Vicky's POV

"Esther, you want to rethink this?"

"No," she states mater of factly.

I watch her pack the kits and other survelliance materials in a bag. She looks confident despite this being her first time playing spy kid.

"You know we could just report to the police. Let them take things from here." I try reasoning with her. "For heaven's sake Esther, Ocean breeze is off limits..."

"For you." she straps her backpack, using her free hand to grab a milk shake.

Running down the stairs once more, I give another thousand reasons why we should report to the police but she insists otherwise.

"Fine. If weren't going to the police at least let's call Nancy. She deserves to know what we're up to."

"We'll call Nancy when we get there. Can you just stop being a fuzzy pants." she drops the contents of her bag on the backseat of the car.

"Are you kidding me?"

"No I'm not. You're driving and I'm tracking."

"Esther I swear you're the most crazy human being alive. What do we explain to the police if they stop us with all these behind?"

"Blah blah blah. I've got fast fingers. They'll be in the bag before you say Jack."

Sighing I start the car and begin driving.

The town looks normal except from the absence of kids on the streets. Ever since mystery man stormed Lakeview, parents had become extra careful with their children and wards.

I take a left turn and now we're currently on the high road. The road to Orlando's looks deserted. Due to fear of the police I avoided going through the normal route. The high way is safe for now.

"Damn, Vicky I need you to take a U-turn. Like now," she screams resulting to my forceful stomp on the brake.

"Esther," I scream at her. "You could have killed us you know."

"I'm sorry but we've got to get going. Gozie's is in trouble."

I turn sharply to her. This is very confusing.

"I don't understand. How does this relate to Gozie?"

"I don't fully understand but what I think is that Gozie must have been attacked. The last note Tammy received was about him and Nancy is yet to return my calls and..."

I didn't need another shouting order to make a U-turn. Things were beginning to make sense.
Like how Lakeview community is so fucked up and got us all secondary students involved.

"Victoria be fast."

"Oh please I'm going as fast as I can. I'm already on ninety and I can see the Heavens open already." I grit my teeth as my knuckles were beginning to burn from my tight grip on the steering.

Luckily, traffic is minimal and I'm free to showcase my formula 1 talent on the streets of Lakeview.

"Jesus!"

"What again." I roll my eyes again.

"I finally get what mystery man is trying to do."

"Okay." I nod, not understanding her at all.

"The news says Gozie was involved in an accident...shush." She shuts me up before I have a chance to interrupt her.

Swallowing deeply my grip on the wheel gets tighter as we approach the community again.

"The news goes thus: Chigozie Ikenna an SS3 student of Jacob's High was involved in a ghastly motor accident along LBC road and though his body wasn't found at the scene his phone surprisingly remains intact."

"Uh!"

"Wait for it. After proper search it was discovered that the last and only call he made for the day was to another JH student by the name Nancy."

"James," I completed. "Oh my God!"

"Victoria don't you understand? Can't you see what's happening?"

"Hell no." I scream. "I only know Lakeview is as messy as hell right now."

"Yes but you're missing it. The people being targeted are rich men's kid. They're like the backbone of our country don't you see."

The traffic light got me to stop as I digested what she said.

"Are you saying that this is happening because of the forthcoming elections."

"Yes. That's..."

The police siren halts her instantly and the names from the blaring speakers couldn't be mistaken.

"Victoria Abayomi and Esther Igwe, this is the police. Kindly step down from the car with your hands above your heads. Any otherwise action will warrant us shooting."

My bulging eyes stare at the police van opposite us. "Are you kidding me? This is a.."

"Nightmare."

We alight from the car with our hands above our heads as instructed. I cast one look at the backseat, the surveillance kits smiles back at me and so does the grim faced police officer who handcuffs me instantly.

First Tammy and now us. Way to go girlfriends.

"I'm sorry for this Vicky. I know I caused it. Should have just stayed at home."

Isn't this the wrong time to say I told you so. I ignore her apologies as we sit in the van. Grim face opposite, made sure to give an extra scowl as he did so.

Get lost, I yell inside.

We arrive at the station and it feels just like yesterday when Tammy was being arrested. I silently pray she's okay wherever she is.

"Vicky, Esther." We turn to the direction of the voice immediately.

"Nancy." We rush to her, engaging in our soul lifting hug.

"I'm being accused of murder."

"We know. We'll be accused of something bigger," I sigh dejectedly.

"And you what's your definition of something bigger?" She looks up with puzzled eyes.

"Uhm!...that." Esther points to a an officer coming in with a carton containing her surveillance kits.
The smirk on his face couldn't be missed as it seems to say you'll rot in jail.

"Esther." Nancy facepalm.

This is the part where I say Hallelujah, we're still under eighteen and would definitely not be tried as adults.

"Your statements will taken now." Inspector Lawerence slides one hand into the side pocket. "That's if you have anything to say." He added the last part to spite us.

We were caught in the act with surveillance kits. What's there to say anyways.

"I'll need my lawyer." Esther blurts out of the blue.

Way to go, naval's daughter.

"A lawyer will be here soon."

"Not any lawyer, My lawyer." The effect of her boldness wasn't lost on him as he quickly cast a look around to see if anyone noticed his slight unbalance.
Trust everyone to act up, like they hadn't witnessed the little scene.

Turning back to face us, his stern face was an evidence of his annoyance. "Fine. Get him here jn ten."

"I'll need my keys."

"That's out of the question."

"Then how do I get the contact."

Oh boy. That's making him a fool of himself twice in five minutes.
You rock girl. I scream inwardly.

Accepting defeat, he nods to a subordinate who reach for her keys among her seized belongings.

Grabbing her keys, she clicked her tongue. Making sure it was loud enough to spite the inspector. I couldn't help but laugh out, Esther is sure making it a hard time for Mr Inspector.

Going back to stand with Nancy,  I squeeze her hand gently. We have proof to show our innocence. I just hope they believe us I just hope we're ahead of Mystery Man.

Hope has become a strong word and In the few minutes it'll take for Esther's lawyer to arrive; we'll stay praying and hoping.

Duh duh duh! You know that sound in movie when the unexpected is being expected.
Yeah yeah.
