Previously in Chapter Twenty Five
Seth sighed at my question and pulled his shirt over his head, "I had to make sure each of the men involved in tonight were caught," He admitted truthfully, "You had a lot happen tonight, I'm sorry I wasn't there," He added.
I bit into my bottom lip, "I don't know how I even remembered the thought of healing, it hasn't been mentioned in a long while, but I was watching Jeremy look down at Nicole and I listened to them tell each other they 'never stopped' and I needed to do something." I explained, "It was quite overwhelming though, it took a lot out of me, I wanted to break down crying right after but somehow held it together," I told him truthfully, turning into his touch as he reached out and grabbed the hem of my shirt and pulled it up over my head. "The other thing though I could do with out, I hated knowing someone hurt you..."
Seth nodded, "If it makes you feel better they healed rather quickly tonight, you probably sent a bit of that healing my direction," He laughed softly.
Smiling at his words, I reached out and touched along faint line on his chest before moving my fingers up over a faint outline of a bite mark along his shoulder, happy to see that they weren't open wounds. "You'll have to tell me what happened in the morning," I told him softly, gasping as he pulled me off the counted and quickly pulled at the remaining bits of clothing before pulling me into the stream of water.
Chapter Twenty Six
The next morning we slept in, curled into each other's bodies. We didn't find sleep right after the shower, our hands too distracted by each other, but when we did fall into sleep just after five in the morning it was obvious that even in sleep our bond didn't want any space between the two of us.
When my eyes fluttered open, I was greeted with a soft kiss on the lips. Pulling my body against his own, Seth smiled sweetly in my direction, "We should probably put some clothes on before we head down stairs," He smirked, his words bringing to attention how awake his bare body truly was.
I shook my head and laughed at his words, "No really..." I laughed, quite amused with his statement, "I was actually thinking I'd go downstairs just as I am this morning, feel the breeze," I offered, throwing back the blanket and standing up from the bed, my body completely bare before his hungry eyes.
Seth smirked and quickly reached out, grabbing onto my hips and pulling me back into his bed, his hands sliding up my sides and holding me tightly to himself, "Nudity is quite normal around here with the transformations and everything, but I strongly suggest unless you want everyone to see Wolfy take you over the countertop in the kitchen and claim you to each wolf that lays eyes on your beautiful skin, that you seriously rethink that statement," He smiled.
"Hm, that's how it works then, Wolfy would have to claim me in front of another male if they saw me...So possessive," I mumbled.
Nodding, Seth smiled, "You've already honestly been claimed by me, the mark and my scent coat your skin at all times, but it's definitely more of a possession thing to Wolfy to keep others from looking at your skin sexually," He explained.
I nodded, "Well then thankfully I am not into expressing my sexual nature to anyone but you and won't have to have Wolfy take me in such a way,"
Seth smiled, and laughed faintly under his breath, "Get dressed my love, lets get this morning over with...We'll probably have to have a pack meeting and once the pack is at ease then I am going to take you out, just the two of us to forget everything that has been happening lately," He spoke softly, reaching out and brushing my hair from my face.
I couldn't help but smile at his words, nodding enthusiastically at the idea.
After slipping into my clothes, Seth took my hand and pulled me towards the door, my eyes glancing in the direction of Nicole's closed bedroom door, "I think your brother slept in Nicole's room last night," I whispered softly as we walked down the steps.
Seth glanced at me with raised eyebrows, "As in..." He asked for elaboration.
I shrugged, "As in, when she was ready for bed he helped her upstairs and never came back down," I explained, not having much more of an explanation than that. Confused, Seth shrugged at the idea before I continued, "She was pretty bad off last night, he was begging for her to stay awake. I honestly think there was this fear in the back of both of their mind that you only get one chance at life, and it wasn't worth it not to fall for each other, I think the idea of Kenton being gone didn't hurt either," I added.
Reaching the bottom of the steps, Seth kissed the back of my hand, "I'm sure you're right, you always see through to the brighter side of things," He agreed as we moved into the kitchen.
We were greeted by silence as we stepped into the kitchen, all eyes were on the two of us, all conversations dropped in an instant.
It was quite packed in the kitchen, everyone was already around the table: Mel, Hunter, Amanda, Derek, Nicole, Colton, Jeremy, Carter, Ren, and countless other faces I recognized but couldn't remember names for the life of myself. Derek stood from his seat, his eyes not leaving mine as he spoke, "We couldn't be more grateful for you this morning Corey, what a perfect addition you are to this pack and this family. I know there was doubts among the pack at first, but news spreads quickly, and your gift was the first thing out of everyone's mouth this morning. We are more than blessed to have you around and couldn't begin to thank you for what you did for Nicole," He cleared his throat as his emotions began to catch up with him, "We all faced challenges yesterday night, and I know I can speak for everyone that not having to loose another pack member was such glorious news," He finished and everyone around the table began to clap.
I felt my chest tighten at the words and felt Seth lean into my side, wrapping his arm around my waist as his pressed a kiss to my forehead. When the clapping calmed down, I smiled at everyone's watching gaze and nodded, "I don't know what to say, thank you," I mumbled faintly.
Pulling me further into the kitchen, Seth quickly made the two of us a plate of all the options laid out on the island, before claiming two empty seats at the table. I was completely honored to be thanked in such a way, even not expecting any sort of thank you, it was a good feeling to know that what you did effected so many people.
Leaning into me, Seth put his lips to my ear, "Imagine the countertop right now..." He whispered faintly.
I felt my cheeks heat up as I laughed openly at his words and smiled as I reached for my food and took an all too eager bite of the pancake in front of me.
Finishing up my food, Seth discussed with his father the plans for the pack meeting later in the day, suggesting an earlier time and explaining his reasoning by telling them of his plans of taking me out tonight. After talking it over, Derek finally agreed, and one by one people began dismissing themselves from the kitchen, moving about their daily activities, leaving Seth and I with Hunter, Mel, Nicole, Jeremy and of course Colton.
Nicole was explaining to Jeremy how he was supposed to hold a baby before she carefully handed over Colton and watched him with soft eyes. Mel was telling Hunter about how she was certain she was having a girl and Seth and I were watching our friends with contentment.
For some reason, wanting to push buttons, Seth smiled in Nicole and Jeremy's direction, "How come I hear you didn't leave Nicole's bedroom last night Jeremy?" Seth asked softly, halting all conversation.
Jeremy smirked in his brothers direction and Nicole laughed faintly, "He didn't get any, if thats what your thinking! Not with the baby in the room!" Nicole exclaimed suddenly, "He stayed because I hadn't slept in someone's arms in a f-ing long time and after nearly dying I was in need of some comforting," She explained a bit softer than her first statement.
I bit into my bottom lip at her words and nodded understanding, but Seth just shook his head, "I know you Nicole and I sure as hell know my brother...you're saying nothing happened?" He countered, crossing his arms over his chest and looking between the two knowingly.
After a long moment, Nicole sighed, and after Jeremy nodded, she moved her hair off of her neck reveling a fresh bit mark on the side of her neck. She had let him claim her last night, I nearly felt my jaw hit the floor at the idea. Whether or not the consummated the mating mark on not, she actually let him officially mark her and for that I was surprised, yet at the same time it kinda made sense, she nearly died and if that isn't enough to make you realize how short life really can be then I don't know what could.
"It was about time, he asked for forgiveness for being a freaking idiot and although I could be angry with him for years to come, I chose not to," Nicole began, "I may not let him in my pants for a while longer, but at least our wolves are comforted knowing that they are finally tied together like they've wanted to be for years," She explained.
Seth smiled at his best friends words and nodded, giving his brother a very firm look that basically said it all without having to say anything but he chose to add to it anyways, "I know it goes without saying, but I swear if you are such an idiot and hurt Nicole in any way, you'll have to deal directly with me and Corey and I'm sure Mel as well..." He explained.
"I'm definitely in on that!" Mel jumped in, earning a soft laugh and a shake of his head from Hunter.
Jeremy nodded understanding, and gave us a simple smile, "I'm not walking out on this beauty ever again, I've got so much to catch up on and a baby to get to call me daddy," He admitted truthfully.
I couldn't help but smile at his words, we all should have seen it coming after yesterday anyways, but it was still a surprise in some way. Conversation drifted slowly from the topic and eventually onto random and unimportant things, I sat silently and listened with a faint smile on my lips, happy to be in this moment.
Later, I found myself laying in Nicole's bedroom, my hands behind my head as I stared up at her ceiling, "Ya'll really didn't do anything beside letting him claim you...isn't that backwards?" I asked innocently, turning faintly and catching Nicole's soft smile.
She shrugged, "Not really, we do have a child together, so the sex part was taken care of a while ago..." She explained, "I guess normally it is in the heat of the sex that the bond is completed, but me and Jeremy never really played by the rules anyways," She laughed at her own words.
I smiled at her words and opened my mouth to respond when Mel chose to speak up, "So he honestly just leaned in and bit you last night?" She re-asked for confirmation, both of our confusion evident in our innocent questioning.
"Well he did leaned in and kissed me first. It felt like our first kiss all over again, I had all kinds of butterflies in my stomach and his touch was burning my skin. I don't think he had any idea that I was going to ask him to mark me though," She explained, subconsciously reaching up and running her fingertips along her mark.
I nodded, "He's really trying, I can see that. I never thought I'd see the day, but he was genuinely terrified last night when he brought you in the house, I could see it over his entire face," I told her truthfully.
Nicole smiled and nodded, her eyes filling with a layer of tears, biting into her bottom lip, "I was so angry with him for so long, through my entire pregnancy I swore he'd never get to be in Colton's life, I think I held onto the anger to mask how much I've loved him since the beginning, it was easier to be angry than to hope for him to come back into the picture. It's really difficult for me to just let down my walls and let him back into my life, but last night I actually felt myself moving to the light and I saw how much love he had in his eyes for me. We were tied together to each other for a reason, that's how mates work, so why keep fighting it?" She spoke softly.
Mel and I glanced at each other before looking back at Nicole, "We understand, you don't have to explain yourself," Mel told Nicole truthfully.
Nicole smiled and wiped away the tear that slipped down her cheek. "What in the world would I do without you girls?" Nicole laughed faintly.
I smiled at her words and shrugged, knowing that the three of us had grown a whole lot closer since Nicole came into the picture. We were brought together for a reason and that reason I think we were all really grateful for.
After a few minutes of silence, a knock came on Nicole's bedroom door and when none of us seemed to climb up quickly, I pushed myself up and moved to the door, smiling at the sight of Hunter and Seth standing there with cheesy grins on their faces. Leaning into the door I couldn't pull my eyes from Seth's, "Girl time is over," Seth spoke with a smile, "Plus Nicole, Jeremy is so freaking confused at what to do right now since Colton is crying and needs a changing..." Seth smiled, obviously entertained by the situation.
Nicole laughed at Seth's words and climbed up from her spot on the bed, "I'll go save the day then, first day as a actual hands on dad and he's probably so overwhelmed..." She shook her head.
I smiled in Seth's direction before holding out my hand and letting him pull me along side himself as we moved down the stairs.
I held my free hand to my mouth to hold back my laughter as we entered the living room to find Jeremy standing there with a helpless gaze locked on Nicole as he held Colton in the air completely bare, his dirty diaper laying on the ground. "I have absolutely no idea what I am supposed to do..." He complained with soft eyes, his eyes not breaking from Nicole who had a faint smile sneaking onto her lips.
Seth openly laughed at his brother and shook his head, I on the other hand was amused to say the least, but kinda felt bad for the guy.
Shaking her head with her own amusement Nicole quickly moved towards Jeremy and slipped Colton out of his grasp, swiftly opening up fresh diaper and laying Colton on his back and wrapping him up quickly. Jeremy watched with amazement, how simple Nicole made it seem, and he couldn't seem to piece it together.
"Don't give yourself an aneurism thinking this over," Seth encouraged his brother softly, biting back his laughter.
Jeremy scowled in his brothers direction, he was obviously so new in this and no one blamed him for not knowing what he was doing, but it was still humorous.
Nicole laughed, and held onto Colton as she smiled in her mates direction, "You'll get the hang of it, just takes practice," She assured him softly.
The rest of the afternoon slipped by quickly, full of soft laughter and playful conversations between the three couples. For once it felt like everything was finally falling into place for the group of us and I couldn't help but smile at the thought.
When four o'clock came around, and bundles of laughter was shared, we quickly gathered ourselves and slipped out of the house, taking two separate cars so that me and Seth could leave directly from after the meeting. He still wasn't telling me where he was taking me, wanting it to be a surprise, but the longer I thought ideas over of where he could possibly be taking me the more I was confusing myself.
Our arrival at the meeting was the final piece and everything was quickly thrown into motion, recapping the earlier events and filling the entire pack in on the situation. It was different than the last meeting I attended, the looks I received were different, I didn't feel like people were looking down at me for being human, I couldn't fight the smile that was caused by this, Seth noticed and wrapped his arms around my waist holding me tight to his side.
"I couldn't be more proud of every one of you, you came together when we needed it most and came out with a beautiful victory." Derek spoke over the crowd, his words slowly wrapping up the meeting, before adding, "I'm sure news spread quickly, and most of you already know, but we came across the gift of a healer in our own, many of you were concerned originally about her place in this pack, but with confidence I know my son and his mate will lead with strength. She saved one of our very own on the verge of dying and I just want to be sure that each and every one of you know the strength this woman has." Derek explained, not needing to say my name to draw every set of eyes my direction. I felt my cheeks begin to heat under the eyes of every individual in the room and my nerves rising.
Seth noticed my sudden unease an cleared his throat, "Corinne is not one to gloat or praise herself, so none of you need to ambush her and showcase your gratitude, just a smile or a casual pass of conversation will do. You must not overwhelm my powerful human, this world is still new to her, these skills so unexpected that they came out of the desperate desire to save her friend. I know none of you expected to ever be led by a human by my side, but aren't we all originally human? Corinne has learned to love and accept me for both sides of me, I expect each and every one of you to do the same as she finds her feet in this." Seth addressed the crowd and pure silence fell over the small area before hands came together in a roar of clapping for a brief moment before silence came once more and everyone bowed their heads respectfully.
After moving through the crowd and talking with more people than I could keep track of, Seth finally pulled me away from everyone and led me towards his truck, leaning in and giving me a firm kiss before guiding me into the passenger seat and moving around to the other side.
Driving for a few minutes Seth pulled off onto a dirt road and moved through the trees, the lights on his truck the only guide through before he came to a stop in front of a large dirt acre. Climbing out of his seat, Seth walked around to my side and helped me out. His hand firm in mine as he pulled me away from his truck and came to a stop in front of an empty field where a medium sized box sat with a bow wrapped over the top. I looked curiously in Seth's direction and he smiled back at me, releasing my hand and beckoning towards the box.
Intrigued with the the idea of what could be inside the box, I bent down and pulled at the ribbon, un-knotting the bow before grabbing onto the top of the box and lifting it slowly as if whatever was inside would jump out at me.
Pleasantly surprised when it didn't jump out at me, I curiously looked down at a roll of blueprints. Picking them up and rolling them out, my smile began growing on my face as my mind began connecting the dots thanks to the not so subtle hint of 'HOME' written over the blueprints in bright white marker. Dropping the roll as I turned towards Seth, I threw my hands around him and pulled myself close to his body. Seth laughed at my non verbal response, "You like it?" Seth asked after a moment.
I leaned back from our embrace and nodded, "A home, for me and you, like we talked about?" I asked, wanting confirmation on the idea.
Seth smiled at my words and nodded, "Just like I promised, I mean it still has to be built, but I got the land and the plans, you just tell me yes and we get started on it," He explained with a smile.
"Looks like I've got to tell my dad I'm moving out soon..." I laughed lightly, reaching out and brushing Seth's hair from his forehead.
With a smile, Seth laughed, "How about you tell him we're getting married instead and living together comes with the deal?" He suggested, reaching into his back pocket and revealing a beautiful silver ring with a large oval cut diamond sitting on the top surrounded by smaller diamonds, "Corinne Tyson, I have loved you since the very first day that I saw you, you captured my heart and showed me what living life was supposed to look like. You made me into a person that lives every moment making sure that it's going to bring happiness to others and most importantly you. I know our bond is something that has tied us together in ways you would have never understood in your human life and that will forever keep us together, but I want some human confirmation that you are mine, and mine alone. So please, would you marry me and make me the happiest man, and wolf?" He finished, looking up at me with genuine love bleeding through his eyes.
Feeling tears form in my eyes as I looked at him, I held a hand up to my mouth surprised and nodded, not sure I could form words right away but wanting him to know. "Yes," I whispered after a moment, "Of course I'll marry you."
Seth smiled at my words and grabbed my left hand, slipping the ring perfectly onto my ring ringer before lifting my hand to his lips and kissing it softly. "You complete me, I hope you know that," He spoke faintly.
I felt my lips curl at his words, pulling into a grin stretching across my entire face. I've dreamed about this day since I was young, I saw some dark days after my mother passed and was searching for that genuine happiness that apparently Seth could only bring into my life. "Thank you for asking even though I couldn't possibly think of any other thing than marrying just you," I thanked him softly.
Without another word Seth reached out and pulled me tightly into himself, his lips finding mine, burning passion transferring between the two of us. I'm sure the thought passed through each of our minds, succumbing to our lust on that patch of dirt, but Seth must have had a rational thought and pulled us back to his truck, guiding me into the back seat before pulling clothing from my body and littering the truck with our garments.
In a strange way it felt different than other times, he'd always been just mine, but the ring on my left hand felt like human confirmation, my heart was fluttering a million miles per hour and I'm sure Seth was tuned into the sound.
It didn't take long for the two of us to explode with pleasure, our breath coming fast as we left not even a tiny space between our skin, our hands exploring each other softly our lips not breaking for more than a few seconds.
"You-" Seth let out a heavy breath, "In nothing but my ring is really turning me on," He admitted, a smile curling on his lips.
I blushed softly at his words as his lips began trailing down my neck and over my chest, my eyes watching him carefully as he glanced at my left hand, reaching out, I touched the side of his face softly. "I've had enough car sex for one day..." I whispered softly, my butt aching from the seat belt digging into it.
Seth laughed at my confession and started handing my pieces of my clothing. As we both awkwardly dressed in our limited space, we stole kisses from each other. "I have men laying the foundation tomorrow morning, from there it should take a few months for the house to get built, I cannot wait to christen each room in our home," Seth spoke softly, leaning in and giving my mark a firm kiss.
Laughing at his words, I smiled, "You are very eager this evening, I haven't heard you talk like this in some time, are you sure I'm not starting another heat or something?" I wanted to confirm.
Seth laughed, "Not this soon after the last darling, don't you worry, just with everything going on it is nice to hold my beautiful mate who just agreed to marry me, you have no idea what goes through my head on the daily about you," He cheekily smiled my direction.
I returned his smile, and as we crawled into the front seat of his truck I knew there really wasn't going to be much sleeping tonight.
