You were getting ready with Stefan for his big presentation for a video game company. The plan was to drop him off and wait for him in the car.
He actually asked you to drive him because you were his biggest supporter. Whenever dad got on his nerves, you were there for him to vent.
You trot down the stairs for breakfast, Stefan was already there, reading his book.
"Ready for your big day?" You ask, snatching the box of Frosties from dad, plopping down in a chair.
Stefan nods, completely infatuated with his book. After breakfast, we hop in my car, driving to the mile high building.
You pull into the first available parking spot, both planted in your spots, staring out the window.
".....are you gonna get out?" You ask, watching your brother fiddle with his satchel.
"I'm scared" he nervously admits, his eyes darting around.
"Hey! Look at me" you snap in his face, drawing his attention to you. "Deep breaths" you both breathe together.
"Now, you're gonna go in there and present your game, and they're going to love you" you say sternly, pinching his nose.
"Will you come with me?" He asks.
You nod, forcing yourself out the car, following Stefan up to the Tuckersoft building. You allow Stefan to exit the elevator first, you creeping behind.
"Steven right?" A large man with a thick beard and a obnoxiously loud voice.
"It's Stefan" my brother corrects him.
"Sorry mate"
You tune out their conversation and scan the office. It was a really big space with a few people here and there. It was clear that the business was just setting up.
You glance back at Stefan who was walking with that guy and another, rather skinny man with bleach blonde hair and a nice taste of style.
"Who is that?" He asks, a puff of smoke drifting out into the air. "Oh uh, that's my sister"
The man looks me up and down before walking towards me. "I'm Colin" he holds out his hand to shake, I gladly accept the gesture and shake his hand.
"Stefan's older sister, might I add" I smirk at Stefan.
"Really" He takes look back at Stefan, then back to you. "Well... we won't keep you waiting too long, just a bit" he offers his roll up to pass the time.
"I can't smoke in the workplace" you decline the offer. He nods, going into a meeting room right down the hall.
Colin gave off a chill vibe that you really liked, he was also quite attractive.
After a while of just looking, you had a sudden urge to make a decision. Should you patiently wait for Stefan or Search Colin's desk for who knows what?
You dragged your feet to Colin's desk, staring at his keyboard. You opened the drawer, trying to find anything interesting.
You thought there was going to be more computer parts but it was mostly trash, paper, pens, and stapler and other desk items.
You hear the door start to creak open, the voices growing louder. You quickly close the drawer, retreating to the near by window, pretending to look at the scenery.
"Not much to look at" you hear Colin's voice, rather close to your ear. "But plenty to think about" you say, turning to face him.
He didn't move a bit as the two of you were about 6 inches apart. "We need to stop by the record store" Stefan calls.
"See you around" you step around him, following Stefan to the elevator.
When you backed out the parking space, Stefan didn't stop talking about how they accepted the game and he was going to make it just like the book and work from home.
You were thrilled for him but a little sad that you wouldn't be going back to the office to see Colin.
After a few weeks of Stefan cooped up in his room you hear dad come up the stairs. You roll your eyes ready to hear the argument that's about to go down, you focus back on the book you're reading.
Another decision swept across your brain, should you take a nap or stop the argument?
You throw you legs over the side of the bed, heading over to Stefan's room.
"JUST FUCK OFF!" You hear him yell.
An alarm goes off in your head rushing inside. "Hey, lets calm down, what's going on?" You directly ask Stefan and not dad.
"He- he's trying to make me go to the pub and I have to finish this" he explains. "I'm sorry dad"
You wanted to side with Stefan but dad was right, he could use a break. "Go eat, you deserve it"
Stefan hugs himself while walking out the room. Once he's completely out of sight, dad lets out an audible sigh.
"I'm taking him the therapist" he says before walking off. You went back to reading in your room.
There was a knock on the door, you jog downstairs, opening it up.
It was Colin, he pushes past you, letting himself inside. "Where's Stefan?" He asks.
You furrow your eyebrows at his gesture but quickly fix your face, turning to face him. "He's at his therapist but you can stay and wait for him or I can take a message"
"I'll stay if that's alright" he examines the house.
"Would you like some tea, water, juice, anything?" You ask, leading him to the TV room.
"I'm not thirsty for any drinks" he declines the offer.
You nod, turning on the TV, he takes a seat on the couch. You sit next to him, ready to engage in a conversation.
"My brother has told me all about you, you're pretty famous in the nerds eyes" you smirk.
"Video games will be the new wave in a few years, mark my words"
You poke out your bottom lip, shrugging.
"What were you doing before I got here?" He asks.
"Reading"
"I could tell you a story" he offers
You smile, rubbing your hands together. "Please do"
"There's this world where you can travel through time, change your past and witness your future, but you have to figure out how to do it first, there was one guy who thought he had figured it all out, so he told the person he trusted the most, but she thought he'd gone mad but he wanted to prove it to her, that if he jumped off a building that would see each other again, she wouldn't let him and insisted that I try to see the future instead, but he didn't know how-"
"Wait, so let me guess, he jumped anyways and didn't come back" you interrupted.
Colin shakes his head. "He eventually figured it out so he went to test his theory, and it didn't involve killing himself, one late night he stared at himself in the bathroom mirror, he pressed his hand against the glass but he fell through and landed on the other side, he saw himself down on one knee in front of the girl that begged him not to jump, she said yes, he woke back up in his bed, without a ring on his finger"
"Did he tell the girl?" You asked, intrigued with the story.
Colin shakes his head once again. "He wanted her to experience it for herself"
You slump back in the couch. "That's was good"
The door swings open, you stand up already knowing who it is. "Hey Stefan, Uh Colin is here to see you"
Colin stands, waving at your dad who just smiles and moves along, awkwardly. Stefan leads him to his room to work on his game.
As you sat on the couch you thought about how much you enjoyed his company and you were almost impatient with how long he was taking upstairs.
He eventually came back down to say goodbye. You walked him to the door to stand on the porch with him.
"You should come back and tell me another story one day" you propose.
"Or we can make our own story together"
"That sounds like a good story then" you smile, observing him inch closer to you.
"Our first chapter should be tomorrow night at the park"
"I agree" you place a hand on your cheek, embarrassed.
You were now a few inches apart, your heart started pounding against your rib cage.
He bends over to lightly kiss your cheek. "Sorry, but you smell really good"
You laugh, not remembering what type of lotion you had put on this morning. "Thank you"
"I'm off" he waves, walking to his car. "Good night Colin"
