Dave had woken up to the sound of his baby girl's voice along with her slaps to his face as he did every morning. On Dave's face held a smile. The last few hours were blissful for him and something new that he wouldn't mind getting used to. The conversation he and April held was nothing but good vibes and he couldn't wait to see her today. He low key felt like a teenager. She stressed to him that she wanted to do something low key. She wanted no parts of the media and paparazzi and he was down for the cause. April hadn't expressed why but he already knew her reasoning and respected it. He was glad that she had made time for him. All he knew was that he couldn't wait to chill with her later and see how they vibed in person and would it be better than talking on the phone. Would she be the same person or was it all a front. Dave could read people well and knew April was as genuine as they came but it wouldn't hurt to see if it was 100% real. By the end of the night he'd figure out if she was worth pursuing and hopefully she was.
He got up and started his regular routine. Dave brushed Kairi and his teeth; he washed their faces, and headed straight for the kitchen. He made Kairi breakfast and a green smoothie for himself. You know his wheat grass and bark shit. Dave was very careful with what he put in his body nowadays. Before Kairi was born he use to dib and dab in lean just like everybody else but once she was born he didn't want any of that shit anywhere near her so he had to do and be better. Of course he still smoked weed and drank alcohol and that would probably never change but he didn't do those things around her. He was on a healthy kick and so far it was good for him. Sure he endured in snacks but never over did it. Everything was done in moderation.
He spent time with Kairi watching Doc McStuffins, playing, and reading to her until he was ready to officially start their day. Kairi was always with Dave unless she was spending time with his folks. His mother normally watched her when he needed a sitter and didn't mind at all. He was her primary guardian and provider. As far as her mother she was around but that was about it...just around. She normally got her on the weekends. They use to be in love at one point but things started to make them drift apart. One thing was his career choice. She wasn't feeling him being a rapper. She even tried to blast him on social media a few times for bullshit she caused.
Since then he hadn't been in another serious relationship and honestly that was his only serious relationship. Dave was just chilling when it came to women and relationships just fucking and ducking, sloppy toppy, and on to the next. He really wasn't looking for anything serious but someone was slowly changing his mind and he had to admit he didn't mind it but he wasn't about to rush shit. Besides he needed to make sure they were both on the same page. He wouldn't dig too deep into it. Shit was still too fresh and too new and just because the conversation was good it wouldn't make him do the extreme. Dave knew that April hadn't told him everything but it didn't bother him. That was the point of getting to know each other. He also knew it was going to take some time to break April's barriers and he wondered if the time was even worth it. Was April even worth it? Something told him she was but he'd take his time and figure it out.
Dave was a real nigga so he could admit that some days the other side of his bed was quite cold and lonely. He missed something soft and warm to cuddle into him. He missed a woman he could hold in his arms while he was laying down. You know running his hands mindlessly up and down her spine, legs, thighs, arms, ass, and anywhere else his hands could reach. You know someone he didn't have to think about kicking out once the deed was done. Someone he could actually bring home and not fuck in a hotel. Someone he could make love to not only their body but their mind. If he was to get back into a serious relationship he wanted more out of it. He was getting older and he didn't want a female who was just girlfriend material. Dave wanted someone who had wife qualities. Someone who would love him unconditionally could deal with his career, his lifestyle, and someone who could hold him down through thick and thin. He wanted someone who could hold the forte down with or without him. Someone who completed him and matched his fly or made him want to level up to match hers.
He wanted real love this time. He did his dirt and played around in the streets but he knew he deserved more. Dave didn't want the type of relationship he had with his baby mother. He wanted no parts of it. It was cool in the beginning. They were friends and yes she was holding shit down while he was trying to get his feet in the door with his music but as soon as shit started turning around for him in a good way the green eyed monster showed her face...jealousy. She would try anything to dampen down his accomplishments and make it seem as if he wasn't doing enough. Dave stuck it out though just hoping she would get over whatever was bothering her and fuck with him the way she used to. At the end of the day he chalked it up to her not liking that he was doing better for himself and didn't need her the way he once did. It wasn't like he started to treat her as if he was better than her. He treated her like a man was supposed to treat a woman he loved but it was never enough.
Dave still loved her though. He always thought that if two people in a relationship could struggle together that they would make a stronger couple at the end of the day because they had been through it all and weathered the storm. Sometimes it worked but with his baby mother it was the total opposite. Their relationship was more so on and off and he was tired of running back because he was comfortable. Once they had Kairi he thought they would get back to where they use to be and they did for a few months but after that their relationship was back in the shits. No matter how hard he tried to make it work for the sake of their daughter it didn't work so he had to love her from afar and just call it quits and focus on their daughter.
Dave's baby mother couldn't even be the mother that their little girl deserved and needed her to be. That hurt him the most. She was more so like a baby sitter. Someone who was just around to post pictures of their daughter online for likes and comments but couldn't be there for her the way that she needed. In the beginning Dave was beyond disappointed with her actions but he quickly got over it because he was going to make sure that their daughter had at least one parent that would be there for her like a parent should and so far he was doing a damn good job being her father.
So whomever he dealt with on a serious level had to be more than what he once had. Yes Kairi had a mother but he wanted an actual mother figure for her. He wanted someone who would genuinely love her and treat her as if she was their own because he was a package deal and if the woman couldn't accept his baby girl then it was a no go for him. He couldn't be bothered. He wanted a woman that would be a role model and be able to teach his daughter how to be a lady and respect herself because she was a treasure.
Dave knew he was asking for a lot but he wanted someone who at least had some of the qualities he wanted. He wanted someone that could cook and clean, cared about his day and how he was feelings, someone who did things for him because they genuinely wanted to and not because they thought it would keep him around or because they felt obligated. He wanted someone who thought about him when they first woke up and be their last thought before they went to bed. There was no way around it he wanted real love. He wanted someone made for him. Dave wanted someone he could bring home to his mother. Someone she, his family, and friends would approve of. Yet he wasn't looking for love but if it landed in his lap he would happily embrace it.
Dave got Kairi and himself dressed and ready for the day in matching outfits as usual but before he left out he made sure to hit up April.
Papi East💦😝🍆: Aye ma I like how you hung up on me this morning couldn't even tell papi good morning. It's cool I'll handle ya ass when I see you tonight. I'm out with baby girl so if you text and I don't hit you right back you know why.
With that Dave grabbed Kairi's back pack filled with everything she needed for the day, scooped her up in his arms, and made his way out the door making sure to lock up behind his self. There was no need for security in New York. People spoke and kept it moving since he was a product of it. Harlem's little baby boy turned grown man and successful rapper. They were proud of him and the teens aspired to be him. Strapping Kairi in her car seat and putting her back pack beside her he grabbed her leap frog pad and turned it on. He was prepping her for school already. There was no age limit to learning. He figured the earlier and younger she was the better she'd be prepared especially since she was at the age where she soaked everything up like a sponge. Inside his cocaine white Range Rover he started it up and turned on the air conditioner since New York was damn near on a 100. Once the AC was bumping he took off and headed to his parent's place.
He was free to do as he pleased today so chilling with his family was a must. Family was important to him. He had so many losses when it came to family so he tried to cherish every moment he could with the ones closest to him. Dave knew that tomorrow wasn't promised today so when it came to family he was always there. Finally at his parent's place he and Kairi made their way inside at the right moment. From the intoxicating smell that lingered in the hallway to the inside of the house he knew his mother was in the kitchen throwing down. With his mother being Dominican and Louisiana Creole and his father Bajan breakfast, lunch, and dinner was always bound to be rocking.
"Ma" Dave called out as he set Kairi down along with her back pack. "Come on let's go bother gma" he cupped her hand in his and went straight to the kitchen following the smell and the sound of Otis Redding in the background. It was typical Sunday afternoon at the Brewster house.
"MaMa" Kairi yelled with a huge smile on her face trying to get her grandmother's attention.
"Hey MaMa's baby" Dave's mother cooed as she bent down and picked her up kissing all over her little face causing her to giggle. She absolutely loved and adored her grand baby and was so happy that she was born even if she didn't like her mother. Mama Faye thought as Kairi as Dave's saving grace. Since Kairi had been born he had matured so much and started to focus on more important things like leaving the streets alone once and for all instead of being out in the streets and trying to pursue music at the same time. He had a great opportunity and he needed to grab it by the balls and not let it pass him by, by being out in the streets getting into trouble. She also knew and understood that just because he was now a successful rapper didn't mean the streets mentality would leave him but he was out of the streets and that's all that mattered and she was proud of her baby.
"Yea just forget bout me being here. You know your son" Dave joked. He knew what it was though and was used to it. That shit happened to everybody as soon as you have a child your ass is put on the backburner and your child comes first and THEN you get noticed afterwards...sometimes.
"Hey baby boy" she hugged him as he leaned down and kissed her forehead. "What you getting into today" she asked as she turned back to the pots and pans on the stove with Kairi still in her arm.
"Nothing much I got a free day today so I figured we'd come and visit and hang out for a lil while" he answered and took a seat at the kitchen table.
"Good so you can relax for a lil while and I get to hang out with MaMa's baby" she smiled at Kairi.
"True...where pops" Dave replied and asked.
"He should be home soon. I sent him to get some plantains" she replied as Dave sat down at the kitchen table. While catching up with his mother his phone dinged alerting him that he had a new text message. He licked his lips and smirked as he opened up the text not even noticing his mother looking at him grinning. She knew that whoever it was he had been waiting on the text and it had to be a female and who ever said female was it definitely wasn't his baby mother because the smile on his face was different. It was like a teenager finally getting noticed by their crush. It was the type of smile that she wouldn't mind seeing often.
April🍑💋: Good afternoon to you too papi. I'd a said good morning but I wasn't so sure if you wanted me to be seen by lil mama. Besides I wasn't trying to interrupt her morning slap fest lol and um you ain't my daddy. You couldn't handle me if you tried 😝
Dave chuckled as he read April's text. Ole girl had a mouth on her and one way or another he was going to find out if her bark was bigger than her bite.
Papi East💦😝🍆: Bet ma we'll see if you talking all this shit later and next time you better tell papi good morning. I don't care who present.
April🍑💋: I keep telling you, you ain't bout that life papi. You don't want none of this.
Papi East💦😝🍆: lol talk ya shit ma we'll see how this plays out later. Speaking of later you figured out what you want to get into since you want to be low key.
April🍑💋: 🙄 thank you I'm a keep talking my shit lol but as far as tonight 8 or 9ish my place, drinks, a lil session (You know to see if you can hang with the big dog lol), and dinner if that works for you.

Dave and April went back and forth to the point his mother had to smack him in the back of his head. He had totally zoned out and gone into his own world.
"Ouch ma what you do that for" he scrunched his face and rubbed the back of his head mugging her.
She ignored him. "She must be special" his mother smiled at him. She hadn't seen him this way in a long time and wanted to know who this woman was and was she good for him. As long as it wasn't his baby mama, a groupie, a gold digger, or some chick trying to get ahead for a quick 15 minutes she was willing to accept. Mama Faye wanted nothing but the best for him and someone who would love him wholeheartedly and made for no one but him. She wouldn't be meeting April just yet though. Dave wanted to get to know her first before things got that serious and honestly he didn't want to share her just yet. He wanted her all to himself. You know his little secret.
"She's someone I just met nothing serious...yet" he replied trying to contain his smile but failing terribly. He knew his mother wanted to know about April but she wasn't going to bug him about it because she knew in due time he was going to tell her when he was ready.
