. Why didn't he left a note? Was he regretting the night before? Somehow Dani made it back home without a tear dropping, but when she closed the front door behind her the tears started to fall and she couldn't help it anymore. All her energy seemed to disappear away from her body all of sudden and the only thing she was able to do was falling to the ground with the help of the door as she leaned against it. It was her brother, Will, that found her like that. He was at first confused, thinking she was still drunk. But when he heard her sob he got to her as fast as he could.
'What happened?!' Will asked, trying to move his little sister to the kitchen where she doesn't have to sit down on the floor. Dani looked at her older brother. She was about to talk, but the only thing that came out of her mouth were sobs. Will hugged her tightly as he waited patiently for her sister to get everything out of her. Will was sure he never saw his little sister this heartbroken, and if she was heartbroken Daniel was always the person to be by her side first.
'I had sex with Daniel,' Dani suddenly said. Will's eyebrows raised up as he slowly pushed himself back to look at his sister.
'Was it that bad?' He asked jokingly, hoping she would laugh at it. Her lips curled up a little bit for a little while, but that changed again.
'Nohh. It was great. He just...he just-' Dani's lips started to shake as more tears started to walk over her cheek.

'What did he do?' Will asked concerned. Because how could a person that was best friend's with Will's sister for so long make her look so heartbroken? Will almost didn't know what to do.
'He left when I was asleep and didn't leave a note or a text message. He just left. Left!' Dani said crying. 'I mean, that's what Kurt does when he goes out and has a one night stand with a person he doesn't give any shit about,'

'You shouldn't compare Daniel with our hopeless little brother. Maybe it's not what you think and he will walk inside this door again in a few hours or minutes and tells you he loves you... I don't know... That's what you want right?' Will asked, hoping he said the right thing.
'I want to go back to last night,' Dani said back, drying her tears with her hand.
'It's going to be alright, trust me.' Will said, but that was a lie. Because three years later there was still no message from Daniel and it actually left Dani heartbroken. Because not only did she lose her best friend that day, but also the love of her life and she felt it was all her fault.
