A week had past since the first surgery Yugi had observed and was tested on by Yami and he slowly was able to go to more surgeries over time.

This morning wasn't all that different, but Yugi didn't mind.

He drove up to the hospital bright and early, ready to start the day and to help Yami out with his patients and surgeries and various jobs for that day. He walked through the double doors in the entrance and was greeted by the hospital scenery that he now knew all too well.

Down the hall, he could see the front desk and his eyes immediately fell on Mana, who was, once again, on the phone with another doctor and typing away at the computer. She glanced at Yugi and slightly smiled, still chattering on.

He smiled back and made his way to the desk, slightly fixing his coat and putting his hands in his pockets. He leaned on the desk, waiting for Mana to pull her conversation to a close and to get the scoop on where Yami could have been.

"Yes. Left lung was collapsed, but was successfully inflated once more last night. She is currently in recovery and will remain there for 2 weeks in order for us to keep an eye on her." Mana said into the phone.

Yugi listened, not trying to be rude, but having nothing else to do. There was always so much going on in a hospital and he felt like he was in the middle of it all. The feeling terrified him when he first went through those doors, but over time, he got used to it, and actually enjoyed it.

Mana chattered on until she pulled it to a close, explaining a patient's future surgery over the phone to another doctor and then hanging up once she was finished. She looked at Yugi, and grinned at him.

"Well here he is!" Mana giggled, "The fabled Yugi Moto!"

Yugi slightly smiled and looked back at her.

"Fabled? Come on." He snickered, playfully, "I'm legendary!"

Mana laughed. She clapped her hands together lightly and cheered quietly so as not to disturb the other nurses who worked around her.

She looked at the computer screen after her laughter died down.

"You're probably looking for Yami, huh?" She said, looking back at him through the corners of her eyes.

Yugi nodded, answering her question. He leaned on the desk and watched as she typed once more and a file came up with Yami's schedule in it. She pulled it up and read through it to herself.

"He should be...in Harriet Jame's room, #113." She read out loud to Yugi and looked back at him, "Third floor, and you should know the rest!"

Yugi laughed.

"Yes I do!" He agreed, "Thank you very much!"

He turned and left, waving to Mana and looking at her over his shoulder. She properly returned the gesture and soon returned to her work, leaving Yugi to make his way to room 113.

He turned a corner and the elevators came into view. Yugi couldn't help but let his thoughts wander. He thought about today and how busy Yami must be. He must surely need some help at one point. Being as busy as he was, he always seemed like he needed help.

But he always got the job done.

He was never a beat behind.

He was on top of it.

Yugi couldn't help but wonder how he did it. He knew that Yami had been there for a full two years, but he does thing professionals who worked for a decade did. There was something different about Yami that really set him apart from the others.

Yugi just couldn't figure out what it was, though!

And he really wanted to figure it out!

Sooner than he knew it, he reached the room and he could hear laughter from inside it. Yami's laughter stood out, but it was mixed with three others that also rang about the room. Yugi opened the door, walking in on Yami chatting with three girls, one in bed and the other two probably there to visit.

"And who might that be?" The brunette one in bed pointed, her british accent in her voice not fading.

Yami locked eyes with Yugi and stood from the chair he sat in next to the patient.

"Oh! Harry, Sheila, Leila, I would like you to meet Yugi Moto." He walked over to Yugi with a smile on his face, and gripped his shoulders from behind, "He is my student and is currently in residency with this hospital and is training to be a surgeon!"

The three others nodded their approval and smiled at Yugi.

"Hello, Yugi!" A blonde haired blue eyed girl waved, "My name is Sheila Maka! Very nice to meet you!"

"I hear Yami is an excellent doctor." The one next to her winked and giggled, "My name is Leila Rose!"

And the british brunette in the bed waved to Yugi once more, grinning politely.

"My name is Harriet James!" She introduced herself after her friends did, "But my friends here call my Harry, so I don't see why you can't!"

Yugi chuckled and waved back, "It is very nice to meet all of you. My name, as stated before, is Yugi Moto, and yes." Yugi looked at Leila, "I am very aware that I am lucky to be the student of this doctor."

Yami hid his blush from behind and looked at Yugi, raising an eyebrow.

"Is it already time to begin?" He chuckled, "But we were just having fun!!"

Yugi laughed and shrugged, nodding.

"I'm afraid so!" He laughed, looking back at Yami.

Leila, Sheila, and Harry all moaned playfully. Sheila sighed and looked back, reluctantly waving goodbye as they left. Harry joked a pout in her bed and Leila had the same feel to her action, which was sticking her tongue out at them. Yugi and Yami laughed, walking down the hall from that room.

"I'll tell ya." Yami chuckled, "Those three were a trip. I wish you would have been here earlier so that we could have met them together."

Yugi looked at him.

"They were an interesting bunch, huh?" He chuckled.

"Yep!" Yami nodded slightly, his laughter fading, "Yugi, I want to give you a tip on being a good doctor."

Yugi looked at him expectantly and listened to him intently. "Yes?" He asked, "What is it? I would like to hear anything you got."

Yami nodded, motioning to the hall around them.

"Keep this in mind. When you become a doctor, the hospital becomes your home and the patients become your family." Yami explained, "I think that is the most important note a doctor can keep."

Yugi tilted his head, a little confused by the statement Yami had just made and looked at him. Yami looked back at him and went further into detail, understanding that Yugi didn't entirely get it.

"A hospital is place of healing. It is a place of comfort, safety, and protection." Yami said, "Just like a home is a place of heart, love, safety, healing and all the above. Look around."

Yami motioned again to the doors in the hall, some open and some closed, but the two being alone either way.

"When you become a doctor, you see things many people don't see. You see victims of diseases like Cancer, Pneumonia, and others. You see victims of fires, car crashes, train wreaks." Yami continued, "They all come to you. And you have the ability to help them. You have the ability to save them. You have the ability to protect them...just as a mother and a father will do to their children."

Yugi looked at him. At the words Mother and Father, he seemed distressed. There was something that was wrong within him at the sounds of those words and Yugi could tell. Yami still went on.

"Sometimes, things will come up...Life threatening things in which someone's life rested in your hands..." Yami looked slightly down, "And it is up to you to save them. Sometimes, afterwards if they are left in rehabilitation, and are scarred, they just need some love and comfort."

Yami looked at him, a slightly sad look in his eyes.

"I grew up before many people and witnessed many things that I wish I could just forget, but they are still there in the back of my mind. I have to try to console myself by laughing and making others laugh." He said, looking down, "That's why I'm laid back and talk to my patients a lot. Sometimes...that's what they need to heal. They need to know that you care enough to make jokes about them and to make them laugh."

He went silent and looked at Yugi, his eyes watering.

"Like I wish I could have done in my own home..." He said, his voice cracking, "Just...remember th-that tip..."

Yugi looked at him and patted his back, them both stopping and sitting on a bench Yugi hugged Yami tightly, trying to comfort him, and getting a silent hug in return. Yami shook, sobbing silently into his shoulder.

Yugi couldn't help but feel his eyes water.

Something obviously happened to Yami in his life...

And he wasn't letting anyone in on it.
