The phone rang and I stared at it for a few seconds. It was times like these I wish my house phone had called I.D. But we barely used the house phone so it didn't matter. I reached my hand out and picked it up, hesitating slightly before hitting the talk button. "Hello?" I said wearily.
"Maddie!"
I hit the end button and placed down the phone. I know I was being unfair, and I knew I should at least hear Damian out, but I just didn't feel like it at the moment. I sighed and flopped onto my bed. Bad things always happened on rainy days. And it had been raining since that day.
I had already forgiven Damian, even if he had kissed her. There was no way I could be angry with him. That girl Jacky probably couldn't resist his good looks, or had some secret obsession with him. I trusted Damian, and that was all I needed to forgive him. But still.
The phone rang again and I picked it up, clicking the end button without even saying hello. How many times was he going to call? I looked out my window towards his house.
I still wanted a little time to myself.
He had tried coming over a few times, but I didn't answer the door. Luckily he wasn't rude enough to enter without permission. I sighed again and watched the raindrops on the window race down.
I should hear him out. I know I should, but what if it really was as I thought it was? I clenched my fist. There was no way. But I was still afraid of the truth.
Suddenly my door burst open and I shrieked at the dark figure standing in the entrance. I sat up, hopping to my feet, getting into a fighting position as the figure flipped on the light.
"Oh, it's only you," I muttered, relaxing my pose.
"That's some greeting," Ayden responded, frowning at me.
"What do you want?"
"I'm here to get you."
"For what?" I asked warily. "I'm not going to talk to Damian on the phone. There's nothing you can do to force me to either."
"I know," Ayden responded, grinning. "I came here to take you to him."
"I won't," I told him automatically.
"By force," he added with a wink.
I backed away slowly from him as he came closer. He grinned again, showing his fangs.
"Do you think you can get away from me?"
He lunged and I threw myself to the side, avoiding him.
"Leave me alone!" I screamed running for the door.
"Nope!"
Before I even reached the handle I felt his arms wrap around me. I struggled fruitlessly against him for a few seconds before realizing it was useless.
"I'm not going," I stated stubbornly, huffing.
"I'll carry you there," Ayden offered smiling.
"You will not!" I told him, and brought my fist back to punch him.
"I wouldn't-"
I punched him on the shoulder, only to hurt my own fist. "Ow, ow!"
"I tried to warn you," Ayden replied while half smiling. "Besides you're so light even with your resistance I can just pick you up and put you over my shoulder."
"At least I don't weigh two hundred and fifty pounds!"
"That may be true," Ayden agreed gripping my shoulders, "but it is a very mean thing to say about Damian!"
"I was talking about you, you imbecile!" I retorted, trying to get out of his grasp.
"Sure you were."
"I was!"
"Either way, neither of us weigh that much," he stated as he threw me over his shoulder.
"Don't do this!" I cried, pleading with him. "I don't want to see him!
"It wasn't his fault!"
"I know!" I responded, clinging to Ayden's back as he carried me down the stairs. "But I really don't want to see him right now."
"Please, Maddie. He's been all depressed for three days now. That girl left, just let him explain. There's a party tonight, and I want him to be in the mood," Ayden begged.
I scowled at the wall as he carried me to the door. "You're having a party? I can walk now."
"Yes, and I'll just carry you to make sure you don't run away," Ayden said as he locked my front door behind me. "Where's Will?"
"Business trip," I responded with a sigh.
So now I had no choice but to talk to Damian. I know I was going to forgive him right away, but still... I was still afraid of the truth. And it hurt that he would actually kiss someone else. He said he loved me.
"He does love you," Ayden told me and I scowled.
"Stop reading my thoughts."
"I don't have a choice," Ayden responded shrugging. "But you know, that woman, Jacky?"
"The vampire kissing Damian?"
Ayden chuckled. "That's the one. I'll tell you know I promise you that she and Damian have no History together. Close your eyes."
"Why?"
"I'm running."
And without a moments warning, he took off. I gasped and clung onto his jacket as wind whipped in my eyes, making them tear up. I squinted trying to see the forest that was moving by at an alarming rate. In about five seconds we were on Ayden's porch. He sat me down and I crossed my arms.
"I never realized you could run so fast," I commented, looking back at my house.
"Well now you know. Now, in, in," he said, ushering me into the house.
"Maddie!"
I turned to see Damian looking slightly shocked. I smiled hesitantly at him. He hurried over to me, wrapping me in his arms. I hesitated before returning the hug.
"We need to talk," he told me, pulling away and grabbing my hand.
"Yeah," I agreed, nodding.
He pulled me along up the stairs and to his room. I took a seat on the couch and he shut the door. There was silence for a few moments. Damian came over and sat next to me on the couch.
"Maddie, I'm sorry," he started, grabbing my hand again. "I promise you that I did not kiss her. She came at me."
"And you couldn't push her away? You're a vampire," I returned, sounding meaner than I had meant to.
"She's a vampire too," Damian replied softly, playing with my hair. "Let me explain."
"Go ahead," I told him, very aware of his hand playing with my hair, and his body only inches away from mine.
"She came into my room only moments before you arrived, I swear. I always knew she had a thing for me, but I didn't expect her to do anything. So I was surprised when she suddenly came at me. And then not even two seconds later you opened the door."
I stared at him with my lips pursed. That's what I had guessed he was going to say. But would Damian lie to me? Lying was the worse thing...
I felt my heart drop into my stomach. I was a hypocrite. I was lying to Damian right now about Reilly. How could I be angry with him for kissing- well being kissed, I guess, by another person while I was lying to him? But I had a good reason... right?
"Maddie?"
"You're telling my the complete truth?" I questioned him.
"I would never lie to you," Damian stated boldly, his eyes blazing.
Guiltiness sank in and I wanted to cry. I was lying to him. I didn't want to, but I didn't want Dustin to be hurt. But after what he just said, how could I?
"Do you forgive me?"
I stared at him. I believed him, I did. And I had already forgiven him. I needed to tell him the truth too.
"Please?" he whispered, tilting my chin.
I took the initiative and pressed my lips against his for a second, and pulled away, blushing. "Yeah, I forgive you. But listen-"
"Thank god," Damian sighed, resting his hand against my cheek. "I love you, Maddie." He leaned in and pressed his lips against mine and didn't hesitate in deepening it. "I'm sorry you had to witness that," he apologized pulling a way for a second.
"It's okay, Damian," I told him, cuddling against his chest. I couldn't be angry with him, even if he was the one who kissed her. Which I knew he wasn't, I trust Damian. But it would be unjust of me since I was lying to him. "Damian I need to tell you something."
"But we should get ready for the party," Damian mused, seeming to not have heard me. "I'm sorry Maddie, but would you help?"
I sighed. "Yeah, but-"
"Will you cook some food? It's been over fifty years since I've cooked... and we are having humans over so-"
"What kind of party is this?" I questioned, raising my eyebrow.
Damian stared at me curiously. "Just a get together with people from school. You know, a normal teenage party."
"Why?"
Damian, for the first time ever, looked embarrassed. "Well... I thought you wouldn't forgive me so I thought this would help..."
I stared at him for a second before I started to laugh. "How did you think this would help?"
Damian pursed his lips. "I thought that if I did an apology in front of everyone you wouldn't not forgive me."
I raised an eyebrow. "That's dirty."
Damian smiled. "But you would have forgiven me, right?"
"Of course," I responded, rolling my eyes.
"Then there you go," Damian said, shrugging. "It may have been dirty, but I really didn't want you to be mad at me Maddie."
I smiled at him. "I love you Damian."
He chuckled and kissed me on the forehead. "I love you too Maddie. Now, let's get ready for this party."
