So.....it gets a little intense, a little heated. Hope you enjoy my lovelies!

I've been thinking about it, and Knox (Jason Griffin that is) is going to be the first with a side story. Just a tiny story that explains his past and how he met up with the gang. And after that, as inspiration hits me, I'll write the others!

Now, y'all get to meet the mysterious and not so mentioned Reese, Xavier's cute little boyfriend!

 Sagan

Two or so weeks passed and I got to see Ryan hang out with his friends. They were an eclectic lot and I spent most of my time just watching. Of course they welcomed me among their ranks, but there was always this edge about them. It took me a while to place my finger on it, and once I did, I was quick to put a stop to it.

I figured it out when they had been talking about an upcoming Fight Night at one of the local gyms that sponsored them, if only because it was fairly good publicity for them. Controlled and disciplined fighting that helped out local troubled kids. I mentioned fighting and they all had shared a look. That look had confirmed the belief that they hadn’t fully accepted me because they hadn’t seen me fight.

It was a strange and old fashioned concept, but after seeing them together, it seemed normal and expected of everyone.

At the moment, that’s what Xavier and Ryan were arguing about.

“Ryan, we can’t just invite people willy-nilly. We have this argument every time. We’re for fair sport, not inviting punching bags.” Xavier slammed his hand on the table, anger making his green eyes flash. I was eating lunch and just looked up at him, having gotten used to his penchant for being there when I woke up. I had figured out a while ago what Ryan hadn’t. Xavier and Nyall knew how to pick locks. The other guys were in the process of learning, but hadn’t gotten the hang of it yet. I just hadn’t gotten around to telling him. If he couldn’t figure it out then, I decided, I wasn’t going to hand the information to him.

“Come on Xavier! Everyone deserves a chance. They’ve been begging for months to be allowed to fight. We have the usual weight divisions. It’s not like they’re going to be facing us or even Ash for that matter.”

Not being able to keep quiet while they were talking about this, I had to put my two cents in, “Think of it this way, y’all are running the Fight Night right? Just let them register. There are refs and y’all know some paramedics. Find a few off duty or something and ask them if they’d being willing to overlook it. This way, you can gain more recognition in a good light. Not a bunch of thugs coming to beat the hell out of each other. And afterwards, you can just tell them what to work on to get better. If you never allow them to fight, they’ll never learn.”

Xavier raised his eyebrows at my softly spoken spiel. Then reluctantly, he said, “Fine, they can come. Damn Ryan, how do you win anything with this guy?”

Ryan’s laughter bounded around the kitchen, “Verbally I don’t, if it were physical, I’d hand his a$$ to him.”

“Because you’re a brick powerhouse Ryan, no other reason, and besides I think we’d be in two different weight divisions. Am I invited to fight this time?”

Ryan’s answer had me standing up in a heartbeat, my earlier calm evaporating at the dictate, “No and that’s final.”

“Ryan I wasn’t asking permission. I’m not your child, I’m your boyfriend.”

Xavier sat down at the island and looked like he wished he had some popcorn. My hands fisted as I stared at Ryan’s unyielding eyes.

“You’re not ready. You’re not fighting Sagan, even if that means I have to chain you to a chair before I leave.” Ryan’s brown eyes hardened then he turned to Xavier, effectively dismissing my arguments. Of course that set my temper through the roof.

“When was the last time we actually trained Ryan? Hmm? Were you ever going to allow me to fight? Because if you’re expecting to “allow” me to fight after I beat you, I can guarantee you won’t like my response to that.”

Ryan’s head slowly turned to me, his eyes still hard. But I got the sense I had nailed it on the head with him.

“You were never going to allow me to fight were you?! You introduce me to it and then you basically tell me you’ll never allow me to do anything with it?” I took his stretching silence as a confirmation.

Walking around the island, I got right in his face and said with deadly calm, “Hear me now Ryan Jackson, you have no control over me and what I do with my life. Do not think you will ever have that right or we will never last. Now, I will respect your wishes and not fight at the upcoming one, but I’m fighting at the next Fight Night with or without your approval and that is final. Do you understand?”

He scowled at me and didn’t respond.

“Ryan, do you understand?” My patience with him was wearing very thin.

He eventually nodded. Giving him a forced smile, I kissed his forehead. “That wasn’t so hard, now was it?”

Leaving the kitchen still fuming, I missed Ryan’s stunned face and Xavier’s look of bewilderment.

Ryan

"I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything speak to you like that, Ryan, I really don’t.”

“I think my father has, but never anyone else.”

“Okay, my respect for that little dude has just been ramped up.” Xavier turned to look at me and I scrubbed my face with my hand.

Sagan was right though. I truly hadn’t thought about letting him fight, at all. And of course I thought he’d meekly accept that I didn’t want him to fight. Even though we’d been together for roughly two months or so, I still hadn’t quite gotten into my head that Sagan wasn’t like most of my exes who backed down to avoid fighting with me. Of course I had to go fall for the one man that was guaranteed to give me a headache.

Yet, all the while, I was pulsing hard and his anger only served to feed my arousal. His cheeks had flushed and his eyes had darkened with his fury. It was everything I could do to keep my hands off of him with Xavier standing right there. Anger and desire were easily interchanged, the two emotions easily feeding off of each other as they pounded through your blood, heightening all of your senses.

“Man, he’s giving you the same run around that I experienced with Reese. If it makes you feel better, he’s been giving me hell about fighting too. I can’t keep putting it off with him either. They’re in the same weight division. We can invite them to train with all of the guys. Going against each of us, as we’re all in different divisions, would be good for them. We can all have a say in their training then. And Master Smith would love the new students.”

Thumping my forehead on the table, I reluctantly agreed with Xavier. He had a point. A very valid point. One I couldn’t dispute.

There was the sound of a door opening and a thud. Male curses followed. Xavier and I got up and walked over to see the front door only to find both Sagan and Reese having a very strange conversation.

I think.

Sagan

“You’d think I could walk into a man’s home without being cast to the ground like I’m some street urchin within moments of crossing the threshold. Don’t even get me started on the fact that my poor head shall being throbbing for hours.”

I stared in bewilderment at a man that stood about 5’ 8”, give or take an inch as he muttered to himself. As he stood up, I couldn’t help but ask, “Um, who are you?”

“Who am I? Who am I? Why I am the very man you shall cower before! Arm yourself against everything, you vile, low-lying sniveling yokel! Xavier!” The man pointed his finger straight in the air, his face contorted in righteous anger, brown eyes firing with anger. I didn’t know whether or not to take him seriously.

“I think you’re mistaken man.” I had no idea how to respond to him.

“Yes?” Xavier’s calm response to the man fuming before me had me smiling.

“Xavier! Tell him I shall cast his very soul to the depths of he!! if he continues smirking at me like that! The scoundrel, the scallywag! No more shall I stand for it!”

Rubbing the back of my neck, I tried even harder not to smile, “Then sit for it.”

“The nerve! Xavier!” This guy was either messing around or completely off his rocker.

Xavier confirmed my suspicion though, “Okay Reese, enough with the theatrics. I don’t think Sagan’s overly impressed with it.”

Liking flipping a switch, he straightened his clothing, smiled and said, “Nice to meet you Sagan, I’m Reese Winters. I’ve heard so much about you. Xavier’s been telling me all about how you and Ryan fell for each other hook, line and sinker.”

Laughing, I bumped fists with him in greeting, replying, “Maybe not hook, line and sinker, but I do love the man, despite his flaws.”

“Hey, I am standing right here,” Ryan’s tone sounding slightly put out.

Glancing at Ryan, I felt my anger dissipate. “I know, but it makes it more fun when it seems like you’re not.”

Turning back to the odd little man before me watching as he turned to shut the door behind him, I rubbed the back of my neck. “So you’re Reese, the elusive boyfriend of Xavier?”

“The one and only, at your service,” he said with a wink. Looking him over, I noticed he was most unremarkable, especially compared to Ryan’s friends. With short brown hair, expressive brown eyes and a ready smile, he was like the polar opposite to the guys I’d been hanging around. His personality more than made up for it though.

I was almost grateful for it if he was to hang out with us more often.

“You’re an odd one aren’t you?” I couldn’t help but ask as Reese went around me, bee lining for Xavier.

“I try to keep people on their toes. You learn who people really are when they’re confronted with bizarre situations and bizarre people,” He gave a bland smile, already focusing on his own man.

     “True.”

Facing Ryan, I said, “Be thankful that I’m not like that. You’d really have your hands full.”

“I agree,” Ryan’s eyes darkened, “But if you were, I sure things would be…much more interesting.”

Flushing with the innuendo, I turned to Reese, “So how did you and Xavier meet?”

Xavier cracked up and Reese flushed.

Whatever the story was, it was a good one.
