I was a free bird until I had married Ayaan and for the little over one month that I had been his wife, it had been nothing but a nightmare. I was a prisoner in my house and finally I had the opportunity to free myself, maybe just a little but I was hopeful. Hopeful that things would change for the good, hopeful that God is testing me and He has written for me a better future with Ayaan and hopeful that Ayaan would love me just the way I did.

Ever since I started chatting with him before our wedding, he made me go head over heals for him for no apparent reason. He did nothing 'romantic' or anything to make me feel special and yet he made for himself, a special place in my heart.

I had the worst times with him and even though I thought really bad about him, I couldn’t help but get rid of those negative feelings towards him. Even though what he had done couldn’t be justified, his good side made me fall for him more and more and before I knew it, I was in love with him. And it was time for me to do everything in my power to make him fall in love with me. I didn’t know how to flirt or seduce, but I was confident, merely as everyone I knew loved me and I was sure as hell an awesome person which he would see someday.

I didn’t want to make any rash decisions and wanted to take my time to decide on his punishment and the two privileges that I would 'unlock'. It was weird how he made it sound so official, that was the first thing I intended to change once we got comfortable with each other. The way he told me to take my time in deciding my rewards, it did make me slow down and go over the list again. There was nothing in there which made much sense but there were things that I could live with.

Finally after observing him for three days, I went up to him with my decision. He was tired after work but extremely happy as he cracked a deal and he was getting a promotion soon. I didn’t ask much details about work as I was unsure about his response. It seemed like the perfect time to talk.

I went up to his bedroom and knocked. After a while he opened the door and looked at me with a blank face. As always he didn’t open the door fully, like there was some hidden treasure there which he thought I would steal.

“I’ve made my decision”, I said and gave him my biggest smile. I made my way to the drawing room after him and sat on the couch next to him.

“Go ahead”, he said. He looked so good when he was all relaxed and happy, I would trade my life to see him happy that way forever.

I opened the file, a copy that he had given me and read, “The privileges that I would like to 'unlock' are access to WiFi and permission to revoke one of your rules.”

I sensed a bit of uneasiness in him when I said that. “Why revoke a rule when you have other privileges that you can unlock?”

I sighed and continued, "Let’s see, I’m comfortable talking to my parents once a week, I’m not a big fan of T.V, we can control the temperature of the house so opening or not opening the windows doesn’t make much of a difference to me, I’m very much comfortable cooking your choice of meal, it helps me know you better”, I smiled and looked at him while I said that, hoping to get a reaction but to vain, his face was as still as a rock.

“If lunch or dinner is once a month, I might as well skip it as it doesn’t make any difference and I already eat with you everyday. You were really sweet to add furniture to my room and I love my room so much that I would love to spend my day there than in the drawing room. So it leaves me with just two options”, I sighed again. This was the first time when I said these many words to him. Probably the last time too, depending on how he responded.

“ You are smarter than I want you to be”, I smiled ear to ear and it dropped when he continued, “and I don’t like that.”

“Well you might as well get used to it as I’m not going anywhere”, I said and I thought I heard a chuckle. I looked at him and he composed himself. Did that actually make him happy?

“And what rule would you like to revoke?”

“The shower one”, I said with desperation. It was gross to not shower for a week. Ever since I had signed the file, I followed all the rules and this was the most difficult to keep up. Though I didn’t sweat, thanks to the air conditioned house, it was still not ok. No matter now much I kept myself clean, I had to stand under the hot shower everyday.

“Ok, fair enough”, he said and got up.

“Hold on. Your punishment is still pending.”

He turned around and looked at me, “ you can’t be serious.”

“We had made a deal.”

He sat again and said without a speck of interest, “Fine. Let’s just get through with it.”

“You need to take me our for ice cream once a week for a year.”

“That’s ridiculous. What makes you think I’m going to agree to that?”

“No, it’s not ridiculous and besides, nobody likes punishments. That’s the whole point of it right?. It’s not really a punishment if you enjoy it.”

He thought for several moments and said, “ I’ll think about it” and immediately got up and went to his room without giving me a chance to say another word.

That went pretty well. Let’s go make dinner.

I went to the kitchen and started working on the dinner. I opened the top drawer and pulled out the schedule sheet, in which Ayaan had given me a printed time table of what he eats and when. Luckily there was nothing there that I couldn’t cook. Since he wasn’t a good cook himself, he was used to preparing basic meals and wanted to continue that. Dinner was almost ready when he came out of his room with a paper in his hand. He went to the dining table and motioned me to join him.

“Here. Sign this”, he said and sat on the chair. I took the paper from his hand and it read.

                                Notice

This is to inform that I will be rewarding a privilege and will be revoking one of the rules for Safa Hayath.
The privilege: Access to WiFi.
Revoke: Allowed to shower once a week.
Also a privilege of adding a piece of furniture will be taken out of the list as it has already been attained.

As discussed, I will be accepting the punishment and will be taking Safa Hayath for ice cream once a week(Saturday) for a year.

Ayaan Rasheed

This man, my lawfully wedded husband, the man that I intended to share the rest of my life with, is really insane. I mean, who does that? It sounded ridiculous and funny. As much as I was tempted to make fun or say something ridiculously mean about it, I couldn’t do that. Without saying a word or moving any muscle on my face, I took the paper and signed it. I handed it over to him and he signed it as well.

“Is the dinner ready?”, he asked while looking at the paper.
“Yeah almost”, I said trying not to laugh at the fact that he was so intensely looking at that funny paper in front of him, and I went inside the kitchen.

**********

“That was good”, he said and smiled at me.

“I’m glad you enjoyed it”, I was beyond happy that day and was surprised of how well I was able to cook. My mood sure reflected in my dinner. I cleaned up the kitchen and was heading to my room when he called out.

“Give me your phone.”

“My phone is dead. I couldn’t use it anyway so I didn’t put it up for charging.”

He wrote something on the notepad and handed it to me. I looked at it and it was some numbers and alphabets jumbled up.

“It’s the WiFi password.”

It just couldn’t get any better. It was by far the best day since I had been married. Getting two rewards, ice cream every week, delicious dinner and then the WiFi password. There was no control to the joy that I had inside me which was waiting to burst out, which I sure did once Ayaan was in his room and I had locked my door. In a hurry I put my phone on charging  and I couldn’t control the smile on my face. I crashed on my bed and thought to myself that it was so stupid to be happy to get access to WiFi. It had become a necessity in every household and I had got that as a luxury. I shouldn’t be happy about it but instead be saddened by my state.

I hit my left shoulder, pretending to hit the devil angel to stop putting negativity in my head. I had to have a positive approach to life, it was the only way to be happy. I drifted off to a peaceful deep sleep thinking about the ridiculous 'notice' that I had signed earlier.
