*Asiah's POV*
Victoria was right about her 'connections' I don't know how but she got us family attorney, Rodney Hopkins, he thinks we're more likely to get Alexis because we're a stable relationship and have proper finances for raising a child.
“You ready to go?” Elijah asks me
“Yes” I look at myself one more time before grabbing my purse I walk out the bathroom and he's sitting on the bed in a suit
“Damn, babe you really know how to clean up” I say winking at him
“Thanks babe” he says plying with his tie.
With custody cases like this one the child usually has to stay with a group home but Rodney pulled some strings so Alexis will be staying with Victoria until the case is over.
Elijah's phone rings “Babe can you get that?” he asks
“Yeah” I pull his phone out his pocket “Hello”
“Hey, Asiah, are you guys on your way to the court house?”
“Yes, we'll be there soon”
“Okay, see you guys soon”
“Bye, see you soon”
“Who was that?” Elijah asks
“Rodney”
“What did he want? Is something wrong?”
“Babe, relax he just wanted to know if we're on our way”
“Oh, I'm sorry I'm just a little nervous”
I rub his leg “That's okay so am I”
We walk into the courthouse “Hi, you guys ready?” Rodney asks us
“Yeah, but we're kinda of nervous” Eli says intertwining his hand with mine
“That's okay just keep breathing and try not to look nervous in front of the judge”
“Okay”
“Let's go”
We walk into the room already sitting at their table is Cassidy and her lawyer who is also her brother he looks like the male version of his sister. We sit at our table “We're going to wait until the judge gets here then we'll both opening statements”
“Is that all--” before I could finish my question the bailiff starts talking
“All rise the honorable Judge Richard is here”
Everyone in the courtroom stands up the Judge Richard come in his black robe then sits on the bench
“Bailiff please read the case file”
The bailiff opens a manila folder
“Cassidy Hall vs. Elijah Jackson & Asiah Wright about the custody of Alexis Dominique Jackson”
“Okay counsel you may began”
“Your honor this is a simple custody my clients Elijah Jackson and Asiah Wright are engaged couple who have busy lives; _ he stands up and points to Elijah _ Mr. Jackson is currently in medical school practicing to becoming a pediatrician while _ he points to me_ Miss. Wright owns her dance studio. Even though both those activities keep Mr. Jackson and Miss. Wright busy they still make time for Alexis Jackson the child that they've been raising together over the past year” Rodney says giving his opening statement he sits back down beside Elijah
Jermone, Cassidy's brother and attorney stands up “Good morning Judge Richard”
“Morning Counsel”
“Miss. Hall is the biological to Alexis and has every right to have custody of her daughter” then he sits back down
“Mr. Hall is that you whole opening statement?” Judge Richards asks
“Yes”
“I was expecting little more from Miss. Hall's counsel we shall continue Bailiff bring in the tv”
The bailiff leaves the room and comes back with a television on a cart then he turns it on and on the screen is Alexis and some lady.
“Who's that?” I ask Rodney
“She's a social worker” he whispers
“And what is doing with Alexis?”
“She's just going to ask her a few question and pictures”
I nod my head
“I'm Julie” the woman says
Alexis doesn't make eye contact with the lady
“Cat got your tongue?” she asks
“No, I'm not suppose to talk to strangers” she says
'That's my girl' I think to myself
“It's okay baby she's a friend of your parents” Victoria voices says
I can't believe I didn't notice her sitting in a chair in the corner
Alexis make eye contact with the Julie
“I'm Alexis”
“It's nice to meet you,would be okay if I ask you a few questions?”
“Okay”
“Cool, so I'm going to ask you so easy questions..like what's your whole name?”
“Alexis Dominique Jackson”
“Good, when is your birthday?”
“May 9th”
“Good, how old are you?”
“Four”
Julie nods her head “Okay I'm going to ask more questions but they might be a little bit harder and if you don't know the answer that's fine”
“Okay”
“What's your dad's name?”
“Elijah”
“What's your mom's name?”
“Asiah”
“Who wakes up in the morning?”
“Mommy or daddy”
“Who cooks your breakfast?”
“Mommy or daddy”
“Who takes your daycare?”
“Mommy or daddy”
“Who takes takes of you when you've got a tummy ache?”
“Mommy or daddy”
“Okay...now I'm going to show you some pictures and I need you to tell who they are”
“Okay”
Julie puts a picture of Elijah in front of Alexis
“Daddy”
Then there is a picture of Cassidy
“Umm I don't know I think that's daddy's friend”
“You don't know who this is?”
“Daddy's friend?”
“Do you know her name?”
“I don't remember”
“Okay”
She puts a picture of me on the table
“Mommy”
“Guess what?”
“What?”
“We're done, thank you for answering my questions Alexis”
“Your welcome”
The bailiff turns off the television
“Mr. Hall would you like to explain why the child can't not identity your client?” Judge Richard asks
Jermone stands up “Miss. Hall gave Alexis to her father the day she was born but that doesn't mean she doesn't want to exclude from her only daughter's life”
“Objection your honor my clients don't want the child to be confused she's only four years old”
“Sustained” he says banging his gavel
“Counsel just admit that his clients had exclude my client from seeing Alexis” Jermones says
“On May 9th the day of the child's birth Miss. Hall told Mr. Jackson she didn't want anything to do with the child”
“Order in my court!”
“Sorry your honor” Jermone and Rodney say in unison
“Since counsel doesn't know how to act we'll call it a day and we'll resume tomorrow morning at 8”
Jermone and Cassidy leave the courtroom first then we leave after them
We all leaving the court room “I'm go use the ladies room really quick”
“Okay, I'll be here waiting”
I walk down the hall I hear Cassidy and Jermone talking their in a empty conference room the door is cracked open a little bit so I can hear them too.
“This is all your fault!” he yells at her
“How's is this my fault?”
“You just had to date that thug I told you that he wasn't good enough for you but just wouldn't listen”
“Shut up Jermone,”
He grabs her arms pulling him close to her “Your the reason why mom and dad are divorced your the reason why our family fell apart are you proud of yourself Cassidy? you still the same little whore you were when your eighteen” he yells pushing her away from him
“I”m leaving” she storms out and stops right in front of me “What!?”
“I finally get it”
“Get what?”
“Why you here and why your doing this?”
“Why?”
“Because you come from a broken family; your parents are divorced, your brother hates you, and your daughter doesn't even know you no wonder your such a bitch. The only people that loved were Elijah and Alexis and what you do? You push them away because you thought it would keep your family together when really your family wasn't even a family just a bunch of people all in the same house. Am I right?”
“You think you've got everything figure out don't you?” she shakes her head “This is so much more you'll never know” she says walking away
I shake my head 'Does she really think she going to get Alexis? You must be crazy I'm sorry that you had a crappy family but that doesn't mean you get to come and destroy mine' I think to myself
“Can I talk to you for a moment?” Jermone says breaking me from my thoughts
“No” I say
He grabs my arms pulling inside the room that he and sister were just occupying
“Let go of me”
He throws me up against the wall pinning my arms above my head with one hand
“Ow...get off me” I say clenching my teeth
“Your such a hood rat..I've never been with a women like you” he says running his free hand under my blouse rubbing my side
I twist trying to get out his grip but he just grips my wrist tighter
He moves his mouth to my ear “I bet your a freak in bed, aren't you?” he kisses my neck while rubbing my side he unbuttons my jeans he's about to stick his hand in my jeans when
“I only came back from my purse—what the hell is going on?” Cassidy says
Jermone lets go my wrist and turns his head to his sister “Nothing..right--”
I knee him right in the crock I rush out of the room I button my jeans and continue down the hall it's not until I run into Elijah that I stop
“Whoa, babe, what's your rush?”
“Can we please just go home?”
“Yeah_ he looks into my eyes _ what's wrong?”
“Nothing” I look behind me to see in anyone is behind us
“Asiah--”
“I. Want. To. Go. Home.”
“Okay, let's go”
I basically run to the car as soon I get in I lock my door then Elijah gets in as well
“Are you sure everything okay?”
“Yes, now start the car”
He sighs “Okay”
I lean my head against the passenger window I close my eyes but I all I see is Jermone's face.
