Chapter Two

                Danni’s POV

As I unlock the front door, I can hear wolves howling in the distance. For some reason I'm not scared, but comforted. All my life I have never feared any type of animal and I am a sucker for dogs. Big or little I am definitely a dog person. Also I have always been fascinated by wolves; they are so mysterious and intriguing to me.

Getting back to what I am doing, I carry the things that I packed in my car which is mostly clothes and some kitchen stuff. I was lucky enough to buy a place that's already furnished and I honestly like the most of it. The previous owner had put sheets on the couches and chairs and there wasn’t really a lot of dust to clean up. I remember the realtor said that the closest neighbor would come over to clean and check on the house.

Making many trips between the house and my car, I walk into the kitchen after I drop the last box on the floor and I really wasn’t expecting there being any food and on the kitchen island. There was a gift basket with a letter that read, “Welcome to the Neighborhood! –The Silvers and Andrews.”

“What neighborhood are they referring to and I really hope they don’t expect me to pay them back.” I laugh out as I sit down the note and continue to explore the lovely home.

The kitchen and bathrooms were actually updated to my surprise and I loved the colors used throughout the home. I couldn’t help feel that this house was made for me. I love how the style of the house was country, but modern.

For the rest of the afternoon, I put my things away and clean up every room. After I was done, I looked in the fridge and I was surprised to see that it was packed with the essentials. There was even a bottle of wine chilling in the freezer and I decide that I had to repay the people who did all this; it wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t.

I decide that I need some fresh air and walked out to the back porch before sitting down on the beautiful hand craved swing to watch the sun shining on the lake. I could feel my body relaxing and I could feel myself drifting to sleep when I hear a car coming up to my house. Quickly jumping up, I ran to my purse in the kitchen and grab my 9mm glock and looked out the window in the front .

A woman jumps out of a Jeep and helps two little boys out the back sit, I quickly hide my gun in my waist band before walk out to the porch to greet them. They look harm less, but there have been times where someone would use children to lure me in. I have a soft spot for them.

Looking over the woman, she’s drop dead gorgeous; she has dark curly hair that contrasted from her crystal blue eyes. She looked to be a few years older than me, maybe in her early twenties and was around 5’9 compared to my 5’4. The two little boys also her dark hair, but one had blue eyes and the other had hazel eyes and I knew right away that they were her children.

I walk off the porch to meet them and smiled because you could tell that they were a happy family and I find myself envying that.

“Hi my name is Alexis Andrews and I live a few miles down the road,” she said as she sticks her hand out to shake. I held her hand and could tell she was strong.  The two boys were on both of her sides and hiding behind her long flowing shirt. Alexis looks down and continues, “These two are Kent and Kendall.”

I couldn’t help but smiled at the fact that they were the cutest twins I have ever seen. “My name is Danielle Brooks but call me Danni.” Looking down at the boys I add, “I believe I have some chocolate cookies inside that I need someone to help me eat.” They look on their faces were priceless as they look at their mother for approval.

Alexis laughed and quickly said yes. They ran to the porch and disappeared into the house while we laughed our butts off at their behavior. Right away I felt comfortable with Alexis and I knew that we will get along.

As we walked into the kitchen the boys were at the island grubbing down on the cookies. They were laughing at some little twin joke and it warms my heart to the core.

I look at Alexis, “Would you like a glass of wine, it’s the least I could do since I’m pretty sure that you were the one who left the basket and food,” I asked.

“I would love a glass and I was happy to do it. It’s finally nice to see someone in the old house,” replies Alexis.

Getting two glasses down from the cabinet, I poured us each a glass and ask the boys if they would like a glass of milk to go with the cookies. They quickly nod their heads in agreement and it was funny to see how in sync they were with one another. Once the boys were settled, Alexis and I walked to the back porch.

“So are you settled in yet?” asks Alexis.

“Yeah, I really didn’t have a lot to unpack and I didn’t have to go out yet to buy food, which you really didn’t have to do that,” I answer with a smile.

Alexis looks at me sheepishly and says, “Well I got really excited that someone bought this place and it’s nice to have some my age around, I hope we can become great friends.”

I could tell that she really meant that and I say, “I would really love that and thank you for making me feel so welcome.” I hug her and for the next half an hour we talk and got to know one another.

Around five, Alexis said that she had to head home to fix dinner and I walked her and the boys to the car where they continue to talk about their new hot wheels play set. Soon I was on the porch waving goodbye to my new friends. I sadly think to myself that’s probably the most human interaction I have ever had in my life.

Jace’s POV

Why is there so much paperwork? As soon as I am done with a pile of forms, two more just magically appear out of thin air.

I sit down my pen and look out the window to see Alexis and my two nephews playing tag. A smile tugs at my lips and I watch them; I want that one day. Alexis is mates with Erik who is also my beta and best friend since childhood. I was happy that they found out they were mates, but I couldn’t help feel depressed because I really want my mate.

“Hey Jace still going over paper work I see.”  Erik says as he walks in and I hear the humor in his voice.

“Yeah, trying to get everything done before the big barbecue next week.” I reply as I take my seat.

“Which reminds me, Alexis just got back from the new neighbor’s house and wants to invite her to the barbecue.” He says with a smile.

Before I could say anything, Alexis comes into the room asking, “Can she? Please say yes, because she is the nicest person I have ever meant and the boys love her which says a lot!”

I couldn’t help but laugh because growing up, Alexis didn’t have a lot of female friends because they would use her to get to me since I'm the Alpha. You can say that I am pretty good looking; I’m 6’4 and I have grey eyes and light brown hair that is cut shorter on the sides than the top. Whereas Erik is the complete opposite with his short blond and hazel eyes and stands at 6’2.

“I know that I can’t say no to my favorite little sister and I have to make sure that no one shifts in front of her.” I quickly answer and covering my ears knowing she is going to scream.

“YAAAAAY, thank you so much! I know you guys will love Danni, she is so nice and really beautiful.” replies Alexis as she quickly kisses me and then Erik on our cheeks while running out the door to go make the plans for the new guest.

Erik smiles at me and says, “Poor girl doesn’t realize what she is getting into with Alexis.”

“Yeah she sure doesn’t. Do you know anything about this Danni?” I quietly ask wondering about the new girl.

“All I know is that she travels a lot, works from home, and she is single.” answers Erik.

I nod my head wondering why a single woman would move all the way out to Mystic Springs by herself. I’m interrupted by the sound of my cell phone. Erik leaves as I answer it and I put the new girl on the back-burner as I handle business.
