Kakashi sat up in bed, his untameable mess of hair was even more disheveled than usual. He had not gotten any sleep that night. He and Minato Sensei finished patrolling the castle around midnight, however; he couldn't sleep due to the feeling of being swallowed by the large squishy bed. When he had returned, he had instantly put back on his mask, the feeling of not having it on put him on edge. Also the fact that it helped to prevent strong scents from affecting his sensitive nose. The other persons in the room were still asleep, so he decided to get ready quickly before they awoke. Before he headed downstairs to the Common Room, he removed his mask, and settled for only using his haite-ate to cover his eye.

He hoped that he wouldn't get reprimanded for wearing it, however it made it easier to keep his sharingan eye closed. Because he didn't have the Uchiha body to complement the eye, it drained his chakra stores considerably. He needed more than just the eyelid to prevent the sharingan from activating.

But before he could even exit the dorm, Harry shot straight up out of bed at the sound something whailing. He made his way over to his trunk and pulled out a small device and proceeded to tie it up and shove it in a sock.

"Sorry about that" Harry said looking regretfully around the room as the other boys awoke from their sleep. "It was just my Sneakoscope. Bloody thing doesn't work." He said apologetically.

"What's a Sneakoscope?" Kakashi asked.

"You don't know what it is? I grew up around muggles and even I know what it is." Harry said a little surprised.

"It's a Dark Arts detector, it emits a  shrill noise in the presence of deception, for instance, when an untrustworthy person is near or when a deceitful event takes place nearby." Ron explained for Kakashi, in the same matter that he had explained to Harry. "Except the one that Harry has is either extremely sensitive or bloody worthless."

"Ok, so then what is a muggle?" Kakashi didn't really understand wizards. They had the strangest names for the strangest of things. Their entire culture was different too, although he wasn't one to talk considering what they might be thinking of him.

"How could you be a wizard if you don't know what all these things are? I mean I know you come from a different country, but you really don't know what a muggle is?" Harry questioned as if it were the easiest concept in the world to understand.

Neville decided to explain upon seeing Kakashi's face fill up with rage. "A muggle is someone who is not a wizard, and to further that a squib is someone with a background of magic, however they cannot use it. My family thought I was a squib when I was born, however they were wrong." Neville elaborated.

Kakashi bowed his head in thanks towards Neville for explaining without asking another question in the process. He then walked downstairs without saying a word. He really needed to find the Library so that he could do some research so that he could stop looking like an idiot compared to these wizards.

Once Kakashi was out of earshot Harry gestured towards Ron to come over. "Kakashi is a fourth year wizard like us, but he doesn't know anything about the wizarding world." Harry said

"Well, he's from Japan right? Or somewhere close to it, so maybe they just have different terms for it." Ron suggested.

"Maybe. But I didn't see him pack a wand or anything. And he seemed surprised last night when Hermione transfigured his fork into chopsticks, I don't think he's ever seen magic before."

"Odly enough, I got the same impression." Ron said "let's ask Hermione about it later ok?"

"Yeah, all right."

In the Great Hall

Hermione was already in the Great Hall when Kakashi arrived, and seeing as how he was supposed to befriend the trio (to his utter annoyance) he decided to sit with her.

"Good morning Hermione-san."Kakashi said in his friendliest tone. Which sounded completely foreign to his ears. It was a good thing that Minato Sensei wasn't awake yet or else he would have hugged his student to death at hearing the friendly gesture.

Hermione looked up from the newspaper she was reading and smiled back at him, then went back to reading. Kakashi was glad that she didn't bombard him with questions like the night before. After she and Kakashi were done eating the rest of the schools students started filing in. Harry and Ron were with the group and joined them and started eating.

Professor McGonagall walked up to them and handed them their school schedules.

"First we have Herbology with Hufflepuffs, then Care of Magical Creatures...damn, we're still with the Slytherins." Ron said distastfully. Harry and Hermione also groaned.

"And then we have double Divinations with Professor Trelawney." Harry said just as disappointed.

"You should have given that up like I did, besides Arithmacy is far more interesting." Hermione said.

Kakashi found out later that apparently the Divinations professor, Sybil Trelawney kept predicting Harry's death. He also found out that he had the same schedule as Harry and Ron, which didn't surprise him. It was his responsibility to make sure that Harry was safe, so having the same classes ensured that he was always there if something were to occur.

After Herbology class (which Kakashi didn't do half bad in, considering he had learned a lot of medical ninjutsu from Rin before she died) they made their way down to Hagrids hut. Who was apparently the Professor for Care of Magical Creatures.

Hagrid was standing outside his hut, his boarhound Fang was sitting right next to him. That is until the dogs eyes landed on Kakashi and he bounded up towards the ANBU, squashing him and started growling. Kakashi didn't move, because in order to lift the large mammal, he would have to use chakra. So he turned his neck to the side to show off his vital parts to the animal. Fang then started licking his face to Kakashi's displeasure of being covered in drool.

"Fang! Bad dog!" Hagrid yelled as he attempted to move Fang off of Kakashi. "I'm so sorry, are you alright!?" He asked more worried than he should be, pulling Kakashi up by his collar lifting him an inch or so off the ground expecting over him, looking for any injuries.

"I'm all right Hagrid-san. Dogs are always like this around me. You can go ahead and put me down now" He stated, in an attempt to try and calm the half giant. Who immediately apologized and set him back down.

"So, yur don' mind?" He asked confused.

"No, in fact I love dogs."

"Well good, I didn't want the're to be another acc'dent like last year." Hagrid said. "Anyway, les get started wit the lesson." He said once he saw that all the Gryffindor and Slytherins were present.

"If I were you, I would have made that oaf pay for not keeping another one of his bloody animals under control." A blonde male said to Kakashi.

"I'm Draco Malfoy by the way, pureblood. But since I told you my last name I guess you already knew that." Draco said smugly. "Who are you?"

"Kakashi Hatake." Kakashi said bored.

"I heard that the magical community in Japan is better organized than ours, they don't allow mudbloods to attend school, something we should have done long ago." Draco said crudely, glaring at Hermione in the process.

"It's to bad that you have to be hosted by Gryffindor, and be subject to association with this sorry lot. A half-blood, blood traitor and mudblood. If you were with Slytherin, you would have received the honor you deserve, being a champion and all."

"Shut up Malfoy!" Ron said angrily.

"And what are you going to do about it weasle-bee." Malfoy said.

Ron started forward, but was held back by the arm by Kakashi. "Leave him alone, he's not worth it. Not yet anyway." Kakashi said, Ron looked back and forth between Kakashi and Malfoy and knew that he was right.

"Whatever." Ron said sourly.

For the rest of class, they had to figure out what kind of food Blast Ended Skrewts ate. Harry thought they were the most horrible crearures, everyone had burns from the blast end. And no one was able to get very far in feeding them. Kakashi seemed to be the one with the fewest burns, however he also didn't seem to be enjoying himself either.

After lunch, they headed to Divinations. Kakashi didn't quite understand why Harry and Ron disliked the teacher so much, the Patille twins absolutely loved her. Once they were near the trapdoor that led up to the classroom, Kakashi was almost knocked down by the harsh sent of insence. He slammed into the stone wall covering his nose with his hands, his eyes began watering. Harry looked over worried.

"Are you ok?" Harry asked.

"The smell is really strong." Kakashi said in a low whisper. He thought that the Leaky Cauldron was bad, but this was the worst reaction to scent he had ever had (Besides blood). Kakashi for the first time in his life damned his Hatake nose and slowly made his way away from the wall that was supporting him. He grudgingly climbed the ladder to Divinations, deciding it might be better to just hold his breath. Harry watched him wearily and followed behind.

The three boys decided to sit together at one of the round tables. Kakashi upon seeing the Professor, thought she looked like a giant insect. She seemed to be in some sort of daze when she looked at him.

"Blood... I see blood surrounding you child. Such suffering and death you have caused, and much grief you have endured because of it. I see a spinning eye... red as blood, Son of the White Fang. You are he who has copied over 1,000 jutsu's, and who can see things the naked eye cannot even fathom." She said.

The class was silent as they listened to her. Harry noticed that Kakashi's hands were trembling, and wondered if what she had said was true. If so, he would have to get to the bottom of it.

"Sakumo... your death, will come soon." Professor Trelawney finished. Harry saw Kakashi flinch at the name, and wished that Hermione was here. She would be able to decifer her words and help them understand it.

"I'm sorry, but you see my name is Kakashi." He said trying to falsify her words. She looked at him puzzled.

"The stars do not lie child."

"Of course not." He said trying to humor her, the rest of the class also seemed to not believe her words. Good thing to, because everything she said was true. Kakashi did not know how she knew all of that, he would have to ask Dumbledore tonight.

After Divinations, they decided to head back to the Dormitory, where they met up with Professor McGonagall.

"Kakashi, you look as white as a ghost." She said. Which was true, Professor Trelawney had really shaken him up, and made him remember things he never wanted to see again. McGonagall took in the expressions of the other students and sighed.

"What student this year has Professor Trelawney predicted to die?" She asked knowingly. Harry and Ron looked at Kakashi, answering her question.

"Mr. Hatake, I advise you to not dwell on Sybils words. She has predicted the death of one student every year for the past 16 years. And let me reassure you that none of them had died. She made the same prediction on Harry last year and he is still with us. So cheer up." She said kindly and left.

In Minato Sensei's office

Minato leaned up against his deak, exhausted from the day. He was slightly upset that he hadn't had Kakashi's group for his first day, instead he had gotten a pair of enthusiastic devil twins... Fred and George. They both reminded him of his beloved student Obito, making his heart ache. He hopped that Kakashi had a better day than he had. However, one could never get what they wanted. He felt the chakra radiating off of Kakashi in fumes before he even came through the door.

"Minato Sensei, may I please come in?" Kakashi asked.

"Hai" Minato replied while yawning. Kakashi came in covered in sweat, his hands had cuts on them and he seemed to be slightly limping. Minato knew that he had just come back from an intense training session.

"Let me see your hands Kakashi" Minato said.

"I'm ok"

"That wasn't an option." Minato said sternly. He knew that the only way to get Kakashi to listen was to order him directly. But as much as Minato hated using that power, it was necessary. Kakashi reluctantly showed Minato his hands, there were several large bruises and long, deep gashes. Minato grabbed his first-aid kit and started bandaging the boys hands.

"Tonight is my turn to guard the castle, however; it is still your responsibility to be sure that Potter does not leave Gryffindor Tower. I've heard a lot of crazy stories from the other professors and apparently Harry is a magnet for getting into trouble, along with his two friends Ron and Hermione." Minato said while tying the last bandage. "I will see you tomorrow in class."

With that Kakashi left, feeling greatful for his Sensei. Minato knew that Kakashi had a hard time talking about his feelings, and since becoming ANBU, it had only gotten worse. Minato couldn't comfort Kakashi in the same way he had for Obito and Rin. So he had to result to small gestures, like bandaging a wound or giving the boy a small smile. And as much as he wanted to hug and comfort his depressed student, he knew that Kakashi wasn't ready for that. But he would be there for him when the time came.
